Kata RobataA RegularI would like to say that I am a regular there, but it's more like Kata Robata is my regular place! I go there so often and LOVE it everytime. Lobster Mac and Pork Belly with the egg is what I get every time. I also LOVE the happy prices. Crunchy rolls and tuna tar tar start off the night perfectly. Our waiter, whose name I sadly never caught because of the noise, was well-versed in the menu and offered excellent recommendations that were focused on helping us have a wonderful dining experience, rather than pushing us to specific items. We're always excited to look at the specials of the day. My wife & I are adventurous eaters & are always willing to try new items no matter how unusual they may be. We have visited pretty much every highly rated sushi restaurant in Houston & we always look forward to coming back to Kata. This restaurant has a modern take on sushi - the good traditional sushi menu is their in addition to the modern, edgy take on sushi. The Kata-jito drinks are amazing - Our favorites are the bone marrow, foie gras & scallops, & 72 hr cooked kobe beef. We prefer this place over Uchi. The service is always excellent. Friday and Saturday nights can be hectic, and the service will suffer slightly, depending on the waiter/waitress you get. Great items. However the Sunlight dish- slices of peppercorn tuna with truffle oil wasn't very pleasing. Too much pepper and the truffle didn't really do too well with it. This may be due to the way it was served. Don't get the Sushi of this dish, be sure to ask for the sashimi. We had several plates. the sushi rolls (we had the Rising Sun roll and the Longhorn roll) were excellent. The slow cooked Kobe beef was incredible. We tried the amberjack and fois gras dish, apparently it is award winning. We were disappointed. It was fine, but we will not order it again. If we do go back, we are sticking with the sushi (and the kobe beef). Oh yeah, servings are small - tapas style. EXCEPT the lobster mac and cheese is huge.
