Kellari TavernaGreat food but a little slowFood was amazing, and this is coming from a Greek person. However, dinner took us 3 hours from the time of the reservation to the time we paid our check. We were a big group so it wasn't crazy, but we definitely spent a LOT of time waiting for our food. Otherwise, the restaurant was perfect. Pricy, but very tasty.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fantastic andThe food was fantastic and the service was timely. We had a wonderful birthday lunch and will be finding an excuse to go again soon.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been many times and amHave been many times and am always happy with the dining experience. The food was delicious, the jazz set the mood and the welcoming staff kept our glasses full. We had a great experience and I would highly recommend Kellari for special occasion brunches with family or friends.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation DinnerExcellent place for a celebration!!!
Beautiful decor!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to DC for an overnightWent to DC for an overnight stay. Saw Kellari when I used open table to look for resturants. We are Greek and always look for good Greek food. Found it! The keftedes (meatballs) were outstanding. The wine list includes Greek wines that you don't often find (love my Retsina). They have a great selection of fresh fish on ice and they will answer any questions you might have. I had a grilled fish called Tsipoura - it was deboned and excellent. My wife had a medium strip steak that was perfectly cooked. The desserts were great too but my Theies (aunts) still edge them out. Recommend the loukoumades and galatoboureka.
Lastly, the place was filled with other Greeks as well so you know the food is noteworthy. Time to bring the Godparents!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and service. VegetableGood food and service. Vegetable chips superb. Nice option for business meeting, especially if you are tired of the many steak houses.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Meze and SeafoodThe Greek Salad is terrific, with huge chunks of fresh tomatoes. The grilled whole fish was also outstanding, cooked perfectly and de-boned.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMYou Can Always Count on KellariThe food and service at Kellari Taverna are always good. The lunch special is still one of the better deals in town and the waiters are knowledgeable and pleasant.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the ambiance and dessertLovely, welcoming restaurant, with good food and service that ranges from excellent to outstanding. Only wish there were more seafood options that did not involve ordering a whole fish. Love the greek yogurt, honey and cherries dessert for a reasonably healthy, but delicious end to the meal.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service and food,Excellent service and food, not all items available from the menu.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMan excellent choice for lunch,an excellent choice for lunch, with the food and service delectible and unobtrusive, respectively, which makes a perfect combination for a business lunch. Initially a little anxious about the openess and close seating, only to find the environment conducive to a comfortable private conversation. A restaurant new to me but not my lunch guest, who has been before and obviously likes it and has now added it to my list of places to go.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOnce again, Kellari did notOnce again, Kellari did not disappoint. The fish was excellent, as were the vegetable sides. The atmosphere is pleasant, and even though there was a large group near us, the noise was not at all a problem.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual, the fish was great! As usual, the fish was great! Pan-seared rainbow trout, as I recall. Excellent romaine salad with feta cheese as appetizer. Very reliable restaurant.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always so goodThe food is always so good at Kellari. The fresh fish is amazing! Your free bottle of proseco was such a nice idea! The servers were knowledgable and attentive. The salmon entree was especially
good. They served croissants with the best cherry jam I have ever had!
Will be going back soon for dinner.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreek in heart of DCThe imported fresh fish display on ice was impressive. The sea bass I ordered in a tomato sauce was outstanding. There specialty is seafood Greek style. Some items on menu are a bit pricy and the cost for two people can quickly hit $90 if not careful with selections. A memorable meal over all.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, ambiance, and serviceWe loved the food and the service. The 6 of us were seated at a round table in a quiet part of the restaurant, making it easy to hear one another. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful, offering many suggestions from the menu.I would never have ordered the fried octopus, but the waiter suggested we try it- FANTASTIC! The greek salad, red snapper, risotto, salmon and roasted potatoes were among the dishes we ordered and all were excellent. It's on the pricey side...but worth it for a special occasion4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly Exceptional Dining ExperienceI went for a special occasion and had a great time! I really enjoyed visiting the fresh seafood display to pick out the fish, which was prepared simply and tasted wonderful. The team of staff were very knowledgeable and attentive the entire night; they even picked up on the fact that it was my boyfriend's birthday and brought a candle in our dessert without my asking. For a truly exceptional dining experience, I highly recommend Kellari Taverna!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWas I in DC or in the Greek IslandsKellari Taverna makes the short list of Greek Restaurants that actually make you feel like you really are eating in a greek taverna. The fresh fish is on ice for you to choose and then perfectly prepared - just like you would expect to get in the greek islands. When you add together the large authentic greek menu offerings, the greek music, friendly staff, and reasonable prices you have the perfect place to dine in either Washington DC or New York City.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMa bit too pricy but overalla bit too pricy but overall is a nice place to eat. has some specialty foods which are very nice. is worth trying. may go back again for a special occasion. not a regular lunch spot.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMthe waiters are unbelieveablythe waiters are unbelieveably enthusiastic, and quite articulate re their offerings. It was fun to walk up to the fish display, and be able to pick the actual fish you wanted to eat for dinner4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed this restaurant.Really enjoyed this restaurant. Went on for our wedding anniversary. The server gave us complimentary champagne. I enjoyed the dinner fix menu: Kellari Salad which includes Baby Arugula, grilled Halumi(cheese), and Fig Balsamic and for main course I enjoyed Lavraki
Grilled whole Mediterranean Bass with steamed Wild Greens. They have great fresh fish to pick from. For desert we shared a trio of Baklava, Galatoboureko and my favorite Greek Yogurt Sour cherry preserves, wild flower honey and toasted walnuts (in honor of the Cherry Blossoms). They have complimentary Greek cookies at the door (for appetizer or dessert). That is a very special touch! Very nice restaurant, we would eat there again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA "Cut Above" Most OthersThe welcome is warm and friendly. The tables are dressed with white cloths and napkins. The service is amiable and helpful without being intrusive. The wine we wanted was not available so they offered one they felt was similar [which was higher priced] at the lower price of the unavailable one - and they apologized for the empty wine bin which was nice. The food was fresh and well prepared. The business lunch is a good value. If you are going for the first time, get fish as they do it very well. The red snapper was superb. And do try some of the Greek specialties. Even if you have not been a fan of one before, you should try the version here. You may well be won over. Kellari is definitely a "cut above" most others.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Greek grubIf you love fresh grilled fish, this is the place for you. Appetizers we had spanakopita which was really good, also the beet salad which I loved, however next time I will pass on the cheese with honey and bits of apricot baked because that was pretty dry and missing something. For the main course my husband and I shared a whole grilled snapper. It was simple and delicious. The service was also very good so that made up for anything else that was lacking. This was my second time back and based on that experience, I will definitely be back!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent selection of eclecticExcellent selection of eclectic fresh seafoods. This time we went for brunch. Nice brunch with a Greek twist. Accompanied by a jazz ensemble. A very nice time.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food with an emphasisGood food with an emphasis on basic fresh ingrediants.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI had octopus as an appetizer,I had octopus as an appetizer, it's out of this world! Fish is extremely fresh. They are displayed on ice and you are allowed to pick among them. I had the sea bass. It was grilled simply and tasted so wonderful. I had cheese cake for desert. Was almost not going to try this place bcz of the $$$ rating, didn't want to spend too much money, but we thought we'd give it a try... The menu was very enticing...
We were so impressed with elegant dining room when we walked in. We were immediately seated even though we were 30 mins early for our reservation. The food was amazing!!! I loved everything I ate and so did my husband. The service was impeccable! We loved everything do much we returned the next day for brunch!! We were equally impressed in the morning... The unlimited mimosas... Seriously, I couldn't see the bottom of my glass before someone was refilling it!

This might become our go to sea food restaurant.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb Mediterrannean DiningAbsolutely fantastic. Best and freshest fish I have ever eaten.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best of Greek and American FoodThis was just the most recent of several visits to Kellari. The food is consistently good and some very authentically Greek and some modified to appeal to a more cosmopolitan palate. The fish is fresh and prepared in a variety of tasty ways. The best times at Kellari are the 1st Fridays of the month when they have a band and Greek dancing which starts at 8:00. Our non-Greek friends have always said they really enjoy the festive feeling when we go on dance night.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood for the day (crabSeafood for the day (crab with green peas) was excellent. I hope the restaurant make it a regular menu.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis isn't your stereotypicalThis isn't your stereotypical Greek/Mediterranean resturant. Specializing in Seafood and Fish, you will find some specialized dishes on this menu. The appetizers are also different than the usual fare, with a fanastic warm goat cheese and honey appetizer that you could eat every day of your life! At the waiter's recommendation we tried the Char Grilled Octopus which was really delicious.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLove itI always have an excellent meal at Kellari Taverna. The servers are always attentive.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent, althoughThe food was excellent, although a bit pricey. We mentioned we were celebrating some birthdays and got the red carpet treatment, which was very sweet. They brought out a dessert platter with candles and after dinner drinks on the house!2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGive your review a title (optional)Again, Kellari Taverna lives up to expectations. The pea soup with vegan base was very flavorful. Salmon with asparagus outstanding as well.
Of the two sorbets, the pistachio was outstandingly rich. The other one, which I am told was a species of vanilla, was not to my taste at all.2/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding retsina by theOutstanding retsina by the glass, great fish preparations, good service -11/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
