  • "The best Greek salad I have ever eaten and I've been to Greece! The food is so fresh, the fish is delicious, the desserts are amazing!"

  • "The wait staff was semi attentive, they 'forgot' one meal.....the waiter did a terrible job of filleting the whole fish, full of bones. Very sub-standard, and unfortunately not worth the money. Too bad, downtown Kellari is super."

  • "This is a great midtown location for lunch. The prices are moderate, but you get what you pay for. I had a salad with dressing that tasted like it came out of a bottle and salmon with vegetables that looked and tasted like they had been cooked yesterday."

  • "We loved this restaurant, but on this visit we were very disappointed. The service was not good. Our waiter never checked on us, never asked if we wanted coffee, and just seemed disgruntled. I ordered lamb chops and they were so little they could not even be cooked rare. All in all it was a disappointing experience."

  • "Our waiter (and the whole wait-staff) was terrific. Fantastic pre-therater dinner."

  • "I enjoy Kellari Taverna. They have a great variety of food which is very well prepared. I went with a friend for dinner and it happened to be the beginning of restaurant week, so we ordered from that menu. Both of our meals were delicious. The greek salad was wonderful - cut up pieces of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and feta with lots of olives and a great dressing. The Boston Cod that I had was amazing - wonderfully cooked and seasoned and just the right amount of sides with it. Desert was also delicious - Baklava that was a little different than the norm, but still wonderful. My problems came with the other parts of our experience. The restaurant is extremely noisy, and on this particular night, the AC was almost non-existent."

  • "We have enjoyed our experience at this restaurant several times, but not this night. Our relatives from the UK were visiting and we chose this restaurant because of the food. It was busy at 6:15 which is not unusual, but I asked for a table away from the bar or where it would be less noisy because of one of the guests' hearing problem. They insisted the table they gave us would be quieter; not the case! After our order was taken and the bottle of wine delivered, the appetizers arrived immediately. Strange timing. But well over 1/2 hour later we still hadn't received entrees and the waiter seemed AWOL. Finally asked another waiter to find him and bring the bill. Food great, service put a damper on it."

  • "I've been to this restaurant many times - food is good - aesthetically very pleasing - but at lunch weekdays not conducive to business."

  • "My birthday happened to fall on the first day of Restaurant Week, 7/21, and the place was bustling. The food was delicious and the service was extremely solicitous, especially as my son had told our waitress that it was my birthday. I'm just very glad they did not come and sing Happy Birthday when they brought my dessert with the candle on it! That would have been embarrassing, as I'm not a kid, but 80!!! We had just come back from a trip to Greece to celebrate my birthday and this was the ultimate culmination...loved it! This was my fourth time at Kellari Taverna, but it definitely will not be my last! I especially love the "melomakaronia", which are delicious!"

  • "Dinner during Restaurant Week. Food very good, service poor, slow, seemed to have no interest. Not ofquestion of being overwhelmed. Better sup[ervision needed!"

  • "We have been going to Kellari Taverna for several years. Recently the service has been AWFUL! The food is very good, and very fresh. Our orders were not taken for at least 10 minutes. We asked for more bread, and water refills which took a long time to receive. A person in our party ordered a fish on the menu. The waiter came back and said they ran out of the fish ordered. He ordered another fish. The waiter came back and said they were out of that fish, too, and then claimed he only had fish for two! Perhaps people should be told what is and is not available on the menu when the menu is handed out. This whole incident took about a half an hour, and this was the pattern for the rest of the meal."

  • "Great for brunch and dinner! This is my go to place for first dates. Great food, wine and outstanding service. Always makes a great first impression!"

  • "Perhaps we expected too much, but for a restaurant of this class, it was a little disappointing. We had the tasting menu. Wine pairings were great. Menu was created. We liked the stuffed calamari best, and the sword fish was cooked perfect! The coffee was, however, so weak it was like dish water. We were also charged for 2 coffees instead just one we order. Our server kept changing, and at times, hard to get the attention of any of them. Perhaps it was because we took a late seating (9:30). In any event, it was a good evening, but we expected a better one."

  • " Our meals were delicious (three of us) and the staff extremely hospitable and nice. They helped us celebrate a family birthday. Still, our daughter couldn't eat her charcoal broiled sole; it was way too dry and wooden. We loved the vegetable chips. Very good mohitos."

  • "We went to Kellari on a Thursday evening for a birthday dinner; we had requested a quiet table. The area we wanted was booked with a large, loud 50 person group, so the maitre d offered us choices for next best. The table we chose was very pleasant, though the noise level was very high until later when the group left. We were also given complementary champagne, which was very kind. The service was somewhat slow at the beginning, though it improved and the waitstaff were attentive and accommodating. The food was excellent - fresh, interesting, well-prepared and tasty. We've been there before and have always enjoyed our dinner. Our friends liked it as well."

  • "went for a very late lunch when restaurant was pretty empty (thou bar was busy). really fresh and excellent salmon tartar grilled fish -- a steal on prixe fixe. service was slow though. would come back."

  • "The pre-theater (or post for matinees) special menu from 4pm-7pm is a winner. Many choices of appetizers and entrees (the bronzino for my wife, the lamb chops [$5 extra] for me - both perfectly done and nicely presented. Add delicious bread, complementary hummus, olives and radishes, an extensive and reasonably-priced wine list by the glass (most $11-13), and excellent service, and it was a wonderful meal. To add a delicious dessert cost a few bucks more, and the portions are large enough to share. Convenient to most theaters, spacious enough for both large groups and intimate dining, with a large bar that offers olives, cheese and bread to keep you fortified while drinking and waiting for a table, it should appeal to all theater-goers ."

  • "Took Clients and won't do it again. They were out of more than six fish dishes and it took 30 minutes to get our waitress to bring a check. What happened to this restaurant?"

  • "The food is very good and the staff is very welcoming."

  • "I had the pre theatre dinner and it was quite good for the money. The noise level was quite loud but I think they had a large party."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "It is a professional yet comfortable approach to food and wine. It runs the gamut from prix fixe for theater goers to just short of 'breaking the dishes' Greek food! It sterling reputation is deserved (and earned)!"
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "They run a tight ship - everyone knows what they are doing, are friendly and professional. They go the extra mile. Pre-theatre dinner a great bargain. The bar, with free cheese and olives, is great, especially if you're waiting for your dinner guest to join you."

  • "We had another great meal before the theater. The flavors are wonderful , and the food tastes so fresh. The service was great. Kellari Taverna never fails to disappoint!"

  • "We are regulars at Kellari Taverna. Close your eyes and you can be at restaurant in Greece dipping your pita into the various delightful spreads, eating the olives and then enjoying the great selection of fresh fish simply broiled ."

  • "Tops for the "east" Theatre District, especially for their wide variety of fish, prepared any way you like!"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "One of my top ten worst entrees (the grilled chicken with vegetables) in New York ever. Spanikopita to start was great ( though a bit undercooked underneath - some raw philo), but couldn't have been less impressed with the chicken which was bland and oily. The vegetables were so sad and limp, and they were also bland. They must have come from a can. Really a disappointing meal, bringing me to write my first ever review of a restaurant on any website."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "Pre fixe has excellent selection; portions just right. Restaurant ambiance is a real draw, tables spaced nicely. Always satisfying if you're entertaining guests or bringing someone for the first time."

  • "Food was great and the service was great. We will be back with friends."

  • "I went with a friend of mine to New York for his birthday for a Broadway show, and we wanted a nice place to kick off the night. Although the area where the fresh fish were located was pretty stinky to me (I'm a vegetarian and fish smell just doesn't do it for me), we were moved and that solved that problem. I was not impressed with the saganaki (it was just a pool of melted cheese) or the spanakopita (the filo was not very flaky at all), but apparently the lamb was juicy and delicious. I will go there again if I am in town again, but I will just pick other vegetarian options (there were plenty). We absolutely loved our Greek wine! And although we thought our server was a little aggressive, he was definitely friendly and knowledgeable."
