We are staying at St Regis and love this place so were very surprised. Makana Terrace was much more impressive to us thus far. Hope it was just an off night.   • "I ate at Kauai Grill with my sister and brother-in-law for her birthday. While the good was very good, we were all very disappointed the our waiter. He was aloof, did not make eye contact with us for the majority of the meal, and did not check on us much at all. I expect more for a restaurant located inside a St. Regis hotel."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed this restaurant! The ambiance was very nice and romantic. For starters, I ordered the baby romaine salad, which wasn't anything special. My husband had the hamachi sushi, which he claimed was outstanding! For entrees, I had the filet mignon, which is what I normally order, but what made it different here was that they brought four different sauces for the filet. Bernaise is my usual favorite, but the soy-miso mustard wasn't bad either. My husband had the grilled lamb chops, which he totally devoured; unfortunately, the portions were (expectedly) small. For dessert, we shared the warm chocolate cake. Delicious."

  • "Don't mind paying high prices for great food. Kauai Grill has fallen very short for a high priced restaurant. All items are very expensive & ala carte, I don't have to mention the wines. The portions were very small (add a few more dollars to fill up the plate w/ vegetables). The plates were small (in size also), bowls were small (in size) - general feeling is that you are being ripped off for the scenery & name. This restaurant is not close to Josselin's on the island, nor the level of most Napa/Sonoma name restaurants (price/taste wise). Go there for a drink or get appetizers & soak up the absolute gorgeous views!!!"

  • "This Jean-George restaurants is a true gem on the Garden Island. Set in the beautiful St. Regis resort, just the walk to the restaurant sets the tone for your whole dining experience. The hearts of Palm salad was perfectly presented and expertly seasoned. The pepper encrusted ahi blew my mind--most, firm and perfectly spicy. Dessert is creative and deliciously unusual. The salted caramel sundae included popcorn which seemed wrong but was completely right. Save your pennies and go there to make your vacation memorable!"

  • "The view is amazing but your going to pay for it. I come from NYC and know what it feels like to pay top dollar for a great meal, this however was not that. I started with the rice cracker crusted Ahi tuna which was a good not great. ($22) For my entree I splurged and went with the Wagu peppercorn NY Strip, it was above average for sure but not in my top 10 maybe top 20 and for $72 it should be in my top ten. My wife got the Mahi Mahi which was really good and I wish I went with that at $42. Wine was good but again $20 a glass for the wine I got was not worth it. You will have a good meal here and like I said the amniance was great but there area y other places I would go on the island and get a better meal for less (like the Beach House)."

  • "The food and atmosphere was excellent. The wait staff however was less than acceptable. After turning away the wine/list and alcoholic drinks, the waiter sent over a different waiter to take our order. The original waiter appeared to be annoyed that we were not drinking. We had to ask for bread and butter after seeing every other table with it. It is offensive to be discriminated against for not drinking when we tip over and above 20% for excellent service and our meal was over $300 for 4 without alcohol."

  • "We ate at the Kauai Grill on the last night of our Kauai vacation. The food is superb and the service beyond compare. I mentioned to our server Chris that I was cold ( AC cold ). Minutes later he came back and offered me a shawl to keep warm. I was so surprised, never had service like that before !!!! Chris described the menu options in detail and was very informative about wine pairings. The food was amazing especially the pavlova for desert. So many flavours together all of which were subtle and fused together on one plate. To die for !!!!! If you are in the area do not miss eating at this restaurant. I recommend the parsnip soup, prime rib tenderloin and of course the pavlova."

  • "The Octopus Salad was one of the best dishes that I have ever eaten - anywhere. I wish I could have the recipe and try to recreate those incredible spices and flavors and tenderness which is unusual for octopus.The Sea Bass (Mero) that was cooked perfectly with a crispy outside on an incredible flavor explosion of black bean puree with a myriad of spices and flavors. Phenomenal food, presentation, textures and tastes defines the Chef's talents as one of the best we have experienced anywhere in the world. And to find this in Kauai was unexpected but we were betting on the St. Regis. I strongly recommend folks to try this very special restaurant in a very special setting for a dining experience you will never forget."

Regardless of the selection, the flavor was incredible. Keep in mind---this restaurant is located within the St. Regis Princeville, so it's not cheap. But, in my opinion, the price is worth it when the meal is so wonderful. Wine list is robust, but very high-priced. It's tough to find a decent bottle for under $75 here. Service was solid, but nothing too special."

The tasting menu with wine pairings was well-considered, all courses were tasty, and a couple of the pairings were outstanding. But nothing really popped. And at this price point I expect at least one or two "Wows" in order to give an oustanding rating."

  • "We were disappointed in the overall experience. It was our 10th Anniversary Dinner and it was disappointing. The short ribs looked like brownies out of dish. The presentation of the menu was not special as other restaurants do. The lamb chops was good. The staff just did not seem seasoned enough for such a high priced restaurant. We were not offered anything free in celebration of our anniversary, as is the case with other restaurants. This was the worst of the occasion, a simple glass of wine or cupcake with candle and coffee is simple and something to provide to special occasion clients. Anyway since I am limited in text suffice to say this is my worst Open Table restaurant experience."

  • "Pulpo in pepper jelly appetizer sounded promising, but the jelly overpowered the toughy & chewy tentacles. Crabcake appetizer was mushy, no points there. Two steak entrees were lovely though overpriced; as were the a la carte mushrooms and mashed potatoes. A very nice homemade-ice cream sundae followed. Service was adequate. Overall: overpriced for the deliverables; though the Jean-Georges name was visible, the brand was not well-represented (I'm using the NY location to compare this restaurant with). We brought our own wine so I can't comment on the wine list. Perhaps the meal was overpriced because of the St. Regis location."

  • "We were really looking forward to this meal. Entrees between 25.00-nearly 60.00, attractive room and very attractive wait-staff, but the food was only OK. I've eaten at other Jean-Georges Vongerichten reataurants and this does not measure up. I realize it is located on an island in the middle of the Pacific, but still expected more. We started with the Hamachi appetizer which was fresh and well-balanced. The Waygu beef entree was not especially tender or well-seasoned and at 58.00 not worth it. The fish was alright, though also a bit overcooked. All of the wait people were very professional and well-versed on the menu. 300.00 for two people, with a single bottle of wine. Try Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt if you desire island ambiance."
