Diner Reviews
  • "I have been here a few times and on this visit I was surprised how casual and out-of-uniform the wait staff looked. It was hard to discern who was a server to be honest. Our waitress was lovely and knowledgable, but it became clear quickly that her section was split and we waited long times between being sat, having our order taken and food served. We gave up on dessert after sitting for 15 minutes and never getting our order taken. I think the food her is superior, and the wait staff is good, but I think management needs to look at how this restaurant is being run. Don't think I would seek out this restaurant again. Certainly not the level of service I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. Felt more like a diner."

  • "Drinks and food were good. Our waiter, David?, was totally expressionless. He seemed cold and distant. Our table was cleared too fast. I still had chopsticks in my hand, for Pete's sake! Let me enjoy my time and meal!"

  • "Go to the katsuya in Hollywood. The one at the Americana is a joke. Bad service, very limited menu, but the prices are the same. So, you're better off going to the real deal in Hollywood. "

  • "Had unfairly pre-judged Katsuya as an inauthentic, chain-like restaurant. Pleasantly surprised to find it's not. Food was above expectations, ambience on the outdoor patio watching shoppers go by was interesting, service was friendly and eficient, and prices were fair given consideration to what their rent in the Americana must be. All in all, a nice experience. Planning to go again sometime soon."

  • "We wen to Katsuya with friends and I was a tad concerned as there had been some negative reviews about the staff and the food. Happily - not our experience at all. Our waitress was stellar and the hostess, sweet. I liked the variety of food choices and, the cocktails were a wonderful surprise. Creative, fresh, unique and tasty, I'd go back just for those!"

  • "Tapas style dining so it's great for sharing! Sashimi and sushi were outstanding. Highly recommend the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer - so tasty. Great selection of sake too. Outdoor seating provides a great view of the Americana. Staff was very attentive and knowledgable."

  • "Food is good but service is poor. The servers are nice but slow, you have to ask for things multiple times and they still forget."

  • "This place is awesome!! Very unique menu. Crispy rice and frozen beer are a must. Grade A quality ingredients and sushi. Great location as well. Niguel is an awesome host if you're looking for a group party."

  • "Nothing ends the day better than the spicy mandarin cosmo and the crispy rice. Great Happy Hour - very reasonable prices! Good service in a nice location! Will definitely go back!"

  • "The smaller sized portions are great for gabbing and people watching."

  • "We felt like we were @ Denny's , everybody was running around, not a very nice and relaxed dinner experience and we were rushed out of the resturant."

  • "Great food and service. Fun outdoor seating where you can enjoy the musical lighted fountains at the Americana."

  • "We have been to Katsuya many times, this time on Tuesday night we were disappointed with the food quality. For example: There was waaay too much sauce on the Brussel Sprout Appetizer which is usually a favorite. (we ordered two orders and they were both ruined with sloppy sauce. One of the rolls we ordered was made very poorly, so there were piles instead of slices of the roll. Maybe just an off night and I wish we would have sent the appetizer back but that is always risky so we didn't do that. We would try the restaurant again perhaps in the future."

  • "Im from London, but visit LA frequently.. I feel like I'm becoming a local at the Glendale spot as its very convenient to catch up with friends and a great place to wine & dine. Love the outdoor seating with the view of the Amerincana fountain, always a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff! Wish Katsuya would come to London soon!!"

  • "The atmosphere and staff were amazing. The food was incredible and came out very fast!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The outdoor mall atmosphere is reminiscent of Disneyland, and the cocktail menu is uninspired, but the sushi is hands down competitive with the best, most sophisticated in LA. I'm a fan."

  • "My wife and I were emailed a gift card. After enjoying a fantastic meal with friendly service, we were presented with the bill. We paid our waiter with an ecard, and waited for a long period. A manager returned with the card saying "I didn't even know what this was." Apparently, the transaction could not be completed (even though there was $100 on the card). We were unaware of the 24hr authorization time period that came with the e-card. Instead of the manager trying to help us figure out a solution, she told us to come back tomorrow and use it then. Not a great solution for our current bill. In the end, we felt like this was poorly handled. Also, it seems like guests shouldn't be send unusable gift cards - maybe delay delivery for 24hrs?"

  • "The hostesses and wait staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating -- we made a res for 6, but ended up with 8 -- no problem! Food/drink were terrific too."

  • "For some reason the food was just okay. It's in a weird outdoor mall-y spot with a big fountain... Vegas without the class. :-)"

  • "I have seen other reviews for this Katsuya location on Yelp and other places. I found it as good as the Vine location that everyone raves about. The service was great, and the crispy rice was as good as it is at all the other locations. I'd definitely recommend. The setting wins with the architecture of The Americana, it is a great place for a good time with friends or a great for a romantic date."

  • "Very downscale Katsuya - very disappointing.. Really ugly restaurant - awful furniture."

  • "Went there for the Dine LA menu, great value and good amount of food! My steak was a bit more overdone and my friend who ordered the same thing and service was a bit slow, but we were in a rush to get to a movie. Overall, great value with the Dine LA menu and good quality food!"

  • "My husband and I went to Katsuya - Glendale for the second time hoping to have a better dinner experience in comparison to the terrible lunch experience we had a month prior. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The quality of food and service is far from comparable to the "Katsu-ya Group" brand that we know so well. Besides the menu, the main difference between Katsu-ya Group & Katsuya - Glendale is the latter is Katsuya partnered with SBE Entertainment. Could that be why the quality control between the two are far from comparable? I have a long laundry list of complaints, but in short... I cannot trust a Japanese restaurant that cannot serve a proper bowl of white rice and miso soup, and their's was terrible."

  • "The staff was not prepared for the crowd, nor was the kitchens. Food came out and the servers were overwhelmed, not knpwiong which tables had been served. We were offered the appetizer 2 times!. I'm certain that this will staighten out . The manager was very apologetic and made everything right."

  • "Our server was inexperienced, food came out at a snails pace. Neighboring tables were extremely loud."

  • "Having been here twice before I was beyond dissapointed at the terrible service and mediocre food. Hot food was not hot, waiter inattentive. We waited 20 minutes for edamame and longer for our food than any table around us. When we complained to manager she went to check and told us she would be back to check on things and we never saw her again. Would have expected an apology from the waiter and perhaps a comp drink, but nothing. Restaurant was 1/3 full on busy Thursday nit, no surprise, stay away!!"

  • "Waited 1 hour to get our food. Waitress kept apologizing. Diners who came after us got their food and we did not. Spoke with the manager and the food arrived promptly after that and when we got the check we were surprised that the our bill was slashed in half. Great manager who acted quickly and more than made up for the mishap."

  • "Was very happy with our experience, especially since for one of my friends who came along had never dined at Katsuya before. Unfortunately, he's prone to bad experiences at almost all the restaurants we frequent. This is the first time in a few years that he was raving about his food. His order was a simple one -- chicken teriyaki. He indicated the chicken was extremely tender, and that he like the way the vegetables were incorporated into the dish. This simple order was cooked perfectly and presented like a more expensive gourmet entree. He, and subsequently we, were very happy with our experience on New Year's Eve."

  • "Brought some friends for their first time here after raving about the food and we all enjoyed our choices very much but the excessively slow service put a damper on things, especially when one entree came out about 25 minutes before the others and one was wrong. Our servers were nice but weren't apologetic about the delay and offered no explanation. However, it won't keep us from coming back because once we finally got our meals they were super yummy! Good thing we had lots to chat about and weren't in any hurry."

  • "Not as upscale in feel or decor as the other Katsuyas we've been to, the food and service were still delightful."
    Dined on 1/4/2014
  • "We had a very good dinner, outside with very good heaters and very nice scenery at the Americana mall with dancing fountains. It was New Year's Eve and we ate gluten-free dairy free, the staff was very accommodating, service was slow but friendly."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "The food and the ambiance are pretty good. My main complaint is the haphazard service. Dishes are were supposed to be served together arrive at random intervals (as long as 30 minutes!). Starters (e.g., sashimi) arrive halfway through the meal. For a place that has been there for several years, this is not satifactory"

  • "I just took a date to Katsuya in Glendale, having never gone to the Americana before. The atmosphere was really beautiful, but it was a bit loud and the outdoor chairs and tables appeared cheap. They sat us right up against the glass, which would have been nice on the other side of the restaurant but our side felt extremely crowded. The mall also had this fake snow come out every hour. My date loved that and I thought it was beautiful, but I could see how that would get annoying to other people. The food was great but the drinks were much better at the Katsuya in LA live. The waiter was really nice and got everything right, but kept making terrible suggestions for food and drinks."

  • "The service at this place is horrible! Our food and drinks took over 30 minutes!"

  • "If your looking for a place to eat that serves a great selection of food while being able to take in a nice view, this is the place. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a nice drink menu to start you out and I highly recommend the spicy creamy rock shrimp as an appetizer. As for your main dish, I highly recommend that you choose several different items and share as there are too many to list. Great prices and the service is quick even when busy."
