Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant has great food and terrific service. I have visited at least 5 times and it is always a wonderful experience."

  • "The food was fantastic. I had the hanger steak and the flavor was incredible. My son had Sushi and ranked among the best he has ever had. My only complaint would be that it was very noisy inside which made conversation a bit difficult. I found myself raising my voice often to be heard. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. It elevates Japanese fare to a higher level."

  • "Hostess claimed we had asked for a seat at the bar and would not change it. Of course we did not want to sit in their bar, we wanted a real table in a restaurant, not a table in the beer smelling bar. I suspect this restaurant stuck us here because we made the reservation on Open Table. This is the first time it has happened so perhaps something changed but this was my experience."

  • "The food was good, the service was excellent and the outdoor patio was delightful. The cocktails were wonderful. We definitely will put this on our "revisit" list."

  • "the lunch menu is wonderful. we ordered enough to share from the menu so we all got to try almost the entire menu- which was recommended by our waiter. great service great space. very accommodating staff."

  • "I had read several positive reviews of this restaurant, so decided to give it a try for my wife's birthday. We made an early reservation, so it was pretty quiet when we first sat down, but the energy level picked up as the evening commenced. It never reached a volume that made conversation difficult though. The cocktail selection was good, the server was prompt and very informative about the sushi selections, and the manager came to the table immediately to let us know that they are willing and able to make any kind of variation on the sushi that we might want. They enjoy creativity. The edamame appetizer and Kaze salad were both excellent, and we tried several varieties of sushi. The portion sizes were perfect. Would highly recommend."

  • "Service was spotty. When I asked for an after-dinner coffee, not only did it take forever to arrive, it was terrible. Entrees were good, but shrimp skewer appetizer was just OK, and dessert wasn't anything special, Something we could make at home."

  • "This was my third time dining here but my husband's first. Both times prior I had pretty stellar service but this time fell far short. Our server really seemed to have cared less about his job or about how we were doing and how our food was. The sushi of course was the star of the night and we couldn't have been happier with our choices on that. Hopefully the server was just having a bad day and this isn't how the service is all the time now."

  • "We found everything at KaZe to be excellent. My husband really enjoyed his sushi and soup, and we both had the black cod, which was excellent. The dessert was also outstanding. We will be returning and recommending KaZe to friends."

  • "KAZE is an amazing little jewel in the foodie district in OTR. It's ambiance is trendy and vibrant and a great place for a date or putting with friends that doesn't require complete intimacy. Each time I have dined here the host station hasn't been more than accommodating with dining time requests. Their wine list is amazing! Don't be afraid of the French Malbec it's to die for... And their version if a Moscow Mule is perfectly made and has a hint of elder flower. A few musts: scallops, pork buns, veggie ramen soup, dragon/crunch/OTR sushi rolls"

  • "I've been to Kaze before but selected it this time since I could get a reservation at the time needed. We were attending a play at 8 and our reservation was at 6. We were promptly seated and our server was very attentive. She knew the menu well and made great suggestions. Our party of 4 each ordered a different dish and all were well prepared and everyone was satisfied. We were finished by 7:15 with plenty of time to relax a bit before heading to the play"

  • "This was my 8th or 9th trip. I keep coming back, bringing new people to experience Kaze. Ask for Brittany, if you can get her. She's an amazing server who has great suggestions. She knows the menu! Order the pork buns. From there, explore. I love the ramen and the OTR roll. I will keep coming back."

  • "What an exceptional experience. This was our second visit - and it did not disappoint. Food that is interesting, creative and surprises the pallet - amazing service, attention to detail (the server took our coats and called for our car) -- Absolutely exceptional."

  • "What a surprise --- a fantastic restaurant in the OTR area that takes reservations (particularly important on a Friday evening when you are going to the theatre). Food was way beyond expectations. Service was attentive and informative. Very nice atmosphere and noise level that allows for conversation without shouting. Sashimi was excellent. Pre-theatre bento box was a treat. Would definitely return to Kaze."

  • "Even at 9pm, Kaze was hopping on a Saturday night. You walk in and have to shout to be heard. Once seated, we were able to converse, but it is a very energetic rather than relaxing dining experience. The food was excellent, with different combinations of flavors. I would definitely go back, but I would not bring anyone who was hard of hearing or looking for a relaxing dinner out."

  • "Went with my wife and had a great time. Another great young OTR location with some unique eats. We split some pork buns that were awesome. Then shared some of the Kobe beef sliders. They had a wasabi flavor that gave it a whole new dimension. Sushi was great and fresh. Service was pleasent and quick. atmosphere was modern without going over the top. Just a nice, chill place to get a great unique meal. Definetly going back!"

  • "Centrally located in downtown Cincinnati in a nice commercial area with lots of shopping and dinning. The restaurant itself is stylish as well. It has high ceilings with an airy ambiance and lots of windows. Although it was not strictly speaking "authentic" Japanese food, it was very tasty. The dishes have been modified for American tastes. They have daily lunch specials. We went on Saturday and the sushi dishes were half price. They also had an excellent beer list including craft beers. My friend had a nice wheat beer and I had a Left Hand Brewery Nitro Milk Stout, one of the best stouts I've encountered."

  • "I love the really interesting food. Salads always dressed perfectly. Only restaurant in the city that I am aware of that has black cod on the menu - delicious."

  • "Overall, a great dining experience. Great sushi and I loved the Cincinnati mimosa - our waiter, Mark, was friendly and knowledgeable. I will certainly be back."

  • "Been at the restarant before, this time same outstanding food but unfortunately had a server that was inattentive, either made an error in the bill or just padded it , not apologetic."

  • "Fun place to eat before symphony and the food was Yummy and beautiful. We shared several dishes including scallop sushi and halibut."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "The pork belly buns were excellent, as were the sea scallops. The sushi had very interesting flavor combinations that were a "cut above". I wish the noise level had been a little less, as it was too loud for a pleasant dinner conversation. A fun place to enjoy with friends, but too loud to conduct business (and we went on a Wednesday night)."

  • "I went here on a weekday for a simple lunch and ended up in the restaurant for over an hour. Our server was nowhere to be found on multiple occasions, the food was not impressive, and the servings were skimpy at best. For almost $20 a head, I expect more."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "We had a friendly and fun waiter who made the experience great. The food was outstanding. Difficult to converse due to the noise level."

  • "I was anxious to try KaZe after reading the article Cincinnati mag. There were 3 of us in the party. All 3 of us were underwhelmed. the service left so much to be desired. The server was too enthusiastic and our entrees were brought out while we just beginning our salads. I did say something about this error. the food was just OK. I was given a free dish of ice cream to make up for some of the disappointment."

  • "A coworker and I went to KaZe for lunch, and at noon, the restaurant was mostly empty, which seemed odd. We arrived at 12:05, were immediately seated, and then our "experience" began. We watched for nearly twenty minutes while other tables were filled and orders were taken. A waiter never came, and my coworker had to step out to take a call. I sat for another ten minutes, and finally checked with the hostess to see whether a waiter for our table actually existed. She apologized, and a few minutes later an apologetic manager appeared with water. It was another five minutes before the waiter came to take our order. I was hoping the food would compensate for the ridiculous wait, but unfortunately it was only okay. I won't return."

  • "Food was mixed...vegetable pancake needs more flavor and more vegetables..brisket buns fabulous...octopus salad great...sushi ok...we were brought the wrong sushi roll but didn't realize it until we were half way thru...waiter could have checked in more often..."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday. The restaurant was my recommendation from a prior trip there. The others in my party had not been there before. They all loved it!"
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "The overall ambience / feel / service was great, which I feel has come to be expected in OTR. Unfortunately the sushi doesn't stand up to the rest of the experience. I really should have looked behind the sushi bar before ordering. There is no way any of the chefs have been making sushi for longer than KaZe has been open. I'm sorry, but they need to hire an actual sushi chef. I've eaten at almost all the various sushi places throughout Cincinnati (and I've had sushi on both coasts). KaZe's sushi does not even crack the top 10 in Cincinnati. Not only that, the rolls were also some of the most expensive in the city. We did end up ordering the gnocchi which was actually pretty good-- but we were there for the sushi. Overall very disappointed."

  • "Hot spot, great food and service. Pricey but well worth it"

  • "We had reservations (odd for OTR) but had to wait anyway. It was so loud and crowded that it was uncomfortable to just be in the place (like most establishments in OTR) Our server had too many tables so she did not check in with us except to take the order and deliver food. We ordered sushi and it all came out at different times, the last rolls were slammed down on the table by a passing server. The manager was delivering food and working hard, but he wasn't managing. There were about 30 tickets at one time lined up and it was a madhouse! There are many other places in town with similar food and a much more pleasant atmosphere."

  • "Loved the atmosphere and the menu. Such great selections, and interesting choices. The waiter was fantastic; I loved the feel of the restaurant. The food was absolutely perfect. I ordered the black cod, and it is probably one of the most perfectly prepared dishes I have ever had."

  • "As a recommendation from my son, we made reservations at KaZe and we're not disappointed one bit! Staff was super friendly and the food was excellent. The pork belly buns were a delicious start to what continued to be a great meal. We will be back for sure!"

  • "Excellent service and food, extensive beer and drink list, valet parking, guided tour of the facility, great night! Will definitely be back with a group."

  • "We did not realize the HH was in the separate bar only and was disappointed by the prices. It seemed all of the sushi rolls were cooked which is surprising for a "good" Japanese restaurant."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "We are regular Sushi eaters and it was our first visit to Kaze.. We were Very disappointed in the sushi at Kaze. The sushi rolls were virtually all rice with little sushi in them. Sashimi was cut very thin. Definitely paying for the hip atmosphere as opposed to the food. Would not go back. Emailed the restaurant about our experience and never heard back."
