Katsuya - Hollywood - SBEHip scene-y spotThe Hollywood location of this restaurant seems to have paparazzi constantly looming outside its doors. Apparently celebrities often come here. The place is a modern, very "LA" type restaurant. The food is good, our server last night was high-energy, peppy and super friendly. She made great suggestions from the menu for our party of 6. We had a great time celebrating a friend's 30th birthday. It's moderately pricey, so it's probably better for a special occasion rather than a regular routine night out for dinner, unless you're in to that kind of thing on a regular weeknight.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMKatsuya on top of their game! This is the second time I have eaten at Katsuya and it was excellent again. The energy felt great and the servers were on point. We never had to wait for anything needed. The quality of the fish was truly outstanding!!! Our appetizers had some wonderful taste fusions going on. Our drinks were done proper! Highly recommend Katsuya for anyone who enjoys sushi. It kicks dust on hollywood NOBU by far in my opinion.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceI usually bring friends from out of town to Katsuya so they can experience good Japanese food and a bit of the Hollywood vibe. This last visit was as good as always. Great food, REALLY good cocktails. Highly recommend it as a special occasion or bring a visitor for good food location! Our server, Shelly, was terrific and was really professional and friendly.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy food !!The food was great but it was really expensive...!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Sashimi and Creative SushKatsuya is not just a hot-spot scene, but has a well-deserved reputation for unique and delicious menu options. Not only do they have creative sushi roll creations, for true sushi lovers, they consistently have fantastic sashimi. Dinner at Katsuya before a show at the Pantages makes for a perfect date-night out in Hollywood.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceYou should order such I set and yellowtail enter course5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were enthusiastically greeted,thWe were enthusiastically greeted, the wait staff was friendly attentive and knowledgable . It was a late lunch their kitchen closed at 2:30 we were not rushed out. The Valet service was very accommodating since we were going to be in the area for awhile. The food was very good , particularly the Misi Cod and the sushi. The baked crab role is over priced in my opinion, stick to other selections. Portions are small and menu for lunch differs from dinner menu slightly.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was top notch. The service was top notch. The spicy tuna rolls with the crispy rice was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of tuna but this was prepared very well. The customer service was awesome and I felt like a valued customer. I will be returning to this restaurant in the near future.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe eggplant appetizer isThe eggplant appetizer is delicious. Had the miso cod for the first time, and it was amazing!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fantastic andThe food was fantastic and the service was even better if that is possible. Recommend the special katsuya roll.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTrendy SushiOriginal small plates sushi choice. The sushi isn't totally traditional, but very interesting. More traditional takes tend yo be smaller and eel prepared. Their specials build on traditional with some unusual add ons, and seem very much larger. Take a traditional California roll portion of 6 pcs, then ladle either scallops in sauce or shrimp over the top... do I use ginger/wasabi or not? No matter, all good.
They have 3 separate kitchens, depending on whether dish is sushi, hot, or traditional US steak. Things arrive in wired order, so suggest order as you go, one or two ahead of where you are.
Service attentive, but paced to multi courses...
Good outing pre-theater4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMYou won't be Disappointed!!This place was AMAZING! The seating is a little close together, unless you go with a large group but still comfortable. Not too many tables for 2 so you at least had some additional room. The specialty drinks are good, a little on the sweet side but that's the way I like them. The waitress was great. She made good suggestions, explained the restaurant since we'd never been, and never smothered us but was always near by when we needed her. Our water glasses and empty plates were quickly removed by the other staff. We had almost every one of their specialty dishes and were blown away by each. Having never really tried sashimi it was definitely the right place to give it a go. We've now found a whole new love for sushi.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a terrific time with greatHad a terrific time with great food and a solicitous staff. Thank you.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been here twice and eachI've been here twice and each time was fantastic. The service was excellent and the food was heavenly. Katsuya offers very original sushi which were all amazing. Great service food and ambiance!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy! Cannot beat this sushi!Yummy! Cannot beat this sushi! Worth the price tag! Hollywood location is gorgeous.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous, fabulous and delicious!Fabulous food, fabulous service! My family's favorite place to eat when we are in Hollywood or heading to a show at the Pantages. Even for those who don't eat sushi, they have so many fabulous options and are always willing to help make whatever works with everyone's specific likes and diets. It's fun, trendy and delicious!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant. Good selectionGreat restaurant. Good selection of food. Honestly, this place is mostly for the atmosphere. There are a few signature dishes that are great, but it would be nice to see some more additions to the menu.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCertainly the best ResturantCertainly the best Resturant near the Pantages Theater.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly RecommendWe ordered the tasting menu, which was perfect because we couldn't make up our minds on what to order, and we got to taste things we never would have ordered. One hundred percent of the dishes we tried were fantastic! I highly recommend splurging on this.
Our server was great in expediting the meal as we were headed to a show at the Pantages across the street. She didn't rush us, but made sure we had plenty of time to get to the theater (not an easy task when three tables of hungry business men were suddenly seated after we ordered).
This was the perfect choice for dinner before taking in a show.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTheater dinner!Always great! Perfect before the Pantages Theater. We have season seats and eat here every time - never disappointed!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOur dining experience at KatsuyaOur dining experience at Katsuya was so positive that we nearly closed down the restaurant, completely losing track of time. I owe a lot of this to the great server and gorgeous ambience and vibe provided by this elegant and timeless sushi hotspot.
I will for sure be returning to Katsuya in the near future!!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe specials are actuallyThe specials are actually the best. The standard menu items are just so-so. They are definitely good, but nothing that blows you away or makes you feel like you have to order it again.
Service is excellent, but almost a little too attentive - I felt like someone was at our table every few minutes. It is great (you never have to ask for a drink refill or for a plate to be taken away), but I could have used a little more space between the visits.
Walking distance to the Pantages, which is a huge plus.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server was really great,Our server was really great, didn't rush us through our 2.5 hour meal! Lots of options on this menu, all creatively presented and uniquely prepared. The fish is fresh. Saki was excellent. We've dined here before and it never disappoints.
You do pay for the ambiance and presentation but it is a total "worth it" splurge. Our local sushi bar in Thousand Oaks is just as excellent at about 1/2 of the price.11/30/2012 12:00:00 AMFood was sub par to BretwoodFood was sub par to Bretwood location but still good10/25/2012 12:00:00 AMLots of US arranged sushiLots of US arranged sushi is not tasety especially for Japanese.
