A word from Kefi
Chef Michael Psilakis and partner Donatella Arpaia have moved their rustic Greek gem, Kefi, to a larger space at 505 Columbus Avenue. The new, 200-seat interior evokes the feeling of a palatial Greek hideaway broken up into several smaller dining rooms to keep Kefi’s intimate appeal.

The menu of favorites straight from Psilakis’ childhood will remain the same with some new additions. Signature dishes like Baccala, crispy-fried cod with garlic potatoes and tomato, Grilled Octopus with bean salad, and Hilopita, baked pasta with rabbit ragout and béchamel are still on offer. Additions include Grilled Sardines with chopped “Greek Salad” and garlic sauce, Macaronia Spestofai, tubular pasta with Greek sausage, peppers, onions, tomato and feta and an entirely new section of Greek Sandwiches featuring house-made sausages and pork and lamb gyro. Diner Reviews
  • "I was part of a family of 3. We all loved everything we ate. Would definitely go back."

  • "The food was average - Our waiter was friendly and very efficient. Would recommend for a group as the service was quick and pleasant."

  • "This was my 2nd time going to Kefi with my wife, and it never fails to disappoint. We ordered the Crispy Calamari and Grilled Octopus & Bean Salad for appetizers, and Hanger Steak and Sheep Milk Dumplings for entrees. Suffice to say, we ended up stuffed and satisfied. The service was on point. They refilled our water bottle every so often. The atmosphere was energetic. Overall, it was an excellent experience as usual. A++"

  • "Kefi is an almost perfect restaurant for me - the food was amazing, the scene was bustling, prices reasonable, but I was still able to get a Sat night reservation the day before. Our server was a bit inattentive (we got our apps before our cocktails, had to ask for the bread, and waited awhile for the check) but other tables around us were getting fine service. All in, we would go back and we would take friends there."

  • "It was a fun place with an energetic atmosphere. Food was great. Meatballs seasoned very well. Mixed grill was excellent and done to perfection. With not knowing what to expect, it was a great surprise. We will be going back!"

  • "The food was good, but it was loud and warm, never a good combination. Two of us ordered different kinds of beer and they were both warm. The servers brought the wrong food twice. Other than that it was great!"
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "The food was ok, but not great. The wait staff was friendly, but the bus staff needs more training. They are constantly grabbing plates from the table if you are finished with your meal, making you feel hurried and unwelcome."

  • "so go for lunch. The mussels are great and the salads excellent."

  • "air conditioning was on way too high--i was freezing and kept asking them to lower it but i didn't notice any change so it was a little uncomfortable. food was delicious and i probably would have stayed longer and eaten more if it hadn't been so freezing."

  • "Consistently great & affordable Greek food. It gets better every year! Inventive, tasty salads and entrees as well as traditional, straight-forward Greek dishes that don't miss. And absolutely the MOST tender, melt-in-your-mouth grill octopus I've ever had."

  • "DELICIOUS and affordable Greek food. So glad I finally tried this place, I'll definitely be coming back"

  • "our first visit since the re-opening. food was better than ever. all four fish main dishes were great. had the butterflied branzini. look forward to our next visit."

  • "The food was as great as ever, but the service was ridiculously rushed. Our appetizers were served within 3 minutes of placing the order. The main entrees came out immediately after our appetizer plates were cleared. Thought the food is terrific, I felt as though we were in a fast food restaurant."

  • "The servers accommodated us by placing us on the first floor by request (we had a girl with a broken ankle). The food arrived very promptly, and in very decent portions. The flavors were beautiful, we loved every bit. The waitress was very attentive as well."

  • "Loved it before they closed for renovations and still love it! Will keep coming back!"

  • "My husband and I have been going to Kefi for years and it never disappoints. The braised rabbit is one of my husband's favorite dishes of all time. Great quality at a reasonable price."

  • "I took my parents here based upon online reviews and they were really happy to learn of this neighborhood treat. The rabbit and flat pasta was amazing, the lamb chops were tender, and the seafood was delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone. P.S. Gents, I saw quite a few dates at Kefi, so add it to your list."

  • "Food at Kefi is great: branzino is flaky and flavorful; shrimp in the orzo are giant and succulent . Service can be choppy."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "Loved the seafood. Fresh and well prepared. I've seldom had octopus that tender. If you are looking for uber-thought out sauces with hints and touches of everything, go somewhere else. If good quality, fresh food prepared beautifully, cooked correctly and is just delicious is what you want, you are in the right place."

  • "This was a good find in the UWS neighbourhood. We enjoyed the food very, very much. I liked the antipasti. We ordered octopus and pork. The lamb was good too but not the best that I've tried. Fish was amazing. I wanna try the lamb skillet when I go back."

  • "This is our favorite UWS restaurant! I wrote another review last month, but on the heels of yet another WONDERFUL meal and amazing service, I just had to shout out again that KEFI is terrific and 'Rocks'. It just keeps getting better and better. You won't be disappointed."

  • "Always a great meal at reasonable prices...had the spread appetizer, sea bass, raviolis and pappardelle pasta... all delicious."

  • "Some of the best Greek food I've had in recent memory at quite reasonable prices. The service is competent and friendly. The restaurant is needlessly noisy due to tile-lined walls but it's not unbearable."

  • "The food would qualify as what passes in Athens (Greece) as Greek food for tourists. So this is not a place to taste well-prepared Greek food ("authentic," experimental," or any sort of "fusion"). Definitely not a place for foodies. Good for groups, though, who care more about the company than the food. The service was good."

  • "the server was very helpful, the food was delicious. We shared a variety of appetizers and the branzini was fantastic. great restaurant with good prices. they also have a downstairs area where you can have parties or big groups."

  • "It's like having simple but great Greek food erratically served on the IRT. Deafening ambiance, distracted waiters, but good cooking if you can take the din with your dinner."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "The food and drinks were fabulous, as always. Our appetizers (the wonderful spreads and octopus) came out very quickly so my husband asked the waitress to slow the meal down. Before we even finished the appetizers, someone came out of the kitchen with our dinners. We sent them back. In the next minute, they cleared our appetizers and tried to deliver the same plates again. We sent them back again. Called the waitress over and told her to wait at least 10-15 minutes and re-fire the dishes. She finally got the point. Next time I wouldn't order everything at once unless they prove to me they can slow it down cause it makes you annoyed and harder to enjoy their really really good food! Drinks are fun too."

  • "I came here with my family and loved it. The food was very healthy with options to have gluten free bread. The kids menu was great - all healthy (no deep fried nuggets etc). We loved our meals snd will be back!"

  • "Everything about our dining experience at Kefi was awesome. I had bronzino…whole fish, simply grilled,….superb Will surely return."

  • "The rare upper west side eatery which is affordable for the whole family. You can get everything from a salad to a sandwich to full meal, with most entrees under $20. Kid-friendly items like mac & cheese are included. The place is huge, with another whole floor of seating beneath the main floor. It's not "haute cuisine" by any stretch--they use iceberg lettuce for salads, e.g.--but, for the price, it's fine."

  • "Kefi has been consistently good for years, and they don't mess with a good thing."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "Everything on the menu is a taste treat. The octopus is mouth watering. Kefi is a gem in the Upper West Side"
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "I have not been here for a while and my experience was very different from when I was here a year or more ago. The tables are crammed so close together it is extremely uncomfortable and very noisy. Another annoyance, a pet peeve of mine, is that I reserved a table, confirmed it with them and yet was asked to wait until 'the rest of my party', i.e. one other person, arrived before they would seat me. Probably won't be back. It's a shame because I used to love it."

  • "The Branzono was very good, the Greek pasta was not gopf . My fault for offering Italian in a Greek resaurant"

  • "Keffi was one of my favorites greek in NYC , but las 2 times has being deceiving . Very bad service and the food is not helping. The only thing is that is inexpensive"
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "I love good food and good restaurants, but Kefi is not one. My strongest suggestion, if you still want to try it, is to sit upstairs. Downstairs has no vibe, except of one where they herd in their guests, feed them poorly seasoned food, and get them out. It took nearly an hour to get our appetizers, then we were informed they were out of the dumplings (the reason we went there), and another long wait for good quality lamb chops, ruined from under seasoning and over-grilling. The huge party of tour groups way in the back seemed to be having fun... But we didn't."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Tee food is excellent and the prices very reasonable for NYC standards. The location is very vribant in Columbus Ave. I tried the beer from Cyprus "Keo" for the first time and liked it very much. Will definitely visit again in the near future."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We had a wonderful meal (the cypriot sausage is superb) and great drinks the issue was that our appetizers came fairly quickly and then we had an hour and 20 minute wait for our mains, I think we just happened to have walked in and landed right after a huge rush. They were incredibly courteous and knocked all our drinks and deserts of the tab as recompense, but it still was not ideal."

  • "Kefi is always consistent, great food, terrific Greek wines! The meatballs are so delicious and the Branzino...always outstanding! If you want fresh, delicious fish, Kefi is your go-to place. For dessert, the Greek yogurt with honey and fruit transports you back to Santorini! Soooo happy you are back after a too long absence. A neighborhood gem!"
