The food is always fantastic being la live it's the place to go if you love sushi and you want a meal before a game or concert if you the type that wants a quiet dinner not the place, the service is as good as it can get for the slammed crowd s before a event. Overall the experiance is fantastic and is my spot of choice every time I go to a event in LA live...about 25 to 30 times a year

I have to preface this with the fact that we were there the night of a LA Kings game, so that might have affected the service. That being said, the waitstaff were a little harried and a little sweaty. We never got the servers name. I thought that restaurants make most of their money on serving alcohol, so not getting drinks to a table - and not offering to replenish those drinks - is a mystery to me. The food that we did order was fresh, the high points were the salmon and caviar and the salmon sashimi. Also, the spicy tuna sushi was tasty. The seafood 'sampler' was a little disappointing, however. Overall a little generic. Typical LA Live environment with some beautiful people looking to be seen. Probably won't be back anytime soon.

This is some of the best sushi around and you are going to pay for it. A bit over priced. They could shave 15% off there prices and still make a killing. Need a few more servers once this place fills up service slows down. If you are attending an event in the area make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

We are frequent customers of the Katsuya in Brentwood, so we thought it would be fun to have a meal at the LA Live location before the Elton John concert. We made a reservation for 7pm, but waited 40 minutes to be seated. It was an absolute zoo with multiple parties with reservations waiting to be seated. Despite several trips to the reception podium, we were never given a satisfactory reason for the delay other than tables were lingering longer than expected. Frankly, the restaurant should be experienced enough to accurately determine their table turn over on concert nights. When we were finally seated, we had to rush through our meal in 20 minutes to make the concert. In addition, the noise level in the restaurant was deafening.

Okay, so if you're going to Katsuya at L.A. Live, make sure you make a reservation, and make it early. The place gets jam packed with folks coming for dinner before a game or concert, and it turns into a madhouse. We had a 6PM reservation, but luckily we arrived early at 5:30PM, as we did not finish until just after 7:30PM due to the speed of service being so slow. The sushi was pretty good. We had the omakase sampler menu and several apps, and were pleased with the amount of food and quality. The service was so uneven though, as my courses kept coming out before my husband's, so I had to sit and wait for his food to arrive, even though we were having the same tasting menu. Be forewarned. Everything was delicious though.

We have dined here a few times before events at Staples or Nokia, and they are slammed from around 6-8pm and service suffers greatly. They don;t have enough servers or runners. Our server had 8 tables including inside and outside and also handled drinks. The first round of drinks came after the first round of food and the second round of drinks ordered came after the meal. They server was working very hard and was moving, but management needs to get more help during these crunch times.

The food is always ridiculously good, here, though the cocktail menu leaves something to be desired for me. I was especially frustrated with my server during this particular visit. He was really shoving us out the door from the moment we sat down. Asking us if were ready to order when we'd not even opened out menus yet, returning to see if we were ready mere moments later. Once we ordered, we specifically asked him to stagger the food -- but he brought all but one of our dishes out together. When he brought the last one, he commented that he held it so he didn't serve everything at once. Gee, thanks. Then we actually decided to order one more dish and suddenly he was nowhere to be found.

We went for the dinner and a movie promotion but they had no movie tickets left. The manager was content to with this but we were not. We complained and had to suggest she buy us a glass of wine to compensate for the missed film. iThe dinner was not satisfying in terms of quantity but taste was OK. It is unlikely that I will return.

My favorite place for dinner or apps before a game at the Staples center or concert at Nokia. Also, the staff knows the game time and can be sensitive to helping you stay on schedule. Gets busy pre-game, so make a reservation. OpenTable good for that purpose. (No reason it is not 5 stars, other than I save 5 stars for very, very special places. Maybe 1 a year, if I am lucky.)

Katsuya has always been a favorite place of mine for business lunches (in Glendale). This was my first time in LA Live location. We had an early reservation (6:00) and I was really surprised by the poor service. The waiter took our order promptly but then quickly forgot us. I had to ask numerous times for a refill on green tea, for ginger, for a fork, etc. All simple stuff. We waited and waited and waited and kept asking and asking and asking. For the price on the menu ($10 for edamame, really?) service should be impeccable. i was disappointed...

Food is great. Service, not so much. I even put Birthday Celebration as reason for coming in. TOTALLY ignored...we felt like we were being ignored...It was a concert night, but we had EARLY reservations and it was not packed. We paid A LOT for very little food and only two drinks (could have been more...but he never asked if we wanted more) We just wanted to leave. There were a lot of people working, so we felt like they were not short staffed...so it's very disappointing. I wouldn't go back...I have better service at YardHouse.

Even though the waitresses were friendly, the service was slow. We waited quite a while to get our check and in fact we were the last ones to leave the restaurant during their lunch hour. I had also mentioned during the open table reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but unfortunately no one at the restaurant knew- I'm not sure if they forgot or if they did not care to read the reservation request. We waited hoping they would acknowledge the birthday request but finally we had to remind them in front of the person we were celebrating and essentially ruined the surprise. By the time they came around with the birthday dessert, the birthday girl had to return to work completing missing it.

I have dined at many Katsuya locations and this one by far was the worst. The yellowtail with jalapenos did not taste fresh, the recommended "albacore tuna roll" had an after taste I couldn't pin point, the Panna Cotta dessert was tasteless, and the lamb chops were super fatty. This entire dining experience set my date back upwards of $220. So not worth the money. The server clearly saw we were unhappy with the food and she ignored it as though it were a normal phenomena. I would recommend Katana any day of the week over Katsuya. This is the last time I will be dining there.

When I asked what she recommended since it was our first time she couldn't directly give me a straight answer. There were five of us vas we paid 350 for the smallest sushi rolls I've ever seen. Had reservations for 8pm. Waiting in line at the hostess table for 10-15mins. She said our table would be ready in 5mins. So glad we had reservations because the walk in wait time was 60-90mins. Funny, since half the restaurant had empty tables and there were a few outside (probably reserved). 5mins became 15mins. Our party of 3 was seats at a 6 person table. lol! How illogical and wasteful. One half of the table was a booth/bench. Don't ever sit there. The cushions are soft and VERY LOW to the ground. Maybe that's japanese style, but your friends in the chair will be higher than you! Food came out quick, beer came out last! Tried to move to one of the open 4 person tables to no avail. There are better places!

I was expecting fancy, expensive Japanese food, and in that respect Katsuya certainly delivers. The problem is you get about half the amount you expect, so you need to order twice as much! Come with a thick wallet. The service did not match the food at all. We ordered tea, but no one brought any. I finally asked someone (not our waiter), and then tea emerged. Our waiter made a point of asking when we ordered when we wanted to receive our side bowls of rice. We said, with our entrees. But we didn't get our rice with our entrees at all; rather, after we had finished our entrees. By then, it didn't matter. The slow service, hefty pricetag, and booming bass music that made it hard to talk with my companions.

OMG - so disappointed with this Katsuya. I am Katsuya fan but this restaurant needs to perk up. We were seated in a 1/2 booth 1/2 table so half high; half low. So awkward. The drinks came after all the food came out - which was too fast for a calm evening. One drink horrible - had to change. Some of the fish was questionable in taste. Scary. Friday Night - restaurant not even half full. Hint - you are on the verge of going under. But Nickolas was great. I have eaten in Hollywood, Glendale, etc and they were all great. LA Live - strange experience.
