Diner Reviews
  • "Love the food and drinks!!!!!!! Come often and love it every time even more. Highly recommend It"

  • "I have been to Katsuya in LA and was so excited to try the South Beach location. It was nothing like the experience I had previously in LA. The space seems cramped with seating so close I could hardly get into my seat without hitting the table next to me. I had requested a private table far in advance and that was not honored. The atmosphere was a huge turnoff, and I was really let down! On a positive note the food was very good but not good enough to make up for everything else."

  • "The food was delicious! The Brussels Sprouts and crispy rice with spicy tuna are a must. The service was outstanding. Our server was very attentive and made great suggestions on what to order. I highly recommend this place!"

  • "From the moment you walk in you are greeted by everyone showing appreciation for you being there. From the busboy to the knowledgeable waiters it becomes an dining experience. Food are good portions well presented and delicious. Good wine list not overly priced. A great place to dine with family and friends."

  • "It was my one year anniversary and the seats are so close to each other the guy sitting next to me smelled like cigarettes . We got up and left it wasn't personal at all."

  • "Good food, great service. Server was very knowledgeable. Food was a good portion, not too much, not too little. I had the yellowtail w/ jalapeno. It was dry, and I've had better at other spots, at 1/2 the price. But the best is at Nobu! (Pricey but worth it). Crispy Brussels sprouts were delish. I also had the lobster dynamite. But the lobster was masked with the "dynamite" sauce it came with, too rich that you miss the taste of the lobster so I just brushed it off the top. My partner had the wagyu tobanyaki and he enjoyed it."

  • "What an amazing place! Booked 2 weeks in advance. Read up on the menu beforehand and came in knowing vaguely on what we wanted to eat. Staff gave us an explanation on popular items on the menu and a bit of history about the venue. Gave us some recommendations and was exactly what we wanted which was the tasting menu. Tasting menu was fantastic. Service was exceptional. Great music playing in the background. Great atmosphere with chefs in the kitchen welcoming all guests arriving through the door. Highly recommended place to visit in Miami. Thanks for making our anniversary dinner an amazing experience."

  • "This was my 2nd visit, just as wonderful as the first. Nicely dressed crowd! Classy people! Servers were polite and very attentive. Crispy rice with tuna appetizer, lovely twist! Seared tuna with Japanese salsa, lovely! My absolute favorite miso-marinated black cod, yum yum! Melts in your mouth! Can't wait for my next visit!"

  • "I really enjoyed Katsuya when I went! Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so we went out to the bar next door that had an amazing cocktail menu! When we came back in, we were escorted to our table. The menu really outdid itself! Jane, our waitress was very friendly and we never needed to call for her. We had cocktails off their menu, which were divine, some of the sushi options and the specials. I couldn't get enough! Anjow, was quick to clean up our empty plates and cleaned off the table. All in all, this restaurant really lived up to the hype, as far as menu execution, service and overall ambiance. Very hip and a must for any foodie!"

  • "Loved the place. Sea Bass entree was highlight of our meals. Spicy drinks on cocktail menu were excellent: had both. However; seating for 2 is uncomfortably close to surrounding table. Was part of both conversation at either side of my table. I know good South Beach restaurants are full to capacity; but this is ridiculous. Will not be back anytime soon because of seating situation; even though the food and scene was great."

  • "I don't understand why people love this place so much. It was OK, and way overpriced. My friend and I had an early dinner there, spent $150 between us both, and I left hungry :( soooo yea, unless someone else is paying, I'm not going back."

  • "Katsuya at SLS hotel south beach was pretty good. The food was good, service was pretty good. However, it was not as energetic as the one in Los Angeles on Hollywood Blvd. But overall, we had a good time and I would recommend this place for those who are up for some fine Japanese dining."

  • "We just love everything about this place, the food is amazing, love the variety of the menu, service is awesome, it's a true hotspot. There is a bar outside called Hyde, it's a little challenging to get in to, but totally worth it..... We go every time we get the chance."

  • "The food was very good. Nice sized tapa-like portions with a diverse menu of options rarely seen elsewhere. A bit pricey but it's South Beach. No ambience to speak of."

  • "Very cool place. We sat upstairs where there were comfy couches to sink into and sip drink. Yes, drink. The service was pretty slow at 11pm in the packed SoBe hipster place to be. Food was beautiful and delicious, but don't go if you are hungry! Having been to SoBe's trendy spots, this is what I expected. We all had a great time."

  • "Went with girlfriend and had the omakase dinner, was wonderful and was worth the $75 plenty of food. Server was very helpful, friendly, attentive and fast. I would go back in a heartbeat. Only complaint would be that the tables are very close together, they really pack them in here."

  • "Love, loved, loved this place. The rock shrimp sushi roll And crunchy tuna roll were among the best sushi I've ever had - and I used to go to matsuhisa in the late '80s :)"

  • "Me and my best friends came here because I heard that this is one of Miamis top restaurants and we were going for a high scale appeal. This restaurant was just that! Collectively we had Lambcomps, Creamy Rock Shrimp, Wagyu Beef with Foie Gras, Rock Shrimp Tempura Roll, & Watermelon Cucumber Mojitos. We tasted each others food and it was superb. I expected the Wagyu Beef to be bigger but it was still delicious. Our Mojitos was refreshing but us ladies like something stronger. The only downfall is that one of the ladies had to wait on their food longer than the others. Other than that, the food and scenery was great. "

  • "Went with 8 of my friends last night and everything single dish was wonderful. The crispy chicken salad will be the best salad of your life. Their rock shrimp was also very close to Zuma & Nobu's version. Sashimi was wonderful as well and everything was great for sharing. I ordered 2 edamame, rock shrimp, sashimi sampler and 1 class wine and that was $90 before gratuity. Great everything but you will have to pay "

  • "The food really was amazing! The crispy tuna was to die for! Cost wise it really wasnt overpriced and the overall experience was great! (Also fab for people watching). Only thing to remember is its definately small portions and based more on taste than quantity."

  • "if you really want to go to a place full of want to be's that try too hard, then this is the place to find them. If you want a cool vibe or good sushi, go somewhere else. 3 people, 6 plates and some sake = $500. what a joke. Being a local, i won't be back anytime soon."

  • "Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Katsuya. The food was very good but the service was awful. Our waitress did not offer any suggestions on well known or popular items even after asking if it was our first time dining there. She was clearly disinterested/overworked. We were not checked on throughout the meal and couldn't find her when it was time to order dessert. Additionally, our water glasses were never refilled and it seemed like there was utter chaos throughout the dining room. When we finally did order dessert, it took 10 minutes for the waitress to let us know that they were out of one flavor. "

  • "Amazing fois gras, very good and tasty Rolls but the best was the steak with fois gras, great combination real gourmet. Also fried rice with spicy tuna was amazing. It costs but is valuable: 90$ per person is a right budget"

  • "Our group found the service is too fast giving the impression they needed us out to make way for the next people coming in. You need to slow it down so your clients can enjoy & take it all in. "

  • "The food was delicious but we found the service a too fast in-between courses. Felt like we had to eat and run. "
    Dined on 4/18/2014
  • "If you do not mind condensation dripping on your head and food, then this is the place for you! Mid-meal you will find yourself watching a waiter cleaning the ceiling with a 20ft pole. #headsup. Food was excellent, service was great, ambience was decent. Aside from having to move our table due to air conditioning issues, it was a quality night. p.s. Not cheap..."

  • "We did the Omakase - chef's tasting menu. The sushi and sashimi were fantastic - fresh and flavorful. The in between dishes of shrimp and chicken skewers were mediocre and detracted from the otherwise excellent fish. Atmosphere was stylish and charged. Total cost was $215 for two, including one cocktail and one soft drink. I would return and order only fresh sashimi and sushi. Also, the welcoming calls to new guest arrivals from the open kitchen was a little silly, and frankly grew more annoying as the evening went on. Really not necessary to yell out in chorus each time.... I would also mention that prices should really be listed on the cocktail menu. Nobody likes surprises..."

  • "Food was delish and service was really good. They accidentally brought us the wrong dish and immeidately got us the correct one and left the other one for us on the table. Pretty inside and nice ambiance. I am excited they are opening in NYC."

  • "I seriously don't get the Zuma thing, but this review is about Katsuya. Great room, and the menu and food is creative and delicious. Great presentation. The best black cod I have ever tasted and those cripsy brussel sprouts are worth the trip alone. Can't wait to go back. Sake menu is great! We all know how bad the service can be in Miami well Katsuya seems to have figured out a good training program. Server was genuine, connected and friendly and everyone from the food runners to the servers and hosts were knowledgeable and friendly. Add to your "must do" list."
