Diner Reviews
  • "What a great dinner we had! Room is beautiful, service was outstanding and our food was so good. Great dinning experience."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Both the food and ambiance were fanastic. Kevin did a great job at recommending some wonderful dishes based on what we told him we liked."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Food was good though expensive and the service was excellent. Much quieter than Bazaar which is next door in the hotel lobby."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Food was delish and service was really good. They accidentally brought us the wrong dish and immeidately got us the correct one and left the other one for us on the table. Pretty inside and nice ambiance. I am excited they are opening in NYC."

  • "I seriously don't get the Zuma thing, but this review is about Katsuya. Great room, and the menu and food is creative and delicious. Great presentation. The best black cod I have ever tasted and those cripsy brussel sprouts are worth the trip alone. Can't wait to go back. Sake menu is great! We all know how bad the service can be in Miami well Katsuya seems to have figured out a good training program. Server was genuine, connected and friendly and everyone from the food runners to the servers and hosts were knowledgeable and friendly. Add to your "must do" list."

  • "We made a reservation and showed up without being told that there was a full, 3 day party taking place with the soundstage directly outside the restaurant. Getting through the throng to the restaurant was barely achievable but the noise level inside made dining or otherwise talking impossible. No one else was there that night but its buyer beware that they could well be placing partygoers ahead of diners without telling you."

  • "The food was consistently delicious and attractively-prepared at this branch of Katsuya, which has locations in other high-visibility locales such as West Hollywood and New York. Our experience, though, was surprisingly untouristy. The servers were pleasant and helpful, the decor was eye-catching and the sushi was excellent. We had the tasting menu, which gave us a lot for the money, at least by NY standards. I would go back in an instant."

  • "Katsuya was worth the trip to South Beach! We went for a friend's birthday and it was perfect for the special occasion. This was not a place for a quiet sedate dinner, but if you want a dining experience with fabulous food, this is the place to go. I have been fortunate to dine at some hi-end, big name sushi places and this was among the best. The chef's tasting menu is ideal, adding other dishes if you are adventurous. The creamy rock shrimp, the salmon with the onion chutney and the donuts are the outstanding memorable dishes for me, but all the food was amazing. It was expensive but worth it! The only downside was the tables were packed closely in to one another which can be bad if you want more privacy and romance."

  • "This restaurant came highly recommended and didn't disappoint on any level. Service was excellent - attentive without being intrusive. Great advice about the menu...which at first glance is pretty daunting - everything we chose was top class. Amazing ambience. And, coming from London, I can say, pretty good value!"

  • "Katsuya is always a must do when we are in the Miami area. We have dined here several times and its is always excellent. The food is outstanding, Rock Shrimp is amazing! Our waiter Kevin is also fantastic and makes some excellent recommendations, so far he has served us a couple of times and his recommendations have always been perfect. Will definitely be back!"

  • "My daughter and I went to Katsuya on Saturday night. The food was great, the service was excellent and the scene was fantastic! Overall we had a great dinner. As long as you are ok with the trendy vibe, Katsuya is an excellent choice."

  • "Excellent sushi and outstanding presentation of memorable fish. Hot spot on South Beach."

  • "It's not cheap but it's one of the better hotel dining options in South Beach. If you want tasty sushi without the high price tag, try Doroku on Lincoln Road."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "We totally lucked out by staying across from the SLS hotel. This sushi place was recommended from a friend and he did not exaggerate. This sushi was so amazing we went twice in our long weekend trip. I highly recommend but you have to make a reservation so plan ahead."

  • "It's too bad that a great hotel like SLS got stuck with joint like this. Having been to the California Katsuya's in Hollywood & Brentwood. In comparison, this Katsuya in SoBe is an embarrassment. Slow service, disappointing food, and pretty lame ambiance. Avoid."

  • "we had a great time , vey funky! we were staying at the hotel so had a great time !"

  • "Typical of South Beach, this place is in a stunning cacophonous room filled with beautiful people on smartphones. The first thing your server will tell you when you sit down is that the food comes out of four kitchens so they cannot control the order in which your dishes arrive to the table. The result is a completely unstructured meal in which dishes arrive at random. Food is pretty good, but do not expect to have a conversation with your guest, nor leave feeling as if you have had a pleasant dining experience. Still, you can tell everyone you've been there."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "GREAT food and our waitress Erin was AMAZING. It's a bit pricey, but completely worth it. Everything was superb. The ambiance is definitely better in their LA location, but if you are in South Beach looking for sushi/Japanese head to Katsuya you can't go wrong."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "Really disappointed with the robata. Yellow tail burned then under cooked when manager offered another dish. Sashimi was excellent. Wagyu too chunky for such wonderful meat by put the mushrooms with the dish were outstanding. Manager comped the donut dessert and saved the experience but never a good sign if the food needs saving..."

  • "When I dine out on a holiday like Valentine's Day, I am often weary of the food and service. However, we really enjoyed our dinner at Katsuya. The staff were very attentive. Every time you finished a few edamame, someone was there to immediately take the shells away. The food was excellent and couldn't have been happier with the sashimi plate. The scallops were especially buttery and delicious. The only downside of the whole experience was that the tables were spaced very close to one another. So much so that we had to move the table so that I could get back into the bench area (and I'm thin). I'm assuming they packed us in due to V-Day?!"

  • "Fantastic food for everyone although at first blush its a sushi restaurant it is certainly not limited to a sushi menu AND the non-sushi items are not just there to appease those at the table who would opt out of sushi. We had multiple sushi dishes for the table as well as a seared beef and a baked lobster which were unbelievable! Exciting combinations on the menu too - not the same standard stuff. Our waiter was very well informed - and gave just exactly the right amount of attention with out being overly attentive."

  • "I went here with two friends for a late dinner (11:00 pm) and had a great time. Staff was friendly and prompt, seafood was fresh, and the ambiance was great. Restaurant was still about half full but not noisy at all. Server was very knowledgable and thorough. We had a couple of rolls and ate from the robata menu which is great for trying a lot of different things. Only complaint was some of the skewers were kind of small, but they are fitting for the price."

  • "Great place for sushi....too bad they are not open for lunch. The menu should be available by the pool during lunch."

  • "The food and atmosphere of Katsuya were fantastic. The service, however, was slow and unpredictable. The waitress would disappear for long intervals. When a food server came to place another dish on our table, they seemed unsure as to how to remove the empty plates and how to place the new ones. We ordered a nice bottle of cold sake but we started with some warm sake which rather than being served in the traditional carafe made of porcelain, it was served in an iron kettle. If one is in the area I would recommend Nobu. If not limited to just this area, Kenichi in Aspen, CO, or Dallas, TX does a much better job of great service and great sushi. If one must be in this area, however, the sushi itself is good just be prepared for poor service."

  • "Best sushi, crispy rice ever. Marinated black cod! First table shaky and so was second. Also, very, very close together."

  • "It was great! Tried the tasting menu, recomend it 75 and you try a bit of all specials.. the only thing that i can say it chocking is the vallet price, US$30! Should be a bit lower for dinner but... its miami beach right. Coming back again for sure"

  • "I have known Katsuya and eaten his cuisine for over 20 years in So Cal. I love his smaller restaurants. The franchises are good, and use his recipes but they just don't have the personal attention that is provided at the owner's shops. The prices are higher and though good, they are not as good as the original."

  • "Katsuya's reputation in NYC is upheld in Miami. Great sushi, terrific service and great people watching. Even saw a very famous star or two!"
    Dined on 2/3/2014
  • "I have eaten at Nobu several times, so I decided to try something different and give Katsuya a try. Located at the hip SLS hotel on South Beach......the food really matched the decor. They did not rely solely on neither their location or decor....but they served up some of the best food on South Beach. We decided to try something from every part of their menu to give a real variety......and we were not disappointed. The food was both delicious and beautifully presented. If you are fan of Nobu, then give Katsuya a try."

  • "The experience was more pleasant then expected. The service was extremely accommodating and the food was delicious. We had a young child with us and they were not overwhelmed but enjoyed the happening experience. The only negative was the size of the plates used throughout the meal were very small."

  • "To sum it up: The Sushi was absolutely fantastic. We had about 5 sorts of sushi plates and 2 desserts and they were all awesome, special and freshly made. The rastaurant is located in one big hall/room and was really crowded. Service was good, but sometimes quite slow. Had to wait 1/2 hour for our dessert. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner (went there at 8pm) and would definately come back. Costs are adequate concerning the quality of the food."
