The Sushi was good but small portions, I'm use to the authentic Sushi restaurants like Sushi Gen. But that's what you get when you eat at a hot location before a game. The service was great and so were the drinks. Overall the LA Live location, service, restaurant and food was good. Just not much Sushi for the $$$$

Been here few times this location, same type service. Way too crowded, better have reservations lots other eats around better service hostess black girl asks us inside/out..out, she says oh no cant, what? You just asked and offered to other couple before us who didn't have reservations so they had to wait ended in dark corner squished next to lady with kid sitting on her side. Husband asked other hostess she says oh ya no problem so we moved. Last time we ordered waited over 30min food ok crowded understand, asked waiter where's rest of food ordered, says oh cook didn't make forgot. What! NVM had show to see couldn't wait anymore. Always something disappointing at this place. Real tired of it. They don't care bout bad service always crowded.

I took my husband here for his birthday and overall, it was a great experience. The staff and our server were polite and attentive. The only negative thing I have to say was that our table was a little sticky. I found that out when I put my wrist on the table and got the remnants of some else's spilt drink on me. No biggie. Other than that, the food was excellent and we had a great time.

We have eaten at Katsuya on and off over several years, and it has always been a treat, with new and different items, often things other sushi places don't have. The last couple of times, it seemed to me that some of the rolls tasted (though I sure it's not possible)pre-prepared. They just didn't taste as fresh as they used to. The miso cod was delicious. The creamy rock shrimp was great. One of the special rolls the waitress was recommending was not being offered that night. Just the rolls seemed off.

Our dinner started with our waiter greeting us with a wad of Gum his mouth. He got most of the order correct, but to say the food was good typical Katsyua quality would be overly generous. The food has been dummied down, along with the wait staff to accommodate tourists. Extra maynosisse and garlic was added to every dish in hopes of stretching ingredients. The prices are still high and have not been adjusted to be in par with the poor service and food

We only ate sushi. All the fish was fresh and tasted great. The cons: There's one dish with just yellow tail and jalapeños that was a little disappointing because the size of the dish vs the cost seemed way out of proportion. We were also disappointed that the one dessert that really called to us was the perfiteroles... Not only didn't they have them, they don't carry them anymore. Why are they still on the menu?!?!?!?!

I have to preface this with the fact that we were there the night of a LA Kings game, so that might have affected the service. That being said, the waitstaff were a little harried and a little sweaty. We never got the servers name. I thought that restaurants make most of their money on serving alcohol, so not getting drinks to a table - and not offering to replenish those drinks - is a mystery to me. The food that we did order was fresh, the high points were the salmon and caviar and the salmon sashimi. Also, the spicy tuna sushi was tasty. The seafood 'sampler' was a little disappointing, however. Overall a little generic. Typical LA Live environment with some beautiful people looking to be seen. Probably won't be back anytime soon.

This is some of the best sushi around and you are going to pay for it. A bit over priced. They could shave 15% off there prices and still make a killing. Need a few more servers once this place fills up service slows down. If you are attending an event in the area make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

We are frequent customers of the Katsuya in Brentwood, so we thought it would be fun to have a meal at the LA Live location before the Elton John concert. We made a reservation for 7pm, but waited 40 minutes to be seated. It was an absolute zoo with multiple parties with reservations waiting to be seated. Despite several trips to the reception podium, we were never given a satisfactory reason for the delay other than tables were lingering longer than expected. Frankly, the restaurant should be experienced enough to accurately determine their table turn over on concert nights. When we were finally seated, we had to rush through our meal in 20 minutes to make the concert. In addition, the noise level in the restaurant was deafening.

Okay, so if you're going to Katsuya at L.A. Live, make sure you make a reservation, and make it early. The place gets jam packed with folks coming for dinner before a game or concert, and it turns into a madhouse. We had a 6PM reservation, but luckily we arrived early at 5:30PM, as we did not finish until just after 7:30PM due to the speed of service being so slow. The sushi was pretty good. We had the omakase sampler menu and several apps, and were pleased with the amount of food and quality. The service was so uneven though, as my courses kept coming out before my husband's, so I had to sit and wait for his food to arrive, even though we were having the same tasting menu. Be forewarned. Everything was delicious though.

We have dined here a few times before events at Staples or Nokia, and they are slammed from around 6-8pm and service suffers greatly. They don;t have enough servers or runners. Our server had 8 tables including inside and outside and also handled drinks. The first round of drinks came after the first round of food and the second round of drinks ordered came after the meal. They server was working very hard and was moving, but management needs to get more help during these crunch times.

The food is always ridiculously good, here, though the cocktail menu leaves something to be desired for me. I was especially frustrated with my server during this particular visit. He was really shoving us out the door from the moment we sat down. Asking us if were ready to order when we'd not even opened out menus yet, returning to see if we were ready mere moments later. Once we ordered, we specifically asked him to stagger the food -- but he brought all but one of our dishes out together. When he brought the last one, he commented that he held it so he didn't serve everything at once. Gee, thanks. Then we actually decided to order one more dish and suddenly he was nowhere to be found.

My favorite place for dinner or apps before a game at the Staples center or concert at Nokia. Also, the staff knows the game time and can be sensitive to helping you stay on schedule. Gets busy pre-game, so make a reservation. OpenTable good for that purpose. (No reason it is not 5 stars, other than I save 5 stars for very, very special places. Maybe 1 a year, if I am lucky.)

Katsuya has always been a favorite place of mine for business lunches (in Glendale). This was my first time in LA Live location. We had an early reservation (6:00) and I was really surprised by the poor service. The waiter took our order promptly but then quickly forgot us. I had to ask numerous times for a refill on green tea, for ginger, for a fork, etc. All simple stuff. We waited and waited and waited and kept asking and asking and asking. For the price on the menu ($10 for edamame, really?) service should be impeccable. i was disappointed...

Food is great. Service, not so much. I even put Birthday Celebration as reason for coming in. TOTALLY ignored...we felt like we were being ignored...It was a concert night, but we had EARLY reservations and it was not packed. We paid A LOT for very little food and only two drinks (could have been more...but he never asked if we wanted more) We just wanted to leave. There were a lot of people working, so we felt like they were not short staffed...so it's very disappointing. I wouldn't go back...I have better service at YardHouse.
