SO delicious! Portions are huge. Staff was very polite. Food came a bit slow but it was because they cooked it well.

  • This was not my first time

This was not my first time at the restaurant so I already knew what to expect. The restaurant is in what on first glance may look like a dubious location, a sort of tiny strip mall in West Philly, but it is worth it. They sell West African food at very reasonable prices (tax included) with large portions. As a West African myself I can attest to the authenticity of the food, and they have dishes at a variety of spice levels to satisfy a more Western palate. Last time I had the lamb dibi which was great and enough food for 2 dinners. This time I had the yassa fish which was a whole fish (head optional) and was DELICIOUS. I've never had yassa sauce so I have no comparison but this was REALLY good. The plantains were standard but still good.

  • Interesting enough for a dive

Interesting enough for a dive place in a strip center. Many of the people there were pretty raucous, but it was a Saturday night. 2 of us got chicken which was really good; 2 got lamb which was kind of tough & gristly. The sauces were remarkable, as were the fried plantains and the "beef patties" (which were actually like empanadas). Also, portions are huge--great place for sharing. We'll go back, but it's not a special occaision kind of place.

  • This is a BYO that serves

This is a BYO that serves African food. We went at lunchtime, but could order from the dinner menu as well, which my husband took advantage of. He ordered lamb shanks, which were wonderful- two big, tender shanks, and a generous side of yummy red rice. We started with a delicious side of plantains with a dipping sauce. I got shrimp yassa with a side of casava. The sauce was so good, and buried in the stew were more and more shrimp. Yassa with chicken was also delicious. Our server was very friendly and helpful, describing the menu items well. I can't wait to return and try more dishes.

  • LOVELY AFRICAN DINNER!

Kilimandjaro is the place to go if you miss African home cooking and even more if you want to know what good cooking is on the African continent. For groups of 10 or more, I suggest to go for the generous sampler fixed price. However, if I pick just for myself, I recommend - between so many great dishes - the fish yassa. Mrs. Bâ, and the lovely Combisse will serve your food accompanied with their happiness aura. Well, there is much more to praise about this lovely spot, therefore just try it! Mrs. Bâ, send me your fax or e-mail so that I send you pictures of our last dinner at your restaurant. Merci ! Patricia from "A l'Ecole Française"

six of us went for the buffet (tasting menu) and it was fantastic, from the pitcher of ginger “juice” and fried plantain to the rice and chicken dishes. great seasonings and flavors. the lamb (seemed like beef) was tough and the dessert was not very interesting, but otherwise everything was incredible. the buffet was only $18pp. recommended for a taste of west africa.
