We arrived on time for a 7.15pm reservation and had requested a window table. Was told wait would be 10 mins or so but ended up waiting over 30 mins for one. We were celebrating a special ocassion and nothing special was offered which is unusual for the most expensive restaurant on the island especially after being made to wait for 30 mins!!

First, some of the staff could use some training on what a fine dining experience should be like for the client. We felt like we could have been in a cafeteria at some points. Second, the food is just average and way to expensive for what you are receiving. Do no waste your time and money. We were really expecting to have something nice to say.

Had Beef Tenderloin which was tough and gristled even though cooked medium rare. Came with generic broccoli that was under cooked yet charred? For the price, the food was notably unremarkable.

Overlooking the sunset on Hanalei Bay is hard to beat Menu is interesting without being over the top. My food was served perfectly, my wife's steak and accompaniments were served at room temperature. We sent it back and the problem was fixed without any quibbles at all. All the staff were charming and reasonably attentive although making several small blunders. This was made up for by comping various items on the menu. This was fine and really more than they needed to do. I would have preferred to have everything right the first time. Thus overall verdict: they are very well intentioned and are trying very hard and are almost there! Music was extremely monotonous and borderline intrusive. Certainly did not fit the romantic setting!

Food was very good, had the signature fish dish. Service was a bit rushed, appetizer came before we had 2 sips of our cocktail. Waiter kept filling wine glasses when half full. Prices were a bit high even for Kauai. View was nice before it got dark but ambience of restaurant had no warmth or "aloha" feel. We could have been anywhere did not feel at all like Hawaii. Will not return.

  • Nice Experience, Not Exceptional

My husband and I decided to dine at Kauai Grill on the last night of our honeymoon. We had a nice experience but given the money we paid ($400) and our other "tasting" experiences, it was mediocre. First, our waiter was obviously new and unsure how to advise us on the menu, but the restaurant was very accommodating of my gluten allergy. All of the tasting courses were good, but not "exceptional." My food (the gluten-free menu) but awesome, but my husband's fish was drowning in miso-sauce and his steak was a little over cooked (but he was never asked his temperature preference). However, the wine pairings were PHENOMENAL and the view was fabulous. Grab a table by the window before sunset, and the staff is happy to take photos for you.

We loved our evening. The view is spectacular, the staff welcoming and friendly, and the food is simply amazing. The staff was kind enough to alter the vegetarian food and wine pairing to accommodate our vegan preferences. The presentation of the Butternut Squash Soup was gorgeous! The soup was delicious with well balanced flavors and fun textures. The Crispy Rice Avocado was outstanding!

We chose Kauai Grill (sight unseen) for our special occasion some weeks before arriving in Kauai. We were not disappointed. The managers and wait staff were notably helpful. Individual requests regarding food preparation were gladly and precisely attended to, and the sommelier helped us to understand US wines which we were not familiar with. It was a great and memorable night!

We had a wonderful time except for the music. This was so incongruous with the setting, the scene and our dinner zen. Disco music belongs in a bar not in a high class restaurant. You also need to catch up with the times. Rose is the new Pinot Noir and Pino Grigio!! Get Domaine Triennes! Your wine list is outdated and a little boring. Better wine and more affordable wine. If we had a better choice, we may have stayed for dessert?

The ambiance in the Jean-Georges Kauai Grill is warm on the eyes with hip music playing. We ordered the rice cracker crusted ahi tuna to start which was fantastic. We followed that raw starter up with the soup that also impressed us. Our first entree consisted of the lobster that was displayed in amazing fashion to look like there was a mountain of food on the plate... it was very good. Our second entree was the lamb chops which were the best lamb chops I've ever eaten in my life... quality, flavor, cooked to perfection... with mushroom bolognese, parmesan, broccolini and a side of mashed potatoes. The only thing that didn't impress was the bok choy side dish. We had a wonderful experience and will book at sunset next time around.

Went for a special occasion dinner. The food was delicious and beautifully plated, the cocktails very nice. We had an issue with some noisy diners, but after working something out with the manager, we'll be back to enjoy on a quieter night. Totally not the fault of Kaua'i Grill. Be sure to get a window seat at sunset, it's breathtaking.

Really expected more. The view is nice, and our waiter was attentive, but the food was just average. My wife had the ahi tuna which was decent, but I had the Waygu ribeye which was barely edible; very disappointed. For a $76 steak, I really was hoping for something stellar, but the steak was quite small, very tough and over cooked. Yes, I should have sent it back, but I was too damned hungry to wait for a new steak. Should of had the burger and fries!

The noise level was higher than you would want at a high-end restaurant. Management should really look into buffering the sound. This would make the restaurant more romantic and elegant. The view was spectacular! We were lucky our party of 4 had the only table by the window. I expected more of the Wagyu beef, since it was expensive!! It wasn't as tender or succulent as it should be for that cut.

Beautiful view. Beautiful restaurant. Food was average. Octopus over cooked. Hearts of Palm salad was excellent. Short ribs average. Fish was over powered by ginger sauce. Somme-lie was excellent. You are paying for the view and atmosphere. They could do so much better. It was disappointing and I would only recommend getting drinks there for the view.

The octopus was amazing, steak was tasty, and the lobster was a complete miss. The pepper jam made the meal, along with the amazing view of little Jacky Paper's favorite dragon, Puff. The only complaint was the corn on the lobster tasted like the Big Green Giant spent hours packaging it. Thank Sorry Chef Jean, I guess the butter at the Red Lobster would have made the evening.

Absolutely delicious. We started with drinks at the St. Regis bar upstairs, then came down for dinner. The sichuan-pepper-encrusted ahi was genius--I think it's best with the pepper jam (rather than soy-miso) for the contrast. Our best meal on Kauai. Excellent, attentive service (but not intrusive). There was a bit of a glare before sunset, but that's part of any sunset experience. Not sure the whole Princeville complex is the best thing for the local environment, but the hotel is stunning; and the view is one of the most spectacular in the world. (For those with romantic intentions, probably the lower outdoor level is preferable.)

Be sure to ask for a table outside on the balcony and arrive before sunset. The views are spectacular!!! The food was great. My only complaint, besides it was pricy which I expected, was that food timing was not good. Our main course arrived just as we finished our appetizers. For an expensive place such as this, I would have expected a little extra attention and not be rushed so quickly.

The rice cracker crusted ahi paired magically with the recommended German Reisling, melt in your mouth freshness. And that dear readers was just the beginning. I was excited to eat at this restaurant under the misconception that this was a Jean George restaurant. That was true only in name as the service, food and wine list were far below what I would expect from his other two restaurants in NYC and even Vegas. Overall, an above average meal as far as Hawaii goes, but not worth high expectations. At the very least, people in old fishing t shirts and flip flops with old shorts were welcomed to dine. Very disappointing.

We were not staying at the hotel so that even though we requested a table near the windows and there were some open when we arrived, hotel guests seem to get preference so we were seated at a table on the side. The food was very good. We had a salad and a shrimp appetizer. There are three shrimp on the appetizer that were quite tasty. We had a fish dish and a chicken dish. The mahi dish was very good as was the chicken that had a delicious topping. We had to ask for water refills a time or two which should be taken care of without asking at an expensive restaurant. Our waiter seemed to stop by every so often and left most of the service to his assistant/busboy.

Previous restaurant had Hawaiian appeal. Now it's just another contemporary loud restaurant but the food is still excellent. We were told to check out the Kuaui Grill for its amazing view of the sunset and amazing it is! The grill is a beautifully appointed room, service is attentive but not overbearing, and meals are elegantly presented and delicious! Included are little extras, like small puff pastry rounds, presented before the meal. My husband lived his fish with asparagus, and my short ribs were moist and tender. For dessert, we enjoyed the petite buerre with fresh raspberries. It was all delicious, from start to finish, and the setting and ambience made for an absolutely perfect final evening in Kauai!

The Thai Basil Smash was the most delicious cocktail we have ever had. The salad of fresh palm hearts and tomatoes with coconut vinaigrette was absolutely superb. The crisped herbed shrimp with creamy fennel and orange dust was excellent but not as unusual as it sounded. The crispy poached eggs (amazing how this is done!) with caviar, vodka creme fraiche and brioche cubes was also delicious, as was the crepe cake for dessert. The service and attention to detail were excellent.

We chose the Kauai Grill for out last dinner in Kauai based on the fantastic view of the sunset over Hanalei Bay. The view didn't disappoint nor did the food. An absolutely delicious dinning experience, we were blown away by the food. My dining companion is a celiac and were very excited that they had a large gluten free menu, better yet they had a gluten free tasting menu so we could both experience a sampling of their best dishes. Highlights were the ahi tuna on both as well as the fish dishes on both menus. The mahi mahi sauce was unbelievable. Excellent experience and would recommend to anyone while visiting the Garden isle.

We ordered the filet mignon and it was very tender, and the ahi was cooked to perfection….that is all that was good. Food is WAY overpriced for what you get! The view was primarily our reason for dining in at this location. We wouldn't go back and we are on the island at least once a year. There aren't many fine dining spots on the island, but this one is not worth the money. The wait staff was stuffy and overall it wasn't what we had hoped we would encounter. Worst spent $200!
