Very nice restaurant; this was my first time there. It Is conveniently located across the street from the Pantages theater, making it a great place to go prior to going to the theater. The restaurant was trendy; the servers were polite and friendly; and the food was really good! I highly recommend making reservations and I would recommend this as a place to grab a bite to eat prior to going to the theater.

The service was awful and when the food was delivered it was cold. Sent it back and then it took 30 minutes to get it back. In a party of four, we all ate at different times. Dessert then took 20 minutes to arrive. Food was ok, not great, so will not return nor recommend the restaurant. Extremely disappointed as other restaurants of the same name are very good.

The location and hip-factor of this place are great. My reservation was set for a certain time but we had to wait for up to or more than 45 minutes to actually be seated. The food was tasty, but we often struggled to get a server's attention and actually order despite our section not being too full. The guy bringing us our water was super on top of it, though. The tuna on topped of crispy rice with jalapeno was good (although I tasted butter which the rice may have been made crispy with; I'm not a fan of butter and I definitely don't want to taste butter in sushi). I remember this sushi dish being super outstanding the first time I had it some years ago, however. The two other sushi dishes we ordered were average-tasting to better-than-average-tasting. I recommend Katsuya Hollywood for the hip-factor and location, not particularly for the service.

  • Overpriced But Enjoyable Night Out

I went with a group of friends -- several from out of town. We all love sushi and thought Katsuya would be a lot of fun and a "scene" to check out. I'd been to their Brentwood location and enjoyed that for what it was and figured the Hollywood restaurant would be something to see. I was surprised by how low key the dining area was. It's massive and cavernous with a large square sushi bar in the center. We were given a corner table which was the perfect area to be as it was more quiet and private. The service was personable and attentive but not overly so. We enjoyed our waiter quite a bit and he had a great familiarity with the menu. The service was excellent all the way around. Food was ordered throughout the evening and it came back to us quickly. The cocktail menu is impressive and creative and we enjoyed our drinks. The food is good but not extraordinary or very creative or unique. The quality of the fish was good but not rave worthy given the pricing. One round of drinks and dinner wth one dessert for five was close to $500. The valet parking is expensive -- $13 for 3 hrs and that's their lowest price. It also took 20 min for the cars to show up after paying and that seemed to be the average for those who came before us. Overall an enjoyable but overpriced evening out. The company I was with made it a great night out -- we could have been anywhere.

We have been there before a few times. In general I find their menu and food quality good. The service is a bit spotty. They seems to have many people serving you but none of them appear to be accountable for what the other did or didn't do. The prices are jacked up unnecessarily for the pretentious Hollywood types. I also find the decor a bit dark and room too noisy to have a comfortable dining experience. You may ask why then would you keep on going there? Fair question. The answer is that it seems to be the only decent restaurant available within walking distance of the Pantages Theather and we go there to eat before a show.

A bit pricey but worth it if you can appreciate the atmosphere and vibe. Great sushi. Great saki selections. Our particular waitress wasn't very attentive or friendly, but gave decent service. My preference is the one that they closed in Houston. Won't be the last time that I dine at a Katsuya.

What an excellent meal! We went to celebrate our daughter's 16th birthday with a group of her friends and everyone LOVED everything! The girls just kept ordering more food and devouring all of it! Our server was attentive and helpful. She even had the pastry chef beautifully decorate one of our desserts with a candle and 'Sweet 16' message written in chocolate. My husband & I agreed with the girls - this was the best sushi we had ever had! We'll definitely be back!

This is an average sushi place with a high end look and price. The food wasn't bad but wasn't great either, the service was...OK. It's got a very cool and trendy vibe and some great cocktails but if you're going for the sushi there's better options.

I very much enjoyed my experience at Katsuya. The food is good (I'd recommend the Black Cod) and servers were very nice. Unfortunately, the food takes quite a while to get to the table. We waited about 10 minutes to be helped when we sat down, another 15 for our drinks, and then about 25 minutes for our food, which included an order of edamame. If you are in a rush, I would not recommend this restaurant. If you are not and don't mind waiting around, then absolutely give it a shot.

The whole experience was terrible. From the time the valet took my car, trying to exhort a higher fee than the already excessive parking charge, to terrible hosts who screeched each time someone new was sitted in the dining room. Our server had too many tables to take care of so the service was slow to none. The food was oily and not very good. The dining room had no ambiance, it was dark and dingy. Will not go back and will not recommend to others.

The sushi here was awesome. If you don't have the Baked Crab Hand Rolls, you're missing out. Or try something different and get the Crab and Mozzarella but it can feel you up quickly. And if you're wanting just normal sushi without the presentation and fanfare, then this isn't the place for you.

Dinner was amazing, the waiter was absolutely awful! Sushi and entire meal were fresh and delicious! Waiter: Everything was wrong, and he blamed us. Never wrote down one word, and couldn't remember what we ordered, and forgot to order. Every round had something wrong: drinks, apps, entrees, and dessert. (Forgotten or wrong...). Not busy... We went to the manager/hostess in order to save our dessert. Hostess and manager were delightful!

Great place to before and/or after a show at the Pantages. It is a no brainer for us. The restaurant is always full, always loud and the food always delicious. The halibut cheeks were fantastic and the special sushi, which 50% of the cost went to support breast cancer, was equally as good. The challenge is always what to order among the many appetizing choices.

Dined there on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Had tickets to see "Jersey Boys" at the Holywood Pantages. There were several restaurants in the area, but one of the pluses was the 15% discount if you had tickets for the show on that evening. It was also great that the restaurant opened at 4:00 in order for us to make the 6:30 show. The restaurant was very nice inside, the service was great and so was the food. The server was very helpful in recommending certain dishes for our table. We really enjoyed the food, and would recommend it to anyone.

I came here for my wedding anniversary over the weekend which was made clear to the restaurant when I booked the reservation. We were originally seated squeezed in a corner inches away from other people. I requested a nice seat seeing how it was our anniversary. We were told the other tables were for larger parties, however they never even filled up the entire time we were there. Finally, after about 15 minutes we were able to sit at a nicer table. The food was great, but slow to come out and the waiter was not attentive to us at all. Definitely not what I was expecting for our anniversary dinner and I wont be in a rush to come back.
