Diner Reviews
  • "Even with true rookie servers, the service was really good. Superb presentation, and wonderful taste combinations. Yes, Kendall is a little out of the way, but why this restaurant is not packed to the gills is beyond me. The $22 three course lunch includes a glass of wine. This is one of the best deals in City."

  • "If Kendall demonstrates the future of restauranteurs, front and back of the house, the future is in excellent hands. Painstakingly prepared and served by students, under watchful but not intrusive supervision by experts, the food is seasonal, inventive, surprising, and delicious. At $22 ( or $28 with a generous pour of the excellent house wine) the 3 course lunch is the absolute best value in the city. And parking is free!"

  • "This was our first visit to this cooking school in Chicago and it will not be our last.. Everything was perfect. We have been to other schools and this is the finest. We are avid restaurant goers and feel this is a hidden gem. Thank you for the wonderful experience!!"

  • "The Kendall College Dining Room is one of the finest restaurants in the area. I am never disappointed. I try to go several times each semester so that I can try everything on the menu. Outstanding food and service!"

  • "This is a wonderful dining experience made even better by knowing that you are being a part of the students' educational experience. Do NOT worry that anything is comprised because this is a training program. Quite the contrary, food, service, etc. excel precisely because every step is required to be sensational."

  • "Once again we had another great dinner, superbly prepared and served by the students under the watchful eye of Maureen, who takes such care to make sure that everything goes well."

  • "It's a school with experienced instructors so we were expecting great food. It did not disappoint. We've been to Kendall's multiple times and they always have interesting choices on the menu. We had our office holiday party here with over 25 people and it was fine. The one draw back is the service. During each term students trade time between the kitchen and table service. Some students have likely never been to a restaurant with fine dining service so their supervisor is busier guiding students during table service which means it can take more time. Our lunch yesterday took 2 1/2 hours. It's not the first time and it's nice not to be rushed but just be aware if you've got limited time. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed."

  • "After a wonderful visit here a couple years ago, this was an extremely poor experience. From the rude, controlling receptionist upon arrival (and were ushered into an ugly waiting area instead of asked if we wanted to go to the bar while waiting for table). Indifferent server who was not informed about the menu and rarely refilled wine glasses. Very long gaps between courses. Inconsistent food (pheasant, souffle and steak were excellent, lava cake, gnocchi and duck poorly executed and well below average). Were overcharged for beverages; found out when arrived home & contacted restaurant - 3 days later have not heard back. Cheese cart no longer presented tableside but is pre-plated and with a haphazard presentation. Major decline since 2012."

  • "We went on Valentine's Day, it was clear there was a different head chef, and the menu reflected a different type of creativity. We have to go back because there were so many dishes to choose from and we want to try them all. The service, friendliness and amazingly delicious and creative food blew them out of the water. We had just an incredible evening. Also Pam the hospitality teacher was so professional, caring and passionate and set a great example for her students. We even had some creative cocktails and those were interesting and refreshing. We felt guilty for paying only $29 for a price fixed meal for this type of food. Can't wait to go back."

  • "I love going to Kendal college. The food is always great, the escargot was a nice new verson. Both my husband and I enjoyed the osso bucco. Dessert was fabulous...the lemon curd ice cream meringue and the sculptural "s'more. Service was good but a little spotty, it usually is flawless."

  • "We ate there Restaurant Week. Snowy night; hard to see where the actual entrance is. It's on the 3rd floor! Big open glassed-in kitchen. (New) Very nice menu. It was $29; a glass of wine was $4 more. Many choices; a very good deal. The one problem? Serving temperatures. Two of us had the gnocchi. Pretty plates, but they got cold fast. Last 1/2 were cool. The soup was hot. Same thing with the beef medallions. Very good quality; served well. But they were cut in pieces. The first bite or two were warm; the rest was cool. I commented to the waitperson. To his credit he offered to replace it. Another person with us had the same problem. We said 'no thanks'. Desserts were good. The dining room was not full. Generally, we enjoyed our meal."

  • "Chose this as a Restaurant Week lunch and had a great experience. No street signage, but once inside Kendall College, our reservation was confirmed and we were directed to the 3rd floor restaurant (nice views!) via elevator when our table was ready. The food was, quite simply, outstanding. Each dish used creative yet tasty combinations of flavors, and the execution was uniformly flawless. It was impressive enough to put many high profile spots in our town to shame, and these are (advanced) culinary students! Appetizers: potato cakes with smoked salmon; seared pork belly and poached egg. Entrees: Sauteed duck breast with duck meatball; venison au poivre. Desserts: date pudding w/toffee sauce; bittersweet pot de creme. All highly recommended!"

  • "What a gem! My husband and I dined here on Friday night. The dining room is spacious and the view of the city is awesome. The number of offerings, taste and presentation of the food was very good. And the prices were very reasonable. There were a few items slightly off, but overall a great experience. We'll definitely be back."

  • "What a wonderful experience! Eager students serve you very capably. And, they WANT you to be happy! It is so nice to be taken care of by such energetic and charming people. The food is tremendous - you'd never know it was students in the kitchen. 3 courses for under $40. You can't beat it. Great wines by the glass. Interesting selection of spirits. Free parking. Go because it's great value. You'll return because it's soooo good!"

  • "We love eating here. The quality experience starts with the ingredients themselves, then the preparation, then the presentation. All noteworthy. My husband had lamb chops - "the best he's ever had". I had Osso Bucco which was delicious and I loved the marrow bone, polenta and black kale that went with it. I should say that we started with escargot - superb! Desserts were beautiful and delicious. Very reasonable pricing for all of this. Living in the suburbs, it can be challenging to get here but every time we come we say that we should do it more often."

  • "KCDR was great. We've been there twice and the service and food are both great. The menu is prix fixe and varies depending on month and visiting chef. The cooking and service is done by the students and all gratuities go to help with scholarships. Parking is free and right in front."

  • "Kendall College Dinning room is tucked away and a little off the beaten track. However, it is worth the trip. The food is interesting and delicious. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere very urban. Our group of 6 all enjoyed their meals immensely. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special night out. Our group has been here several times and it is always a great experience."

  • "Great tasting food in a relaxing and learning experience. Relaxing in the sense because there is no rush. Learning experience for both the patrons and the staff running the restaurant (students and faculty running the restaurant). The presentation of every course was amazing and the portions are just right. I would suggest one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert per person at the table and everyone can taste a little of everything. Our appetizers was the mushroom risotto (special for the night) and the rillette. Main course was the duck (poached style) and the hanger steak. Finished up with the smores (special) and the chocolate with coconut with a chocolate sauce soup. Every coarse was very tasty. Make a trip there."

  • "We decided on Kendall College because we had been there before but not for a regar meal. Our past experience ce and the food were both very good. This particular evening we were headed to theatre and decided to try it for dinner. We made a reservation for 6 pm. We arrived promptly and were greeted quickly and courteously. The food was prepared by students and was excellent. The servers were friendly and prompt. The cocktails were great with a. Ice selection of both win and beer (local variety beer). A fixed menu with starter, main and dessert offered a great variety while offering a reasonable fixed price. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates unique dishes not found on typical restaurant menus."

  • "Made it a point to review this place! Had a wonderful lunch experience at the Kendall College Dining Room. The food was impeccable and the service was amazing! Highly reccommended and enjoyed each course with great delight! The students are working really hard to create the masterpiece dishes and the servers am to please and are outstanding. It was a 5 star experience!! Please tip generously as the proceeds go towards scholarships for those wanting to attend Kendall and are in financial need."

  • "I attended the Monday Night series that includes a five-course prix-fixe menu. The food was excellent, though the portions were a bit large--five courses in general is a lot of food, but each course felt like an entree. The service was quite slow as well, though it is understandable since it is still a teaching/learning experience for the "staff" (all students) servicing the dining room. The overall experience was good, but some tweaks would have made a difference. That being said, my critiques are minor--the students did a great job; diners with some patience will enjoy their meal regardless."
