  • "I just love this place. I first visited in September and my most recent visit was on 4/12/14. Somehow, I enjoyed it even more this time around. We had: nam khao, the laap dip, laap pa, thum mak houng, sien-haeng, sai ua moo, and the notorious pig face. I could go on for days but I'll just say that everything was great. My favorites were the laap dip and the pig face. Least favorite was probably the nam khao, only because it was a tad too sweet. The condiments and sauces that accompanied the dishes really elevated everything. If you're adventurous, ask for the pa-dak (fermented fish sauce). Also, the magnum bottle of Rose we ordered was great for washing down all the spicy food. Plus, it was $65 for 1.5L lol."

  • "The food in Khe-yo is very unique and delicious. We tried the steak tartar with bone marrow, quail, and the Branzino, and the beef jerky. Everything was fantastic. Service was very good as well."

  • "Coconut rice balls were delicious. Hot sauce that comes with the steamed rice was very spicy - and that's a good thing! Grilled branzino was cooked perfectly. Be prepared to eat with your hands as several dishes come with lettuce or rice paper wraps. Crowd was late 20s/early 30s on a Friday night. Going back again soon!"

  • "The food at Khe-yo is different to say the least. Noting the limited menu online, I was hoping there would be a bunch of specials upon my arrival. Unfortunately, all the specials were pork based (consistent with most of the menu), which me or my family do not eat. However, even with our limited options everyone enjoyed the uniqueness and taste of each thing we ordered. I reccomend the beef jerky and squash salad."

  • "My friends and I enjoyed some of the most delicious fish and pork dishes. Unfortunately, we could not have a conversation because of the noise level. It didn't help that the restaurant kept increasing the volume of the music. It ruined our dining experience."

  • "busboy(?) kind of plopped food down w/o an explanation - normally not an issue but just about every dish we ordered required a bit of instruction. a few minutes later, the waiter wandered past to check if we knew how to handle certain items; helpful, but would've been nice to have this concurrent. you get wet napkins at the start of your meal; would have been nice to get them by the end as well. otherwise, pretty flavorful - the sauces in particular are really additive. the spice in the papaya salad builds up, and the warmth of the sticky rice balls kind of surprisingly amplify that heat. altogether a fun if not totally coherent experience."

  • "Went here on a wendesday night as a group of 4. We ordered the pig head special, ribs, noodle soup and fish. Don't be scared off by the name, the pig is a must try. Food, drinks and service were all excellent. Great spot if you are a bit adventurous and want to try something new."

  • "I loved the mean and the ambiance. Great sake and cocktail menu. The gem of the list is the family recipe cocktail. Foodie dream. Chef Phet is brilliant. Service is superb. Must haves: Beef Jerky (fantastic!! Went soo fast we had to ordered 2!!!) Bang bang sauce Bone marrow (while they still have it) Coconut Rice Ribs I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure Chef Phet took us on. Looking forward to my next culinary trip."

  • "A group of four went to this restaurant on a Sunday evening. At first it wasn't so crowded but it got crowded fast. We shared everything and the food was fantastic and flavorful. First time for all of us having laotian food and it was great. Our server was so blah unfortunately. No smile and he appeared so disinterested he shouldn't be a waiter. A bit overpriced for certain dishes, i.e. the pho was $23 but it was delicious. The chicken was overpriced - one baby chicken on a skewer was $20+. Btw the waiter suggested we order the baby chicken even though we ordered the quail. Could have done without the chicken and should have ordered something different. The chef came out and served some dishes which was really great."

  • "My guest & I had a scrumptious meal at Khe-Yo. I had read about the chef and the cuisine and was happy that I got a reservation. We had the rice croquettes to begin and then ordered the poussin and the ribs. The ribs were superb and we made mincemeat of them with the coconut rice. We were unable to have dessert as we had gone to Laduree before coming for dinner. Both of us have already told our friends about this restaurant and I cannot wait for the next visit."

  • "I love southeast Asian food, especially anything with fish sauce. Highlights were the coconut rice wrapped in lettuce leaves, the hot sauce accompanying the complementary rice, and the chili prawns (really succulent, and also with a delectable sauce). We felt a little rushed, though. Our appetizers came out immediately, and the entrees came out before we had finished either the appetizers (which we were sharing, so there was not enough room for all of it at the same time)."

They clearly couldn't wait for us to get out, kept trying to clear plates before we were done with them & even going so far as to essentially grab our signed cc receipts out of our hands before our pens were even down!"

  • "My group of 16 literally ordered everything off of the menu, somethings we even ordered twice. Although everything was delicious -there were some definite favorites: the steak tartare & roasted bone marrow, the crunchy coconut rice & spicy Sausage, grilled ginger quail and the whole grilled bass with tamarind peanut sauce. Our server was attentive, helpful and incredibly friendly. It is one of the few restaurants in recent memory that has lived up to they hype. Looking forward to going back on a weekend when they have their pig face salad - really wanted to try this dish and since they don't have it during the week, I now have an excellent reason to return very soon (although the crunchy rice is definitelyt reason enough!)."

  • "The aroma is intoxicating upon entering Khe-Yo. The somewhat casual scene so different with beautiful wood tables on different levels piled with food that one rarely sees in NYC. The entire vibe here is very cool! Great tastes and yes some serious heat in the dishes prevail. You can also nearly avoid the spice with the outstanding ribs on the menu but why do that if you are coming here. This is time to experiment with new flavors and tastes. The Prawns are amazing, complex and flavorful Just wished there was one (okay two) more! Knowledgeable service was outstanding. Menu selection is small and focused on authenticity. Definitely worth a visit to this non-descript location on Duane in TriBeCa."

  • "I vacationed in Laos and loved it. So coming to this restaurant was a real treat. The food is authentic and very refined. The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Dishes are shared. The sticky rice with dipping sauce was divine - simple and perfect. We sat at the bar to wait for our party to arrive and the bartender was also super knowledgable and attentive. Will come her again as I work nearby, but it is worth traveling to."

  • "We were delighted that khe-yo produced such vibrant, intense flavors, that varied very much from dish to dish. The Kabocha salad and Poussin were both on the chili-acid-tangy side of delicious; the grilled black bass brought a totally different citrusy freshness, and a vanilla coconut orange dessert was also good (though they offer only one dessert option at a time). It's tribeca casual (jeans are fine but still totally appropriate for a date or party)."

  • "Have been searching for an upscale Southeast Asian restaurant for a long time. We used to be a fan of Mai House, but unfortunately they closed and disappeared. Now finally, I have found a restaurant that can take the place of Mai House. Great tasting food, the chilly paste that was served with the beef jerky resembled an Indonesian taste which I grew up with but hadn't tasted ever since I left the country. I can comment on the flavor of each dish, but I'm sure the chef is aware of it himself. I have dined in Fatty Crab, but the flavors resembled a pan asian taste and not authentic. So thank you for providing such an authentic upscale Laos cuisine. Hopefully I will be able to find an upscale Indonesian restaurant in the future."

  • "Our guide was very helpful in terms of showing us how to eat the dishes and recommending items on the menu. Food was delicious and fun! Only complaint is that for the type of food, a good Riesling by the glass that pairs with it wasn't available. I'd recommend a Riesling that has a balance between sweet and sour with good acidity. The current Riesling offering is too flat. Noise level could also be slightly toned down as people across the table couldn't hear each other. Thank you very much!!"

  • "Our group of six was in need of a nice place to dine on Christmas Eve, and I was surprised to discover the Khe-Yo was going to be open. As our 7:30 reservation time drew close, I was informed that our group had now grown to 8. I phoned Khe-Yo immediately to alert them of our expanded party, and they happily accommodated the last-minute extra people. When we arrived, the host could not have been any friendlier, led us to our table and immediately took our drink order…which arrived post-haste! The waiter was extremely knowledgable and explained the dishes perfectly. His recommendations were spot on! The food was delivered family style, so we were all able to share the tasty delights. The entire experience was pure perfection!!!"

  • "It's been awhile since I've tasted a new range of flavors and Khe-Yo's dishes deliver the most surprising ones. Crunchy rice, thin coins of sausage, and star anise slices combine in crisp lettuce wraps for a yummy bite; chili prawn and a thick slice of toast are filling and satisfying. One of our friends is allergic to shellfish, so she was warned about the spare ribs -- many of the dishes have oyster sauce in them -- so we ordered the quail--and our party of 5 all got a sample of it, along with the tiny brussel sprouts in the hearty dish. Service was friendly, attentive, and informative--our waiter knew all the spices, and even went so far as to ask the chef about one of the more exotic herbs and where to find it (answer: in Chinatown!)"

  • "Great spot. Brought my brother and his wife who were visiting from out of town, so we'd have something more unique than NYC italian or a steakhouse. The food was seriously good. Very unique flavors. The jumbo prawns were outrageous. Couple dishes were a little over the top, like the bone marrow, but still solid."
