Diner Reviews
  • "It was my second time dining at Kaya. I loved everything about my meal. The salmon was prepared perfectly. Our server Tom, was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive to our needs throughout the meal. Dessert was wonderful...best sorbet I ever had. Prior to dinner we had several cocktails which were reminiscent of my trip to the Florida Keys."

  • "The Fish Tacos & red Sangria are 5 star rating. Maybe the best I've ever had! Everything else was .. ok. Seated at a really awkward table where one person was in the walkway and I was hitting the person behind me. Server was so nice but it was slow to get our apps, about 20 minutes, not exaggerating. Ribs were eh, sauce was good. I thought the rice on the Paella would have been AMAZING for the price but it had no flavor. Conch Friters were good but seemed burnt. The decor was less Caribbean, chic, relaxed and more dark, tacky, college frat theme party.. Looked like a dive bar with some decorations. Dining in PGH now offers so many dining EXPERIENCES, its disappointing spending $100 for anything less. :/"

  • "My husband and I go to Kaya a couple of times a year. We love fried chicken Thursdays! My husband ordered the fried chicken, and there was plenty to share with my vegetable paella. Yummy!"

  • "It has become tradition to visit Kaya a couple of times per year for a sister's night out. It never disappoints. I like that they keep some of my favorites but change some of the other menu items periodically. The grouper was excellent and the Tempura Avocado Bahn Mi Tacos & mussels were quite tasty. The graduate was a nice, refreshing summer cocktail and you can't beat the Aztec Chocolate Martini!! Best chocolate martini I have ever had hands down."

  • "The service and food was very good. My family ordered fried chicken and waffles for brunch. They really enjoyed everything."

  • "Really Fun. I love the service and the Fried Chicken"

  • "The place has a great atmosphere. Nice mix of vegetarian items on the menu. If you are looking for a place to eat on a Thursday night you must go here. They offer a chicken dinner special that is amazing. Fried chicken the way it should be served. It needs to be featured on Food Network. Also a quality drink menu with a cozy bar. A Pittsburgh gem."

  • "The food was spicy and delicious. I got the Tropical Paella and it was filled with mussels, scallops, chicken, and shrimp, mixed with Spanish rice. I'm very pleased with my choice and I would defiantly be going here again."

  • "I go to Kaya a few times a year and always have a great experience. It is always worth getting to for Happy Hour and their somewhat seasonal menu."

  • "The happy hour drink specials are a great buy at 1/2 off. Our server, Megan, was a gem! She was an absolute pleasure - attentive, but not cloying. The food was wonderful. Monica, the GM, always greets me, and today she gave me a hug because she heard it was my birthday. She is one of the reasons we keep coming back!"

  • "Been coming here for years. Food was great, as always. Limited, but well-selected wine list. Great mixed drinks. A nice place for brunch, weekend lunch."

  • "Kaya is good, but not worth the expense. I can find better food for cheaper in Pittsburgh."

  • "What used to be a favorite Thursday tradition, a place to take family or guests for some of the tastiest fried chicken in the city is no longer om our list of go to places. The lukewarm, over-cooked chicken was almost inedible. Unlike the delicious, crispy, generous portion of juicy fried chicken we had enjoyed in past visits, the overly breaded, skimpy serving of chicken was cooked so long (and long ago) that it was tough, barely warm and tasteless. The disappointing food mirrored the tepid service. Outdoor seating apparently meant self service, when as host at a table of 6 I had to approach the hostess to ask if a waiter could be sent to the table where our guests had sat unattended for more than 25 minutes."

  • "This is my go-to birthday place. The food is always outstanding. The tropical cocktails are my summer favorite. Service is great. I suggest reservations, especially during happy hour."

  • "We lucked out and arrived on the night of the vegetarian tasting menu. It was so delicious, especially the mushroom stir fry rice cake. But the tomato avocado salad, zucchini pizza and strawberry angel food dessert were all a close second. Kaya is officially my favorite of the big burrito restaurants. I used my birthday coupon and my family was so glad I picked Kaya. Also really love the Instant Crush cocktail!"

  • "We went to Kaya for my fiance's birthday dinner. The tap beer selection was great, and we got there for the end of Happy Hour (1/2 price drinks) which was a bonus. Our waitress really knew her stuff and recommended some great dishes. It was a fantastic night!"

  • "Moved to the strip district last August and slowly working our way through the restaurant scene in the area. Kaya had good food, good bar selections, music not too loud, friendly staff. Def will go there again"

  • "Trendy spot, amazing food & fabulous mojitos! My new favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. You cant go wrong with any of the restaurants in this group but Kaya is my favorite."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a good meal at Kaya. The food was different and good. The bean dip appetizer was excellent as were our meals. This restaurant is a good find in Pittsburgh."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "The service was attentive and accommodating. The food was quite good. The noise level, however, was so loud that I had to lean over the table to hear my companion. Most of the time I just nodded and smiled. My Flank Steak was done perfectly. The veges and sauce were great. The dumplings were flavorful, but a bit chewy."

  • "Kaya is quickly climbing the ladder as it concerns my favorite places to eat in the city. Kaya doesn't overwhelm you in any category (except maybe for cocktails) but delivers solidly in all categories (although the service is a little uneven at times). The bottom line is if you're looking for a fun, casual meal where the food is executed on a high level and the cocktails are both tropical and sublime (go for 1/2 off happy hour, one of the best deals in town) then Kaya is the place. Afterwards you should be relaxed, well fed, pleasantly surprised by the overall experience (especially if the service issues get ironed out) and perhaps even a little tipsy (all for a reasonable price). I'm already looking forward to my next visit."

  • "Not often that an item "as simple" as salad dressing can draw your attention. That is exactly what happened when enjoying a delicious veggie burger....the dressing on the side salad really made the dish. Fresh, flavor enhanced but still allowed the greens to be the center of attention....almost. "

  • "This is a great alternative to the lines and ordinary fare at DeLuca's and Pamela's. Get a reservation online and enjoy imaginative dishes typically highlighted with pineapples (even the excellent Paella). We also got eggs benedict and an omelet. Everything was excellent."

  • "Food was surprisingly good as well as service. Quite loud though; a lot of people in a small space. Order did not come out as ordered but waitress and restaurant very accommodating to make it right. Tried paella for the first time and it was quite good, although a little pricey ($24). The mojitos were delicious. Our "Girls Nite Out" group definitely plan to go back."

  • "Overall, a great experience for my group of six. We were sad, however, that the kitchen had run out of shrimp before we ordered at 7pm. Otherwise we were happy with the experience and the meal."

  • "My boyfriend and I tried Kaya because he had a birthday coupon from the Big Burrito Group. We had never been before and would definitely go back! The food was amazing. I had the plantains and my boyfriend had the chicken paella. Both dishes were oh so delicious and our server was great! I was pleasantly surprised that it was Caribbean themed food. As always, I love the decorations in all of the Big Burrito group restaurants. The giant octopus on the floor made my night!"

  • "Drinks were fantastic, food was meh. Atmosphere was great, my girl and I could imagine that humid night in the Strip actually being a back alley restaurant in Bridgetown. Not that the food was authentic, we just have really good imaginations."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in pittsburgh! I've never had anything that I didn't like here. Things I would recommend - the seafood paella and fish tacos. "

  • "The Jamaican green curry, though unlike Thai curries, is AMAZING! I'd take it over any Thai place any day. The spices are perfect, lots of different veggies, and the saffron rice works so well with the rest of the dish. Not to mention that the portion is huge! I'd love to try their other vegan-friendly options, but I just love the curry so much that it's hard to stray :) I'll have to start going with more vegetarian friends so we can share the dishes and I can taste them all!"

  • "We had our first experience at this restaurant on a busy Friday evening. The food was well prepared and pleasing to the eye. Our server was just ok, as the server was not very outgoing or willing to make any suggestions, and tended to disappear for long stretches. This may have been a result of the rush of patrons to the restaurant. "

  • "My husband and I regularly go to Kaya on Thursdays for the amazing fried chicken. The spices are amazing, and it's always paired with great sides and dipping sauces. They also have a great rotating beer selection on tap. If you haven't been there on Thursday, you are missing out on life."
