A word from Khyber Grill: Frontier Indian Cuisine
Frontier Indian Cuisine. In a world divided between those who prefer the traditional Indian outpost and those who look beyond the traditional, Khyber Grill is recreating the robust richness of cuisine from the North-West Frontiers of India with a modern day twist. From the North-West Frontiers of India to the heart of New Jersey, Khyber Grill welcomes you with a rustic yet highly sophisticated interior, decorated with hand cut bamboo. The restaurant comes with traditional Indian décor, modern artifacts, and hand-woven Persian carpets elegantly draped from the ceilings. Khyber Grill embraces the traditional concept of India, by providing hand hammered utensils, custom jail-cut plates, and traditional tableware. The servers wear the traditional Patiala pants accompanied with authentic loose-fitting Kurtas. We look forward to having you as our guest at our restaurant, where we promise to take you on a culinary journey through India.

  • Service was good, but food

Service was good, but food was just OK, and very oily. Each dish was quite expensive, and portions were very small. I had made an online reservation and showed up on time, but the proprietor made a big deal that we did not reconfirm our reservation! There were a lot of empty tables. We will probably not go back.

Table was not ready when we arrived (on time) Waited over 20 minutes in a drafty vestibule. Service could be better. Wait staff does not have the appropriate training and instead of writing the order down repeated our entire order and he got wrong every time. The process took over 10 minutes. I do not understand why they can't write down the order and call it a day.

Nice spice to the food. Unfortunately, they forgot our app and then gave us chicken instead of goat for one of our meals. We ate it all the same. And while it was good, it was not great.

  • Average run of the mill restaurant
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

Food was below average. I ordered Palak ke kofta and Paneer dilruba and both had essentially the same curry taste, no difference except for the color and curry was a little on the sour side. It seemed like a mass produced sauce for all the entrees. Service was good, waitress did ask us a few times about the food and was prompt. They filled water in empty glasses right away and came back frequently to do that.Service was above average for an indian joint. Ambiance was okay but the place was too crowded. Tables were too small to fit a basket of naan and two entrees with rice. Too many tables on the floor for a smaller space. Noise is high, kids crowded the place on valentines evening when restaunt advertises romantic evening dinner.

  • Friday Night Out

I and my husband went there for our usual Friday night out. The ambiance was ok for an Indian cuisine place. The food was good and tasty but prices are too high for the quantity. We ordered a mixed grill which was for $20 but quantity wasnt even good for one person.Worst was the serveware was ordinary Corelle dinner set which we normally use at home. They need to get better serveware because its all about experience when people dine out. Will recommend this place for food but not for ambiance and the dining experience.

Enjoyed a family dinner here. Food and service were excellent. It has been a while that we ate at an Indian restaurant that we liked. This place is new and I hope they maintain their quality consistently. Don't forget to try their house special Pan Masala ice-cream.. Great Place !!

This is my third review of Khyber Grill in about as many weeks: we are "regulars" here, and will be eating here a couple times a month for the foreseeable future. Since the prior reviewer took issue with charges for soda, I thought I would speak to the beverages at Khyber. I always drink water. The refills are rapid, and water cools my palate and does not compete with the complex flavors. I don't know that I've seen anyone with soda-I don't think it's about hidden charges--I just don't think there is a demand. My wife LOVES a mango lassi and a masala chai post-dinner. As if this place were not enough of a find, Khyber is also BYOB. As soon as my daughter is born, my wife and I will begin the search for the perfect wine to balance the spice.

  • Blown Away!

We were out of towners looking to accommodate an Indian business associate by dining at a place that had a veg menu. The Khyber Grill's menu looked perfect. Over the past two years, we as a group, have traveled a lot in India. But this meal was one of the best (if not the best) Indian dinners we have enjoyed together. The veg dishes blew us away as my Indian friend commented, it brought back memories of home. We do not live in New Jersey, but we travel there for business 3 times a year. We know where we will all go for dinner when we are together again. The meat dishes were great too and the dessert was inventive. The pann ice cream was an original for us. The great food was equaled by staff and owners making us feel very welcomed.

  • Good food marred by sub-par service

Excellent food marred by sub-par service and unreasonable prices. The lunch buffet seems cheap at first glance but there are so many hidden costs and nothing is gratis. My wife and I chose the a la carte menu instead of the buffet and sat there twiddling our thumbs waiting for the food. The main courses do not come with any sides at all and three eight ounce glasses of soda cost me nine dollars. It's evident that the restaurant management is trying to squeeze out any penny they can. The food, however, was very good and I'd go back there and pay the exorbitant prices just for the food itself. We had some chicken kebabs and a lamb dish and both of them had a variety of nuanced flavors and textures. Props to the cook.

  • Lunch buffet does not disappoint

We returned to Khyber Grill, this time for the lunch buffet. Although I have been a little intimidated with branching out in Indian cuisine (I ALWAYS order chicken tikka masala at Indian restaurants), I was very pleasantly surprised by the lunch buffet. My wife was overjoyed. There are about ten to twelve selections, a few more than half (including rice) are vegetarian, and there were four or five meat options, some desserts, and some cold appetizers. The maitre d' welcomed us back by name, and was genuinely happy to see us and even made us a basket of garlic naan. The value at the buffet is tremendous, and I strongly recommend it as a great introduction to this gem of a restaurant.

  • Best Indian food around!

I found Khyber Grill somewhat by accident, but have been counting my blessings since that day. The restaurant is family owned and operated, and the family makes every effort to make you feel welcome. My wife and I asked for explanations of some unfamiliar dishes and then requested recommendations. My wife is a vegetarian, and I am a committed carnivore, and this place hit a perfect note with both of us. The ambiance surprised us, given our experience with Indian restaurants in this area (where decor is often sacrificed for great food). Prices are reasonable, certainly fair if not cheap. The garlic naan is the best we've ever had--but if you've got a group, try the bread basket which comes with three different varieties of your choice.
