Diner Reviews
  • "Convenient location when you are going to the Music Center but the food was awful. 4 of us were so disappointed with our dishes that none of us will return. What a shame. I had the lamb which was the special on the day. It was tasteless and tough. The manager who was making the rounds of tables stopped by and asked about our dinner. When I told her it wasn't good (my husband had tried it too and was shocked by how awful it was) she replied that I wasn't used to eating French lamb and it's different. Really? My favorite cuisine is French and we go to France quite often and I'm not familiar with bad tasting food there. We will not return to this restaurant."

  • "I have been a frequent customer at Kendall's before matinee performances at the Music Center.I was disappointed this last time because they changed their menu to a "brunch" menu---not my favorite.Though now egg dishes predominate, we were able to find one steak dish which we enjoyed but missed the moules, the soups and other dishes from the old menu."

  • "I still prefer the lunch menu, but I thank you for adding lunch items to your brunch menu. I had the best Nicoise Salad. Your staff is very sensitive to getting us to the theater on time. Service is always excellent."

  • "We really enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and the service! We came because we had an early curtain time (7:30) at the music center and were very pleasantly surprised. We'll come back even with a later curtain time!"

  • "I love Kendall's! Love their efficiency! Love the roasted chicken! Love the toasty bread! Love the wine choices! Love the proximity to music center, Disney Hall and the new Grand St. Park! Love that u only have to park once! Perfect choice for dinner or after a performance!"

  • "We came for an oddly timed Happy Hour, which occurs from 3p to 5p (before the end of most work days), and again from 8p to 10p (when the restaurant is quiet during Music Center performances). Their "Green Hour" is called so because of their extensive Absinthe choices and cocktails that is difficulty to find anywhere. Happy Hour food choices consist of a good selection of well-priced seafood, charcuterie, and cheeses. The service is very attentive, well informed, and amiable. I do admit that due to the odd hours, the restaurant was very quiet and low key. I would love to see how energetic the restaurant and bar are before a performance; but if you are not going to watch anything at the Music Center, might as well wait for the Green Hour."

  • "So enjoyed the new brunch menu before attending a performance of the opera. Attentive service and delicious new items such as a variety of egg dishes added to the enjoyment of our meal !"

  • "First time at this restaurant always wanted to go there due to the location to the music center, but seem to always be booked up when I would check on it. Well this time I was able to get in, and after all these others times I tried I found the place just average (except for their prices). Yes, it was great to be able to walk to your event from there, but don't think that is a selling point at this place. I have been to many of the other Patina Group restaurants, I would put this one at their lower end. I just expect a little more than average when I spend that type of money."

  • "This is the 2nd time we had a pre-concert meal at Kendall's, but this time we were smart and made reservations. Whoever manages this restaurant, knows how to do it right. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside. We had plenty of time and settled in for a leisurely lunch (brunch actually). The service was unhurried, courteous and efficient. The food was nicely prepared and tasty. Both the steak and eggs were prepared perfectly, and the salad that came with my food was fresh albeit very light on the dressing . I initially thought they'd forgotten the dressing, but after stirring the lettuce up a bit, I did detect some. The French bread that comes with the food was fresh and hot, as was the coffee. Nice place!"

  • "After seeing a play at the Music Center we went to have dinner at Kendall's. For Saturday night dinner, you definitely need a reservation. With our reservation, we were seated promptly. The service was very good. I had the sea bass and my guests had the short ribs and the pork chops. The pork chops were especially tasty. We shared the mousse for dessert. It was wonderful. It was a great day, seeing the play and then dinner at Kendall's."

  • "It appears they save the nice ambience of the main Dino g room for their regular customers. Infrequent pre-theater diners get side room table with poor ambience. Very expensive for the quality. Ordered mussels appetizer and literally received 8 mussels for $15. Wine list has nice selection but overpriced. Main course rotisserie chicken was salty and dry. Overall, convenient for music center but next time try Patina for the same cost."

  • "Our server could not have been more attentive or gracious. Made the entire dining experience a real pleasure. Food was great, too. We've been there often, last Friday was one of the nicest."

  • "Once again we enjoyed a great dinner at Kendall's Brasserie. We were on the way to the Ahmanson and Kendall's Brasserie was very close. They validate parking just down Grand. Easy to find. The cuisine is excellent. Great short ribs and Bouillabaisse. Our server Marlon was tremendous, very attentive and very friendly. Come early for a dinner before the arts and enjoy yourself, or ask to be served quickly; both work well."

  • "The most convenient pre-theater dining choice (Music Center), Kendall's has transformed - with new dinner menus and a brand new weekend brunch menu. Food is more interesting now, and service at all levels has become more attentive. As a long- time patron who can compare old and new ways, I am impressed."

  • "We went before a event at The disney concert Hall . They got us in and out without feeling rushed. Beef tartar was Fantastic . Pork chop was a tad gamey . T hey had a pork special that night but had already sold out and our reservation was 6:30 Had a great Riesling from alsace . No complaints !"

  • "There is no better restaurant to dine pre-concert. We have had the same server a few times and it is always delightful to be acknowledged as a frequent patron. Thank you agin for getting us to the performance on time. K."

  • "Have been to Kendall's many times and always had a great experience (usually it is connected to going to a show at the Music Center)."

  • "Kendall's is always an easy way to go before the theatre. Arrive early, park without any waiting or problem, walk up to street level to the restaurant and be seated. On Thursday night the restaurant was pleasantly full but not crowded. Service was attentive and prompt and so there was no problem arriving at the theatre before the curtain went up. The Thurdsay night special prime rib was excellent, as was the cauliflower soup and the salmon, as usual, was very, very good. The short walk to the play did not begin to burn off the calories consumed."

  • "I love steak tartar but, their tartar was the most tasteless I have ever had."

  • "it was really hard to get anyone's attention, we didn't see our server for a very long time and no one checked on us."

  • "We dined at Kendall's before attending a show at the Ahmanson Theatre. They now serve brunch during the usual pre theatre lunch time. It was quite good, and a nice change from their prior, long-standing lunch menu. I recommend the brasserie on it's own merits, and it's so convenient for the Music Center."

  • "Kendall's food is always competent, always makes sure you get to theater on time (although once in awhile you have to push them if they are very busy), and so, so, convenient."

  • "There are few options available to theatergoers for Saturday and Sunday matinees ..... so my group of friends generally dine at Kendall's. I think that the Patina Group knows that they have a "captive audience" and it is reflected in their menu. The food for the most part is good, but uninspired. The servers are good at getting you out in time for the show....having said all that we'll probably always lunch there before our matinee, but not with any real excitement or anticipation."

  • "I'm not a fan of Kendall's Brasserie, and we only go there because it's close to Ahmanson and Disney Center. Sat. March 22 will be the last time I will go, There were 4 of us and my rotisserie chicken was dry and terrible . I didn't eat it, husband did . Our friend's salmon was indelible; her husband picked at it. That's why I'm giving it a poor rating. I am a foodie, and need to find another place downtown . Just bought the new Zagat but do you have any suggestions ?"

  • "I was very disappointed this past Sunday to find they'd done away with their usual lunch menu on weekends (until 3) and had moved to an "all-brunch" menu. No roast chicken, no skirt steak, no seafood--cooked or raw. The chateau steak (which I eventually ordered) was more than I wanted, but the only non-egg, non-sandwich, non-salad option. All the "mid-size" entrees like the skirt steak or seafood are gone. One diner sat down at the table behind us, looked at the menu, and got up and left. We've eaten our pre-opera lunch at Kendall's for years, and would hate to end this tradition. But I'm a diabetic. The salads aren't enough to carry me through to dinner, I don't want more eggs, and I can't eat sandwiches on my low-carb diet."

  • "I went to the restaurant expecting lunch. They are now serving brunch on the weekends. I think the options were too limited and too many of the dishes were focused around eggs. I would still like the option to order off of the lunch menu."

  • "If you're going to the Ahmanson, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion or Mark Taper Forum, Kendall's Brasserie at The Music Center is the ideal choice. Park your car and then get ready for a delicious meal - served by smart, attentive folks who know what they're doing. No time is wasted and you'll be able to get to your performance after a delicious meal. The food is great, the service swift and attentive, the ambience very pleasant. All in all, it's a great enhancement to your evening out."

  • "Kendall's always offers a varied and sumptous menu for all occasions. They are also willing to grant special needs for food alergies etc. The service is impeccable without being bothersome. I have never been disappointed when I have eaten at Kendall's."

  • "The ambiance is nice. The food was tasty but nothing amazing. We choose it since it was near a play were were going to attend. So we did see a few celebrities also dining before the show. I did order the french onion soup before my meal and have to say it was very bland. I was not going to mention it,but the waiter ask how it was and I had to be honest he was nice enough to let me get a different soup which had a better flavor to it. But still very average tasting. Will try a different place to dine before my next theater show."

  • "The tittle indicates how I feel about the most provocative appetizer I had this year. I most definitely will return to consume this gem. I liked the ambiance although, next time, I will asked for the Lounge seating; seems the most appealing ; as the dining rooms are filled to capacity which makes navigating through; challenging. The service was not optimal, but then restaurant was filled to capacity. My partner's Lamb was cooked to perfection, and the wine selection offered by the waitress was right on target. My cocktail; I ordered a Negrone; was overpriced at $17.50. I've had better. Definitely a Patina restaurant."
