  • "As a native Chicagoan returning to visit friends after many years away, I found this a perfect place for my husband and me (both vegan) to go with omnivore friends. We toasted to our friendship with the house "flight" of prosecco, violet liqueur and st. germain. We all loved the "chorizo" sliders as starters. Some entrees we particularly enjoyed were the raw tamales and barbecue seitan. Karyn's gave us a semi-private table behind a screen of grass, and everyone took great care of us!"

  • "I am a cook. One of the few regular outlets that I have for creative output is mealtime. Accordingly, I think one of the best measures of a dish is how much calls out to me, "Do this again!" Both my crab Benedict and my partner's chorizo sandwich were mouthwatering, and the whole time through the meal, we discussed how we'd recreate these masterpieces. Very enjoyable. 5/5."

The portions are very generous , the black bean soup divine , portobello mushroom hearty , salads a+, The fries dangerously good . The service, pacing of the meal needs major work . There was a gap of 30+minutes between our appetizers and entree. That was abit much but it was still an enjoyable evening ."

  • "We've been to this restaurant several times and have enjoyed each visit. Overall, this is a fabulous restaurant! This time, however, there were a couple of mishaps, which is totally forgivable given our previous experiences. Anyone/place can have an off day. However, my family and I were celebrating my husband's birthday, so it would have been nice for everything to run smoothly. The service was on point, and they adjusted our bill, which I appreciated. Thank you, Karyn's for providing healthy options!"

  • "The kitchen is undergoing a transition. The new chef's practice food was beautiful and memorable. I felt lucky to be in on the experiments. (ok, as someone who likes strong tastes, I thought sometimes that beauty was being prioritized over intensity and sweetness over the savory.) The old standards are still there: the astonishing Brussels sprouts, the cheese plate, the chicken legs and crabcakes. As usual the wait staff was wonderful. The deserts (cheesecake, chocolate cake, etc etc) are not inspired these days but people like them."

  • "This was my second visit to Karyn's on Green and I was just as impressed as the first time. And while I am vegetarian (not vegan though), the four friend with me are full blown carnivores. There were various degrees of love, for Karyn's, among them, but all agreed that they would most definitely return. My only complaint is the use of "meat" verbiage on the menu. I think it sets up certain expectations for non-vegetarians/vegans that aren't going to be met fully. And being vegetarian, myself, the use of "meat" description of dished is unappealing ...not sure how they could remedy that, though. Aside from that minor "gripe" I love Karyn's and look forward to my next visit!"

  • "We did a ladies dinner here on Sunday night, none of us had been but decided to try somewhere out of our comfort zone. One of my friend si 8 months pregnant and they were accommodating to her dietary and personal requests. The mocktails were delicious!!!!! We opted for one of those instead of regular dirnks because they just sounded so good and they didn't disappoint. the food was excellent as well. My only complaint was the "chicken wings" I am a vegetarian and was excited about this..but it was essentially Morning star tenders on a plate with some BBQ sauce. i would tried something else. All our main dishes were amazing! I would recommend this place to friends but take heed..no meat...or dairy here."

  • "I am not a vegan, but I love the food at Karyn's. It is always excellent, but also mysterious to me. For example, I know that the fish tacos don't have fish in them, and that the cheesecake doesn't contain cheese, yet each tastes as good or better than the real thing. I don't know know how they do it, but I am glad they do. It's a great experience. Usually, I go there for dinner. This time, I went for lunch, and the service was very slow due to limited staffing. I've never had a problem with the service at night, so I don't know if my most recent experience was a one time thing or typical for lunch."

  • "I had been to Karyn's on Green before for dinner (which was excellent), and had heard from a few people how good the brunch is too. It completely delivered! The sweets table, delicious coffee, mimosas, and per usual, delicious, creative, flavorful vegan entrees. All of this and they had a live jazz band playing! I really love going to Karyn's. Whenever I'm there I say that I can't believe it's not more crowded- I think it's one if the best vegan restaurants in the city, personally. But, I guess in also glad it's not too crowded because that means it's still accessible and enjoyable, and makes it feel that much more like the gem it is."

  • "I am continually surprised and pleased by how delicious the food is at Karyn's on Green. I sampled several appetizers that I can't wait to eat again. I tend to eat cooked food, but the flavors of the raw options are fabulous. I especially recommend the maki rolls and the raw cheese plate. If you are in a hurry, you will have to follow-up and flag down the servers. We told both the busser and the server that we needed to order quickly since we had to leave for a concert. It took an additional ten minutes each to get the server to bring the check and then to pick it up in order to pay. If you have time for a leisurely dining experience, however, this is the place to be!"

  • "I had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time, and finally had the chance when my vegan friend from out of town came to Chicago. It was worth the wait and all the hype. Everything I had was delicious, and the chocolate souffle for dessert was one of the best desserts I have ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant. The interior was beautiful, spacious, and could be perfect for a casual or romantic night out. I have already recommended this to a few people and will continue to do so."

  • "I visited Karyn's for the first time with a friend and even though I am a meat lover, I really enjoyed it. The dining room is lovely and I was surprised at how reasonably priced it was. We had arugula flatbread for an appetizer and it was delicious! It was a rather large appetizer and we ate all of it. For dinner, I had a Teriyaki stir-fry which was good but my friend's spaghetti with spicy marinara was really good. We didn't have any room left for dessert. I paid $52 for 1 appetizer, 2 non-alcoholic cocktails, and 2 entrees. I am not a vegetarian but I didn't miss not having any meat. I will definitely return!!!"

  • "The food was very good (as long as you like lots of herby food) but the service was a little questionable. When we arrived the place was very busy and understood why it took an extra minute for our server to greet us. Once we got started things really slowed way down. I ordered a draft beer which took a half an hour. Next, we ordered our apps and that also took forever. We then ordered dinner and again, took forever - on top of that they forgot our side and all the while, our water glasses were empty. We actually didn't mind the wait because we were in no rush but if we hadn't been... My overall impression was the food very good, you have to try the chicken legs - but the service could use a little make over."

  • "I've been to Karen's at least 4 times now. I feel that every time I go I'm even less impressed. If you are a vegetarian/vegan, you'll love it, for obvious reasons. The service and ambience has always been wonderful, however my experience with the food itself has wained. I leave Karen's now just feeling 'meh'."

  • "I've been wanting to visit Karyn's on Green for a while now. The food was fantastic (I had the portobello mushrooms served over a sweet potato hash with sauteed greens and a balsamic reduction) my friend and I shared sides of grilled veggies (they were ok, I would have preferred them to be less cooked and shrunken) brussel sprouts charred with a dijon glaze and quinoa hush puppies. The best part was DESSERT. The hot lava cake was OUTSTANDING. I really enjoyed the ambiance for a date night or with an intimate dinner with a small group of friends (no more than 3 or 4 I'd say) I enjoyed the music tremendously and the fact that it was loud enough to hear but did not interrupt conversation. Can't wait to go back again."

  • "A lovely place. They have an unusual menu. It was hard for us to narrow our choices. My date loved the butternut squash soup. She said "It's so fresh!" I had the Korean Steak Rice Bowl, which was awesome. We shared a vegan cheesecake which we agreed was better than the real thing (because it was lighter). The atmosphere was tasteful with a nice ambiance. Our waiter was top notch. Karyn herself made the rounds and was a gracious host. An overall lovely experience."

  • "Nice atmosphere, though felt music choice during our visit didn't quite fit what we like/expected Loved the menu organization, and item identification as GF, NF, Raw etc. Had crab slider and quinoa hush puppies (side) with coconut curry dipping sauce for apps. Great! Entrees included Roasted Portobello with root vegetables - Outstanding! and a Korean BBQ was really good but the portobello was our favorite. Had a very nice mocktail, chairman cobbler , really bright and refreshing. Also had a cocktail, Herbal Overlord that included absinthe. Very interesting flavor profiles that developed across your entire palate as you sipped. I liked it. Finished with a "vanilla cheesecake".. OK.. it's probably unfair to compare to "real" cheese cake"

  • "My bf and I spent 3 hours there on valentines day, not by choice. We got there at 9:15 (our reservation was for 9:30) and they brought each thing out so slowly (we opted for the 5 course meal but did not expect it to take so long)... and we did not leave until midnight. Definitely did not expect to spend THAT long there, which was a huge bummer. We are fairly regular customers to Karyns but are not so sure next time about choosing that are our place for a special occasion."

  • "The drinks were fantastic. We had the All about Eve from their special menu and this Gin based cocktails was delicious. We also tried the TreeTini, a cocktail that does the world good by planting a tree for each drink ordered. The TreeTini was sweet but with a bite and perfectly balanced. The food was out of this world. Appetizers included a tapenade, zucchini wraps and some amazing salads. My entree was their "crab cakes" and it was cooked to perfection. A crisp fried cake with a firm texture and flavors I have not been able to achieve at home. And the desserts!!!!! The brownie was warm and a hard to achieve balance of gooey and crisp!"

  • "We had reservations on Valentine's Day, still had to wait 10 minutes after our reserved time to be seated - no big deal in itself. We then made our selections off the prix fixe menu; appetizers and entrees. The appetizers were not cooked items. One was a plate of some crackers with an olive tapenade, and the other was a small zucchini wrap. Reservations at 1030, and no food touched the table until around 1145. It took literally an hour for the appetizers to get there, and no one checked on us or apologized. Thankfully we had a bottle of wine to keep us company. I'm rarely the type to complain at a restaurant, and especially on Valentine's day, we just made the best of it. It was just a really bad experience, service-wise. Good food, though."
