This is one of our favorite restaurants here. The avgolemeno soup is the best ever tasted. I always try to recreate it, but have not mastered it. Seafood is fresh and superbly prepared. Service is excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. Not inexpensive but worth it

Kellari is a Greek place that specializes in seafood. I have no idea if that is an authentic maneuver or not, I just know all the staff is friendly, happy to recommend fish and wine pairings and the wine list includes some fun imports. The lighting is romantically dim, and they have fresh fish on ice. You pick fish, they cook fish... delish! Also, don't be in a rush... it ain't that kinda place :-)

We asked for mezede the Pikilia, two spoon of 4 store bought spreads for almost $20!!! Their bread and pita were very dried. The entrees were good, the fish very fresh, the pasta with octopus, delish! Desserts not the big deal, loukoumades mushy... the yogurt with fruits was excellent. The wine super overpriced, but the ambiance and service were wonderful.

We had a wonderful dinner at Kellari. Kellari is located near the corner of Connecticut and K Street NW and has valet parking in the evening. The restaurant decor is very attractive and a little dark. The restaurant has an excellent selection of fresh fish in ice on view You select the fish you want and Kellari cooks the fish in the style which you desire. They also have a variety of meet and poulty selections. The service is attentive but no overbearing. They have an outstanding wine list.

Three of us came here for a farewell lunch. Lunch started out well - great bread basket and hummus! - and the waiter was fine until we placed our order (we all got the 3 course special and ordered our entire lunch at once). The food was great (although the risotto that accompanied the grouper wasn't as creamy as it should have been and was "al dente"), but the service took a major turn for the worse when our waiter was assigned to a large group. Our second drinks only came after we flagged down another waiter, the coffee ordered never came and there was a long wait for the check after flagging down yet another waiter! It was unfair to penalize us b/c of the other group's size; the waiter should have had help. This was a service failure!!

The food is mediocre. The shrimp appetizer was good, and then it was downhill. The grilled lamb chops were bland. The accompanying potatoes would make a serious chef blush. And the baklava tasteless. Pretty sad for a celebrated name in Greek food. Will I return, not likely.

Neither my girlfriend nor I was particularly hungry when we dropped in after a Smithsonian tour to a wildlife sanctuary near Hopewell, VA. We got a couple appetizers each -- the spinach pie and lamb riblets for her, the shrimp and meatballs for me -- and were satisfied. I had a couple glasses of retsina and a couple shots to ouzo while she got a single glass of sauvignon blanc. The waiter thought we should have something to finish the meal, so brought a plate of sliced cheese. We will return to Kellari Taverna.

The place was crowded and the Taverna was short of staff. After 20 minutes of waiting for the menus and bread, my Director had to stand up and look for the manager. Still took them 5 more minutes to figure out where the menus were and hand them over to my 14 people-table. Food is excellent but it was sooo slow for it to come. Despite my Director was already relaxed with his drink, he had to stand up again and talk to the manager (again!) so we could get the least the appetizers! Indeed staff had a very good attitude despite they were under the gun due to my Director's complaints.. we even got free desserts! but please Kellari, hire more staff!!

Everything from bread to dessert was delicious! The complimentary bread was warm and was likely warmed up on fire grill. It came with complimentary hummus, olives and radishes. We went for a 3 course pre-fixe, and it was amazing. We ordered watercress salad and scallop risotto for appetizers, Lavraki Mediterranean bass and Natural chicken for entrees, and baklava and custard pie for dessert. We washed everything down with perfect Greek coffee and amazing white wine (Pinot Grigio and Greek house wine). The service was attentive. The ambiance is perfect for nice dinner and conversation with a friend, a date, or a business partner. Highly recommend.

This restaurant has excellent authentic food but really needs to work on the ambiance. The elevator music was the elephant in the room - made me feel like I was on K Street circa 1986. Classical Greek music (not Zorba) or something similar to compliment the meal would make this much more special.

The seafood choices and quality are superb. Room is attractive. Grilled octopus was terrific though pricey for an appetizer. Grilled whole fish were brought to the table before being cooked, then prepared perfectly. Very high quality fish. Side dishes such as vegetables, rice, etc were all extra and expensive, but also excellent. Great selection of Greek wines, and the whites are perfect with the seafood. Overall an excellent restaurant and worth the price if you like seafood.

I've dined at Kellari several times and I've always been pleased with both the food and the service. Unfortunately, after last time, I won't return. The hostess played with her phone for six minutes before noticing us, leaving us (and the other lunch customers) standing in the entrance. Once seated, table service was very good. The food was the biggest letdown: the spice crusted tuna (on greens) was previously frozen and still cold inside. It had no flavor. My friend ordered the salmon and received a small, also flavorless, piece. As I said, we won't go back.

this is a classic spot with a high-brow look and feel. the fresh fish is fantastic, the wine was unusual and tasty, the aperitivo deserves more attention. the experience was only imperfect due to an obnoxious serve who repeatedly interrupted our conversations and offered far too much of his own opinion on our meal. there is a fine line between helpful and overbearing, but this gentlemen continually crossed it and it reflected negatively on the restaurant.

Not as good as my previous visits to Kellari. Everything from the service, atmosphere to the food was fair to good. Felt a bit rushed to order in the beginning. Did not care for the techno pop music they played throughout the evening. Did not seem to be appropriate music for the atmosphere. Mentioned it to the waitress but they continued to play it.

My husband and I dined here during Kellari's extension of restaurant week. The menu had excellent choices and was a great price(it is the same menu as their pre-theater menu). I had the spanakopita which was delicious and a generous portion, and my husband had the wild salmon tartare, which he enjoyed. I had the lavraki, which once again was a large portion, and was excellent, cooked just right. It was served with steamed wild greens which didn't have much appeal to me. My husband had the artic char which was also delicious. The baklava for dessert was excellent. Overall an enjoyable meal and an excellent value! We will return.
