  • "Really expected more. The view is nice, and our waiter was attentive, but the food was just average. My wife had the ahi tuna which was decent, but I had the Waygu ribeye which was barely edible; very disappointed. For a $76 steak, I really was hoping for something stellar, but the steak was quite small, very tough and over cooked. Yes, I should have sent it back, but I was too damned hungry to wait for a new steak. Should of had the burger and fries!"

  • "The noise level was higher than you would want at a high-end restaurant. Management should really look into buffering the sound. This would make the restaurant more romantic and elegant. The view was spectacular! We were lucky our party of 4 had the only table by the window. I expected more of the Wagyu beef, since it was expensive!! It wasn't as tender or succulent as it should be for that cut."

  • "Beautiful view. Beautiful restaurant. Food was average. Octopus over cooked. Hearts of Palm salad was excellent. Short ribs average. Fish was over powered by ginger sauce. Somme-lie was excellent. You are paying for the view and atmosphere. They could do so much better. It was disappointing and I would only recommend getting drinks there for the view."

  • "The octopus was amazing, steak was tasty, and the lobster was a complete miss. The pepper jam made the meal, along with the amazing view of little Jacky Paper's favorite dragon, Puff. The only complaint was the corn on the lobster tasted like the Big Green Giant spent hours packaging it. Thank Sorry Chef Jean, I guess the butter at the Red Lobster would have made the evening."

  • "Absolutely delicious. We started with drinks at the St. Regis bar upstairs, then came down for dinner. The sichuan-pepper-encrusted ahi was genius--I think it's best with the pepper jam (rather than soy-miso) for the contrast. Our best meal on Kauai. Excellent, attentive service (but not intrusive). There was a bit of a glare before sunset, but that's part of any sunset experience. Not sure the whole Princeville complex is the best thing for the local environment, but the hotel is stunning; and the view is one of the most spectacular in the world. (For those with romantic intentions, probably the lower outdoor level is preferable.)"

  • "Be sure to ask for a table outside on the balcony and arrive before sunset. The views are spectacular!!! The food was great. My only complaint, besides it was pricy which I expected, was that food timing was not good. Our main course arrived just as we finished our appetizers. For an expensive place such as this, I would have expected a little extra attention and not be rushed so quickly."

  • "Surrounded by honeymooners and a 180 degree view of Hanalei bay, we dined in luxury at Kauai Grill in the St. Regis hotel. Spectacular! The rice cracker crusted ahi paired magically with the recommended German Reisling, melt in your mouth freshness. And that dear readers was just the beginning. They have a good thing going there at the St. Regis. Every bite was delicious, beautifully presented, and we would definitely return again. Just great."

  • "I was excited to eat at this restaurant under the misconception that this was a Jean George restaurant. That was true only in name as the service, food and wine list were far below what I would expect from his other two restaurants in NYC and even Vegas. Overall, an above average meal as far as Hawaii goes, but not worth high expectations. At the very least, people in old fishing t shirts and flip flops with old shorts were welcomed to dine. Very disappointing."

  • "We were not staying at the hotel so that even though we requested a table near the windows and there were some open when we arrived,hotel guests seem to get preference so we were seated at a table on the side. The food was very good. We had a salad and a shrimp appetizer. There are three shrimp on the appetizer that were quite tasty. We had a fish dish and a chicken dish. The mahi dish was very good as was the chicken that had a delicious topping. We had to ask for water refills a time or two which should be taken care of without asking at an expensive restaurant. Our waiter seemed to stop by every so often and left most of the service to his assistant/busboy."

But for the price I prefer to eat at a hotel that represents the island. I can get a good expensive dinner on the mainland.. Our car valet was rude. Expect higher quality from a 5 star hotel."

  • "We were told to check out the Kuaui Grill for its amazing view of the sunset and amazing it is! The grill is a beautifully appointed room, service is attentive but not overbearing, and meals are elegantly presented and delicious! Included are little extras, like small puff pastry rounds, presented before the meal. My husband lived his fish with asparagus, and my short ribs were moist and tender. For dessert, we enjoyed the petite buerre with fresh raspberries. It was all delicious, from start to finish, and the setting and ambience made for an absolutely perfect final evening in Kauai!"

  • "The Thai Basil Smash was the most delicious cocktail we have ever had. The salad of fresh palm hearts and tomatoes with coconut vinaigrette was absolutely superb. The crisped herbed shrimp with creamy fennel and orange dust was excellent but not as unusual as it sounded. The crispy poached eggs (amazing how this is done!) with caviar,vodka creme fraiche and brioche cubes was also delicious, as was the crepe cake for dessert. The service and attention to detail were excellent."

  • "We chose the Kauai Grill for out last dinner in Kauai based on the fantastic view of the sunset over Hanalei Bay. The view didn't disappoint nor did the food. An absolutely delicious dinning experience, we were blown away by the food. My dining companion is a celiac and were very excited that they had a large gluten free menu, better yet they had a gluten free tasting menu so we could both experience a sampling of their best dishes. Highlights were the ahi tuna on both as well as the fish dishes on both menus. The mahi mahi sauce was unbelievable. Excellent experience and would recommend to anyone while visiting the Garden isle. "

  • "We ordered the filet mignon and it was very tender, and the ahi was cooked to perfection….that is all that was good. Food is WAY overpriced for what you get! The view was primarily our reason for dining in at this location. We wouldn't go back and we are on the island at least once a year. There aren't many fine dining spots on the island, but this one is not worth the money. The wait staff was stuffy and overall it wasn't what we had hoped we would encounter. Worst spent $200! "

We made reservations in advance for my daughter & son-in-law's anniversary, and we were quite disappointed in the seating/table that we were given. In spite of the fact that there were open booths, the 4 of us were seated at a long, narrow table that made conversation very awkward. Although we have been to the restaurant every year since they opened, we were very disappointed with the seating that we were given."

  • "Party of 9 for a Birthday and did the Pre-Fix - 5 course tasting menu. Overall the place was good, service was average to above average but staying at the Hotel we ran into continued service issues. Highlights: Lobster - Well portioned (half tail plus 1 claw - deshelled), outstanding flavor and the foam butter was incredible. Filet - TINY! We are talking 2 oz. which is ridiculous but the flavor was perfect with the cilantro sauce and bok choy. perfectly cooked at medium rare. Bread - The texture was chewy and very light. Accompanied with a high fat whipped butter at room temperature was very well paired. Improvements: Heart of Palms Salad - Should be called a tomato dish with a few slices of palms, lack luster and poorly executed. "

  • "After reading other reviews, we went there with high expectations, and it did not turn out to be as fabulous as I had hoped. While the view was out of this world, ( even on the cloudy day we had) the restaurant interior was less elegant than I had hoped for. It kind of had a contemporary feel, that gave it a somewhat cold, cafe style feel. The service was fine, but not exceptional, and for the price paid, the food did not leave a lasting impression, except for the cheese board which we did enjoy."

  • " Everything was phenomenal the food was beyond our wildest expectation. And the service was something I have not experienced anywhere that I can recall, and I work in the hospitality industry, what a warm atmosphere. The food, from the appetizers to the main course, and the deserts were just unbelievable! The view of the mountain range was spectacular, as well. We had the Hamachi, Pork belly, and the Kauai Shrimp for starters, 3 things we eat often, but will the preparation, presentation, and the unique flavor was just unbelievable, and was out of this world! For dinner we had the Steamed Onaga, The peppercorn crusted Ahi, and the 12oz Wagyu NY Strip, the flavors were soooo good and cooked exactly as ordered!! We will be back!!"

  • "We had read reviews before going to dinner and decided we would give it a shot, after all it is the St. Regis. However, other reviews were spot on. The food was not impressive in the least, my steak was cooked medium well when I asked for medium and the taste was bland. My husband opted for the lamb and also thought it was just ok. The server, while nice, had a poor knowledge of the menu and just wasn't the caliber of server I would expect for such an establishment. The only saving grace during our dinner was the beautiful sunset. That being said, I could have pulled off on to one of the beaches and had a picnic and probably been more content than I was at Kauai Grill."

We are staying at St Regis and love this place so were very surprised. Makana Terrace was much more impressive to us thus far. Hope it was just an off night. We do highly recommend St Regis Resort....truly wonderful! "

  • "Kauai Grill delivers with a very fine restaurant with a tremendous view of the north coast of Kauai, down to the Na Pali. We opted for the tasting menu with wines (5 courses, 5 wines) to accompany. Each course was prepared exceptionally well and with the entire meal was just the right amount for me, maybe more than enough for my wife! But she had a great time; it was her birthday. The wines were generally well chosen, although the White Burgundy was too dry and woody for the accompanying course. The first wine was a Mosel from Selbach and the slight touch of sweetness was perfect with a fish course that also had a touch of sweetness. Why only very good? Well, the cost is high!"

  • "I ate at Kauai Grill with my sister and brother-in-law for her birthday. While the good was very good, we were all very disappointed the our waiter. He was aloof, did not make eye contact with us for the majority of the meal, and did not check on us much at all. I expect more for a restaurant located inside a St. Regis hotel."
