Kilauea Lodge and Restaurantloved it so much we went backHaving enjoyed far too much, we were to full for dessert when our server came around with the tray. We managed to make it back the next evening for a couple of their lilikoi margaritas and a fabulous cheesecake. Couldn't have been happier.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved itWe had picked this restaurant for supper one night during our stay in Volcano. We weren't sure what to expect from what we found online but when we arrived and throughout the whole meal we were impressed with the setting, service and the food that we got. While a bit more than we would usually spend for a dinner out it was worth every penny. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and always on hand. The food itself was served quickly, hot off the grill and cooked to perfection. Overall both of us were extremely happy with our experience and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Volcano.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat PlaceWe always come here to eat while on The Big Island. It is the best to eat within miles of Volcanoes National Park. Prices, for Hawaii, are reasonable.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding mealWe stayed in Hilo for 3 months, and ate at a great variety of restaurants -- many quite good. But Kilauea Lodge was best by far. The menu is varied, and differs slightly every day. We ate three meals there, and each one stood out. I had never had duck l'orange, and I don't know if I will order it again unless we come back here -- as I don't know how it could have been done any better. The bonus is the location by the volcano and national park. After dinner, a 15 minute drive took us to an overlook where we watched the smoke from the active caldera glow orange at dusk from the lava below.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA traveler's gem near a Volcano! The reason we visited this restaurant was the proximity to Volcano National Park.
What we experienced, was so much more.
The food choices were amazing and the entrees delivered did not disappoint.
The Hunter's Soup was lacking of meat, mostly herbs, but the entree made up for it.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed the AntelopeReally enjoyed the Antelope Schnitzel along with the Hunting Cabin Ambience.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, reasonableFood was great, reasonable prices for fine dining:) excellent for romantic occasions!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly and attentive serviceFriendly and attentive service and outstanding food. A little pricey for Volcano, but still worthy of a strong recommendation.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place, did have someNice place, did have some bad luck with the food but the service and offer to fix it was great. Nice treat after a day hiking the Volcano.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been returning to TheWe've been returning to The Kilauea Lodge for 20+ years and are never disappointed. The soups are the best anywhere and the attention to details is amazing.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb food at a great price!!!Superb food at a great price!!! They sing well too!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful but in need of an UpgradeThe restaurant was very lovely. The food was tasty. The selection was wonderful. The service was very good. The staff was knowledgeable. I really liked how they were on top of it when it came to refilling my water glass. I didn't have to ask and that's important to me. The furniture and decor seemed "old" and "dated". If it were my restaurant I would re-do the interior with things more native to that part of the island and freshen things up. Maybe get a new couch (the one located next to the fireplace), re-upholster the chairs, get solid colored cloth place mats, etc...small kind things. They could use nicer uniforms too. It was more of fine dining and the uniforms didn't seem to go with it. Too busy maybe?! Overall, I would go again :)3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI was here 20 years ago andI was here 20 years ago and I don't think the dining room has changed since then. Same chef too. This is a wonderful, warm place to stay with a fabulous fresh menu every day. My husband had the duck which he ate almost every day we were on the Big Island and pronounced it fine (he's VERY hard to please), and I had antelope--rare, mild and delicious. Vegetables are fresh and al dente, and slice of au gratin potato just right. I also had the beet salad (plenty for two) and no dessert--we were too full of our dinner! I highly recommend this place for meals. The chef is adventurous AND discriminating.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMCasual (it's the islands...)Casual (it's the islands...) but thoroughly professional. Interesting spin on fusion with its German leitmotif...My wife really enjoyed her antelope and I thought the vegetarian options were satisfactory. Perfect location for a nice meal after hiking Volcano NP and then going back to Kiluea to see the lava glow after dark.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMYou only come here becauseYou only come here because it is one of only two decent options in town. But it will not let you down, so long as you are not expecting a gourmet experience.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a special birthdayWe had a special birthday meal here while visiting Volcanoes National Park and it was a lovely dinner. The menu listed our birthdays, there were balloons at our table, and everyone from the hostess, to our terrific server (Susie) and the person who cleared our plates congratulated us on our special occasion. The menu is eclectic and the dishes are tasty; soups are well done and portion size is generous. Try the stuffed mushroom appetizer, roast duck if it's available and enjoy warm breads. Dessert is generous - feel free to share but do leave room for a sweet ending.12/3/2012 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely loved this. OffAbsolutely loved this.
