If a special evening of dining is in your plans, look no further than Kimball’s Kitchen, formerly the Left Bank. Located on the Soundside of the Sanderling Resort, Kimball’s offers glorious view of the Currituck Sound and its inspiring sunsets, outstanding service and a world class menu. Kimball’s Kitchen offers everything that is special about both the Sanderling and the Outer Banks.

Spotlighting local, grass-fed prime steaks, freshly caught local seafood, and an extensive raw bar selection, the restaurant creates a great dining experience with an upscale coastally casual environment. Of particular note are the numerous varieties of local oysters and the classic seafood tower, with a daily changing list of locally caught fish and seafood. Daily pasta and risotto specials are accompanied by an extensive Wine Spectator wine and champagne list. Children are welcome and are served smaller portions of the standard menu with a 50% price break.

  • "I really liked the vibe and the service at this restaurant. The decor is cool and modern, and the wine list had remarkable prices on first growth wines. The food was forgettable, but the overall experience was fantastic. I had the oysters on the half shell and they tasted super fresh. They were served with what tasted like a straight quality vinegar and diced cucumber. Would have liked a lovely mignonette. My wife had the duck, and didn't eat much of it. My daughter had the Mahi Mahi and didnt finish it, but I had the lobster ravioli, and they were amazing. My wife started with the grilled romaine, and they did it the way you want it to be done, one of the best I have ever had."

  • "This was our second visit to Kimball's Kitchen - we had gone as a couple and now went as a group. Coincidentally had the same server as last year (who was great). This is our favorite restaurant on the outer banks and definitely has the best steaks on the OBX. The only caveat we have is that it's a little bit on the loud side, which doesn't come into play much for a couple but at a larger table made it hard to hear all the way across."

If you came here to vacation and get good steaks from where you live the steak here is nothing special. Great bartender, solid wine list, raw ahi appetizer is awesome and memorable...loved the grilled romaine salad...diver scallops and crab cake were also solid dishes...if you are staying around the Sanderling, also try the more casual Lifesaving station...great food and a diverse menu."

  • "Our family has been vacationing at the Outer Banks for a while. We have been to this place when it was the Left Bank. The food is extraordinary. It was nice to see the open kitchen. We were seated at a table by the sound side and could see the sunset. Our server, Nicole was exceptional. She gave us great recommendations with the menu. I would definitely return. Try the blueberry rain martini."

  • "I was very disappointed, after seeing Kimball's high ratings on Trip Advisor. I'm sure the steaks are wonderful, and seafood we ordered was properly cooked, but the menu is like many mediocre restaurants where you have a choice of protein and then pick a sauce (beurre blanc, hollandaise, peppercorn, etc.) There isn't an iota of imagination or creativity in this food, and the menu reads like one from the 50's: steak, potatoes, cheesecake. There no key lime pie, or anything remotely mindful of its southern setting. If this is what Kimball's patrons like, they have a right to it. But if you're a foodie looking for creative and delicious, don't spend your $$ at Kimball's. It's not worth it. But hey, the view is gorgeous!"

  • "Kimball's has a beautiful view of the sunset, perfect ambiance, just right menu and great wine selection. We chose this location for our one special night out and now we go every time we are in the Duck area. The food is always perfect and the entire setting allows for a relaxing evening. We recommend taking your time. Arrive a little early to sit at the bar before your meal and enjoy a few cocktails (they are amazing). Definitely do apps (pork belly slider or small lobster ravioli were awesome). Have a great meal and be sure to do a desert (even if you can barely squeeze it in) and of course wine with all of your courses! Disclaimer: tab can be big but I am sure you could also do a reasonable meal here too if you skipped the drinks."

  • "Kimball's Kitchen was a wonderful experience. Our server, Billy, and the manager/sommelier, Matt, made for a fantastic evening. My wife and I both had steaks, she the filet, me the NY Strip. Both were cooked perfectly to our liking and the bacon/vidalia onion "steak sauce" was outstanding. I wanted a wine-by-the-glass and Matt brought me 3 tastings to try. We also loved the chocolate/mocha creme brulee to finish things off. Overall, fully a great experience with a wonderful dinner. Highly recommend for a nice night out in the OBX."

  • "Kimball's Kitchen is in a lovely setting overlooking the Currituck Sound. It is part of the Sanderling Resort. The dining room is a beautiful, graceful curve that follows the shoreline. The views of the sound via the floor-to-ceiling windows are excellent. Every table has a view, and the tables that are back from the window are staggered so that you do not have to stare at other diners while gazing out at the sunset. The food was very good, but not outstanding. My fish dish was excellently prepared. I chose to have it served on a bed of local greens and veggies. The amount of baby lettuce was a bit off-putting, though it did taste good and was delightfully fresh. Skip the hand-cut pasta dish. Sticky, bland and way over-priced."

Our dinner was very nice, excellent by Outer Banks standards. It's really nice to being able to eat at a waterfront restaurant that is not overcrowded and noisy. We will definitely go there again on our next visit to The Sanderling."

  • "Second time dining at this restaurant since it reinvented itself. I am local to the area so have lots of alternatives and comparisons and Kimball's would not survive without one-time tourist traffic from the Sanderling Inn and the sound view. Wanted to give it another shot after a mixed experience a year ago, but this will be our last visit. Waited a half hour for our confirmed table, the dining room was smoke filled from faulty exhaust from the kitchen, front door was open so mosquitos were biting. The staff is very nice and friendly, the food is ok, but really overpriced. I had their special for the evening, the grouper, and even with a sauce, very dry. We dine out a lot and price is never a factor, but this is just not worth it."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Kimball's Kitchen on July 1 and weren't disappointed. The restaurant is part of Sanderling Resort and Spa. Extensive selection of seafood raw oysters from several different sources including Virginia, locally caught fish with a choice of several sauces (we had Mahi with coconut curry sauce) and outstanding crab cakes. Salads include a grilled romaine and a wedge salad with a light housemade dressing and blue cheese and pork belly. Dessert was a bread pudding with we both shared after a very filling dinner. Will definitely make this a part of our next OBX vacation."

We went several times when it was called the Left Bank, but returned this year to try it and we fell in love with it. Keep in mind it is not inexpensive, but so worth the experience if you want an elegant, refined, and delicious experience on the outer banks!"

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary in Kimball's. My husband ordered a wodka martini for cocktails, this was one of the best ones he ever tasted. After that we had a very good bottle of Sancerre, the wine list is excellent. For starters, we had oysters followed by the daily fish entree and beef tenderloin. The food was delicious, well cooked, served beautifully. For Europeans the portions are rather big, however, as the food was so nice we almost finished everything! The view of the bay was fabulous ! We will definately go back to the Sanderling resort and Kimball's."

  • "My wife and I were mildly apprehensive on this first visit to Kimball's - we had been several times in its previous incarnation as "The Left Bank." We ended up very happy. The service was still excellent, the food very good, the wine list exceptional, and the view of the Sound still terrific. My wife's shellfish entre was very good, my lamb was good (it's not a steak place), and desert was wonderful. The waiter was personable and smart about answering questions and asking the right ones to make sure we had a good experience. We go to Duck once a year, and will visit Kimball's again."
