A word from Kefi
Chef Michael Psilakis and partner Donatella Arpaia have moved their rustic Greek gem, Kefi, to a larger space at 505 Columbus Avenue. The new, 200-seat interior evokes the feeling of a palatial Greek hideaway broken up into several smaller dining rooms to keep Kefi’s intimate appeal.

The menu of favorites straight from Psilakis’ childhood will remain the same with some new additions. Signature dishes like Baccala, crispy-fried cod with garlic potatoes and tomato, Grilled Octopus with bean salad, and Hilopita, baked pasta with rabbit ragout and béchamel are still on offer. Additions include Grilled Sardines with chopped “Greek Salad” and garlic sauce, Macaronia Spestofai, tubular pasta with Greek sausage, peppers, onions, tomato and feta and an entirely new section of Greek Sandwiches featuring house-made sausages and pork and lamb gyro.

No complaints, food and service were great. The upper part of the restaurant can get pretty loud, but the lower part is much better if you're trying to have a convo. Lovely spot overall.

They were able to seat us early and their coffee was fit for an officianado. Our server, Costas was attentive and made great recommendations. My husband chose the lamb shank and was pleased with it and when I tasted it...delicious. My guest and I ordered "Michael's lamb burger"...the best lamb burger I've had in a long time.

Odd lay out. Sports bar in the front then small dining area then downstairs another dining area. Food is good but the sports bar feel continues in the next room. Great for loud groups/big families but not to catch up with friends.

We don't live in this neighborhood but needed to be here to attend a meeting. We found this Grrek restaurant and both ordered a Dinner sized Greek salad with chicken and dolmades. The service was excellent and the salad was plentiful and tasty. I would definitely go back to try something else.

Even after making a reservation online, we waited at least 30 minutes for a table. Was interested in the restaurant because they had gluten free options, however the gluten free pita bread was rock hard in most parts with some edges being soft.

We had a delicious, fresh meal at Kefi with some suprisingly unusual cocktails- I especially enjoyed the one made with cucumber. For dinner, our waitress made several wonderful recommendations. She was delightful and very attentive. My daughter and I loved the octopus and the gnocchi with lamb sausage was clearly the chef's specialty. It was absolutely delicious and very unique. Not your usual greek salad joint... definitely a step up with great pricing.

Mussels & Gigantes Feta served with gigantes beans and feta cheese is a wonderful appetizer! So delicious! The Branzino is a standard for other Branzino- so flavorful- and love the potatoes with it! I have never had a bad meal here. Usually with excellent service! But the noise level is high- especially as the night progresses. It is hard to hear your table mates. There is an 'early bird special' before 6:00- a great deal and it is quieter. Love it!

the food is excellent, however the service everytime we go is inconsistent. During our last visit every table around us received a bread basket and when my husband asked for one from our waiter he seemed confused, eventually one was brought to us. Our waiter also never came back to check on us after he took our order. We come here for the great food, the service is just OK - nothing special.

Food was up to its usual high quality, but the lapses in service were the worst in our collective recent dining experiences. After waiting half an hour to be told that our wine selection was out of stock, we waited another 20 minutes for our appetizers. Entrees arrived almost on top of the appetizers (& we had to fight to hold onto these) with the the bottle of wine arriving somewhere in the midst. If the company, and to be fair, the food itself, weren't so good, this would have been a terrible night out.

Food and wine were good, but service was terrible. We felt "rushed" during the meal and definitely hurried out. (Entrees were brought too soon and our appetizers, which we were still working on, were prematurely whisked away. Mid-way through coffee the check was delivered. No offer of more coffee. Just immediately clearing away all the dishes.) Also - when our waiter didn't know answers to basic menu questions, he thought the explanation that he was new to restaurant would suffice. We had to insist that he return to the kitchen to find out the information. Finally, table was too small -- uncomfortably crowded with all the dishes. Waiters made no effort to remove unnecessary dishes, or consolidate items to make us more comfortable.

I ate here around 5 or 6 years ago. I thought the food was nice and suggested having dinner at Kefi with friends. I was completely unimpressed. The taramasalata was so salty I could barely eat it. My friend ordered a pasta dish with shrimp, not something I would order but still, and had one or two bites and left the rest. I had a burger which was actually good. However it was served with a side salad, somewhat Greek in nature, that was pretty bad. The lettuce was shredded and soggy with dressing and just not very good.

i've been to kefi multiple times and the freshness and taste of the food never disappoints. i always get the octopus and chick pea salad which is so tender and flavorful. i also get a grilled dish, either the whole fish or some meat. again, the simplicity of the preparation doesn't take away from the flavor.

Kefi has come back, food is great, however, service is not on the mark. They are constantly rushing you all the time: rushing you to order, bringing entrees out often before you have even eaten half of your appetizer. I understand part of the Kefi model that keeps prices reasonable, and they definitely are reasonable, is high table turnover. BUT, KEFI, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP THIS TO A REASONABLE LEVEL!! What I mean, is though I don't expect to lounge around for a 2.5 hour dinner at Kefi, it also should not be like the luncheon express treatment you get in midtown. Diners should have a reasonable time to order, and eat their food, without other courses coming or constantly being badgered by the wait staff to "hurry up and order". DO BETTER!!

Even though the dining room is long, with another floor downstairs, the feel of Kefi is friendly and tucked in. The lamb pasta dinner special, "Gogle Pasta," was perfectly savory. The spreads appetizer was a let down, since the server dropped one of the pita breads into our water glass and didn't replace it, and because the eggplant had zero flavor. The lamb chops were also very delicious. I will definitely go back to try the other suggested favorites soon.

Kefi serves creative Greek cuisine in a relaxed, casual setting. The small plates are the strong point; one after the other was delicious, and suited to sharing. Four of us ordered and shared Yayia's Meatballs, Grilled Octopus, Salt Cod, Combination Spreads, and a special bulgar wheat salad with more interesting things in it than I can remember. After that, two "mains" to share; both were good, but not as impressive. Next time, I suspect that we will order more small plates and have Greek "tapas." But there will certainly be a next time. Two hiccups to fix: The red wine was far too warm; we had to put it on ice to cool it down. And our waiter, who was generally nice and helpful, pushed to hard to get us to order wine immediately.

This time two of us sprung for the prix fix early dinner menu. Meatballs and mussels appetizers were wonderful. The branzino and potatoes is very special, and what a bargain! The third person is vegan, and the veggies were off the charts good. Try the cauliflower. It is a beautiful surprise. Other times I go for the octopus, or sweetbreads appetizers. Through my reservation with open table, I asked for a quiet table since someone in my party was hard of hearing. They seated us downstairs at a roomy table in the back. We were near a private party, and a larger group of diners, but our meal was not disturbed because of the good acoustics. Our waiter and the rest of the staff were very attentive. The food was delicious. My only regret was that we did not try more appetizers because of big lunches earlier in the day. I will definitely come back.

My westsider friend enthusiastically recommended Kefi. I was not as impressed. The Cypriot salad was delicious but that's the only rave I can offer. My chicken souvlaki was fairly tasteless. The bread was hard and we had to ask twice for olive oil for the bread. The noise level on the street level was over the top - happily we were seated downstairs which was quieter.

The food was incredible. Nice ambiance but can be noisy by the front door. The waiter was good until we paid the check and he crassly told us "I have to go tend to my table".Just a minute after we paid the bill, I guess we were chop liver after he got his tip and we were very generous. Some people have no class and he showed his true colors after we ordered 4 appetizers and a couple entrees for two, plus wine. Not cool!

The price was reasonable and everyone walked away full and happy. The mussel appetizer and beet salad was excellent as were the YiaYia meatballs. Shrimp Risotto and the BFT sandwich were big hits as well. The bread and pita were not quite up to par in our opinion but everything else was great.
