Kendall's Brasserie at the LA Music CenterA booster shot of Paris in LANot to overdraw, but walking in from the boulevards of LA one gets a whiff of Maxim's, or perhaps Vagenende -- just enough to reminisce and anticipate the food to follow. Good oysters, charcuterie, thoughtful wine list (had a nice little Lirac this last visit, where does one find that in the US?), even a choice of pastis -- though the waiter needed to get more comfortable with it, the barman knew his stuff. (The waiter didn't know what pastis was, and ordered up a gentiane instead -- but I repeat myself, where does one find that in the US?) M. Great French cooking at a modest price. Lamb was excellent, the flagoulet beans exploded with flavor, and the garlic flan that complemented the main course was inspired! On this occassion, we had prime ribs with Pinot Noir wine. The food and service were excellent. The atmosphere was friendly and many of the other patrons obviously had the same plans to go to the show and were in a happy mood.
