Several of us eat Lao food mosy days at home, or at the homes of family and friends, and Keh Yo proved to be an authentic dining experince while we were visiting NYC."

  • "My husband and I dined here and were blown away by the overall atmosphere of the restaurant and the superb preparation and presentation of our dishes. Having never had Laotian food, this was without a doubt the best restaurant we ate at during our weekend vacation to NYC. There is no comparison to the Chili Prawns, which are a must for any diner, as well as the sesame beef jerky, the ginger quail, Berkshire spare ribs and pork curry noodles. We tried many of the dishes and there wasn't a single one that we didn't quickly devour in it's entirety because it was so very good! Bravo to Chef Phet Schwader and his wonderful staff at Khe-Yo. We will surely return!"

  • "Being of a Thai-Laotian background, I like to eat food that reminds me of where I came from. I frequently can find a Thai restaurant anywhere, but a place that serves Laotian food is rare to find. I found this place through a Google search, looked at the menu and was excited to give it a try. Considering the fact that I haven't had any Laotian food since I was sixteen years of age (I'm now beyond twice that age), every bite of the food I took brought back some memories of the food my mother used to make before she past away. I've enjoyed the food, but gave the food a 'very good' mark instead of an 'excellent' because the papaya salad could had used a little less lime juice and have more of that robust authentic taste."

  • "Dined here with a group of 5 last Saturday night, and had an excellent experience. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick (but not rushed). The food was absolutely incredible. We had a bunch of "small plates" and then split 4 entrees among the group: the glass noodles, the shrimp, the pork and noodle soup, and the pig face -- which was a special for the night and was phenomenal, albeit a bit adventurous for some. Overall, we had a wonderful meal and will certainly be back."

  • "The staff seemed uninterested and did't explain the dishes very well and suggested way too much food. The starters were very hot and our group does eat lots of spicy food and found these over the top. The mains were very good and just the right amount of spice. We found the restaurant to be very noisy when full and hard to have a conversation with each other. With too many strikes against it I would not go back."

  • "If you haven't tried Laos cuisine, this is a good place to start. Their bang bang sauce is phenomenal. But be careful, it is super hot. For appetizer, I highly recommend Laos sausage. And for entrée, prawn and ribs are very tasty."

  • "Service was eager, the decor is attractive and unintrusive, and the food was incredible. It's a brief enough menu for my party to have ordered two-thirds of the offerings, and each dish was cleanly flavored, distinctive and powerful. The pork belly salad, coconut rice, banana leaf black bass filet, lao sausage, and the ribs were particularly good - the dipping sauces were freshly made and highly spiced. The house cocktails were thoughtful without being overwrought (the cucumber and chile-infused vodka and also the bourbon and Aperol were very agreeable). The only drawback was that it is a small space and inevitably noisy. Best new (to me) place I've been in months."

  • "I was happy with my experience at Khe-Yo. We were seated quickly, and the servers were very attentive and informative about the menu. The menu was a bit limited, however, the dishes were quite varied. I enjoyed the meal. Soft shell crab appetizer, sun shrimp entrée, and watermelon sorbet for dessert. All very tasty. The only gripe I have is that they charged us for the sparkling water, and there was a beverage tax (?). I have been to a lot of places, and never got charged for sparkling water. It would have been nice if they had mentioned that there was a charge when I ordered. All in all, I would probably visit again."

Only thing that could be better is the initial experience while you're waiting for a table. Despite having a reservation, the hostess was quite airheaded - forgot that she had checked us in, didn't remember us - so it started off not so well. But everything after we sat down was fantastic!"

  • "Great place to share dishes. The atmosphere is energetic and reasonably casual for a hot spot. Only negative was the pacing of the service. We ordered 5 dishes for 3 of us to share and they arrived almost all at once. Know what Banana flower is? I didn't until I ate at Khe-Yo. It tastes nothing like banana but is incorporated into a scrumptious salad with pork belly. A tasty start. The soft shelled crab special was a crispy and juicy follow up. Crunchy coconut rice was superb. We enjoyed the ribs and whole bass entrees. Bottom line. Food great, atmosphere good. Recommend trying if you haven't."

Very accommodating, patient and vibrant staff! The dining experience was well rounded, from cocktails, to apps, etc. Very pleasant all around!"

  • "I just love this place. I first visited in September and my most recent visit was on 4/12/14. Somehow, I enjoyed it even more this time around. We had: nam khao, the laap dip, laap pa, thum mak houng, sien-haeng, sai ua moo, and the notorious pig face. I could go on for days but I'll just say that everything was great. My favorites were the laap dip and the pig face. Least favorite was probably the nam khao, only because it was a tad too sweet. The condiments and sauces that accompanied the dishes really elevated everything. If you're adventurous, ask for the pa-dak (fermented fish sauce). Also, the magnum bottle of Rose we ordered was great for washing down all the spicy food. Plus, it was $65 for 1.5L lol."

  • "Coconut rice balls were delicious. Hot sauce that comes with the steamed rice was very spicy - and that's a good thing! Grilled branzino was cooked perfectly. Be prepared to eat with your hands as several dishes come with lettuce or rice paper wraps. Crowd was late 20s/early 30s on a Friday night. Going back again soon!"

  • "The food at Khe-yo is different to say the least. Noting the limited menu online, I was hoping there would be a bunch of specials upon my arrival. Unfortunately, all the specials were pork based (consistent with most of the menu), which me or my family do not eat. However, even with our limited options everyone enjoyed the uniqueness and taste of each thing we ordered. I reccomend the beef jerky and squash salad."

  • "We went there on a Tuesday night. Could not hear my husband the entire night. Mostly young people there and they were all yelling. The tables were packed together very closely. I wonder if that meets the fire department code. Will not return."
