Diner Reviews
  • "Menu has changed since we were last here. Very limited menu, miss the edamame they used to give. One dish was too spicey and they were very accommodating to redo it and it was very tasty. They need more variety ."

  • "This beautiful restaurant with tranquil pond and decor is an elegant place in an unlikely location. Although it has been in the hotel that has undergone many franchises over the years, it is seldom crowded. The Asain food is very good, the service outstanding. Hope that more people find their way here."

  • "I hate leaving neg. reviews-will usually just say nothing-but we were disappointed on last visit, which used to be one of our favorite restaurants, a hidden gem for the area. Menu is constantly changing-which is fine as long as the new selections are as good or better than previous. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The food was just okay, I'm being generous giving it 3 stars, fish portions were small, the imaginative & tasty accompaniments that used to fill the plate were absent. You still can't beat the wonderful ambiance, soothing, peaceful. Our waitress was great - she really tried hard, but couldn't spin straw into gold. We'll definitely give it another chance, everyone's entitled to an off night - and hope that's all it was."

  • "We had never been to Karma before. What a wonderful surprise noir waiter Gilberto was one of the best servers we have ever had. He explained the menu, gave suggestions and guided us through a wonderful meal. The crispy tuna was to die for. We will go back!"

  • "Interesting menu with nice execution of most dishes. Cuisine is hard to categorize but generally can be described as Asian fusion. The room is lovely and the service is welcoming, helpful and friendly. The noise level allows easy conversation but that's because the restaurant is often fairly empty - something I can't understand. If you are in the area this is a great place to visit."

  • "We went for the Mother's Day Brunch, and it was great! Just what we wanted for a nice brunch. Good selection of breakfast foods, prime rib, salmon, fruit (with a chicago skyline sculpture in watermelon), and a great dessert table. "

  • "Great first experience at Karma. Solid offering of food, which tasted great. Service was quick and thorough. The atmosphere/ambience was unique and cool."

  • "We had a table for 11 and everyone loved the brunch. The food was great, plenty of options and the desserts were fantastic. "

  • "I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years. The food is always top notch and is beautifully and uniquely presented. We tried the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer for the first time because our waiter suggested it and it was fabulous. Service is always impeccable. I highly recommend Karma. It's not easy to find this establishment, but it is definitely worth the trip."

  • "Appetizers were great, entrees were only so so. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgable. Very limited dessert menu"

  • "Karma is attached to the Doubletree, so has spurts of business from meetings at the hotel, but is usually not crowded when we've been there for Friday night dinners. There is a wonderful wall fountain and pools of water for a peaceful ambiance. The noise level rating was due to the Blackhawks playoff game in the bar area. Normally, it would be much quieter. Menu has unusual Asian themed entrees - a fairly small selection with lots of wasabi. I had a red snapper noodle dish - like a soup - which was fabulous. "

  • "Love the atmosphere here. It is so calming and warm. There is a gentle waterfall and a little pond with lillies in the middle of the restaurant. I have never been here for dinner, only the Easter Brunch. I am gluten free so eating dinner here would not be possible. I really wish they would get on board with a gluten free menu or gluten free soy sauce. II would love to have a nice dinner here with the hubby. The staff here is attentive and friendly. The brunch was average. Nothing special, but we enjoy the service and atmosphere here for Easter brunch. There is no long line or crazy noise level. Had a nice time. "

  • "Karma is, to say the least, a most unique restaurant. The Asian fusion cuisine is thoughtful and delicious, the service was conscientious and most friendly and the ambience was absolutely intriguing without being distracting. So much to soak in without taking away from the food and company. This is NOT your usual hotel restaurant. Highly recommended."

  • "We have always had excellent food here. We tried the ribs and mentioned that they did not meet the quality of everything else. The restaurant humble apologized and comped the ribs and dessert without us expecting anything. Customer service is always first here."

  • "The breakfast buffett is excellent with lots of good items including croissants, zucchini bread and muffins plus fruit, yogurt and more. This is definitely a cut above other breakfast buffets. In addition to the hot food offerings, they will cook an omelette to order -- all very good."

  • "Every time we stay at the Doubletree Hotel we enjoy eating at Karma located inside the hotel. The atmosphere is great with the central water feature and the Asian inspired food always good."

  • "My wife and I found Karma through an Open Table email, Romantic Spots for Valentine's Day. I was also looking for a place to celebrate her birthday, since it is close to Valentine's Day. Karma seemed intriguing, so I made the reservation. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The space is great. The small touches, from the large folding panels, which double as service doors and the indoor pond, combined to set the atmosphere. The food was great. We split Drunken Mussels and a Carpaccio appetizers, both were outstanding. The entrees we had were filet mignon and Korean BBQ Ribeye, both of which were executed perfectly. Everything came together to give us an amazing evening."

  • "This was our first time visiting this restaurant. We were celebrating our anniversary. Friendly greeting upon our arrival by the manager. All the tables are neatly situated around an indoor water feature. Our waiter Gilberto was professional, knowledgeable of the menu, friendly and made some great recommendations. The food was excellent, served hot and timely. We started with appetizers, Firecracker shrimp and lettuce wraps. Both were outstanding! The wine selection was good and Gilberto offered selections to accompany our dinner choices. The Mahi Mahi and BBQ salmon were wonderful!! We will be returning to this local neighborhood gem and recommend it to our friends."

  • "Our server was very helpful, checking in after each dish was delivered. The spinach salad was ok, the orange chicken also ok- not as crunchy as I was expecting (does not stand up to Cheesecake Factory orange sesame chicken imo). The rice was amazing. Sitting by the beautiful pond and waterfall was relaxing. We went early on a Friday, it was very quiet-- not full. There were a few children probably because they have a children's menu."

  • "Went here for a lunch meeting. There were two other groups there the entire time. Took almost 30 minutes for orders to come out. Food was fair at best. No ambience. Not sure if it is more of an evening gathering place but for lunch it was terrible."

  • "This is not the Karma we fell in love with when they first opened and throughout these many years. With a new chef, brand new menu and price change, and not for the better, we will reconsider recommending Karma to people for anything other than atmosphere. The signature dishes are no longer on the menu (Calamari salad, mushroom pot stickers, etc), and the one that I remember (filet with wasabe mashed) was cooked too long and not as tasty or juicy, plus some of the new dishes are nothing special (orange chicken was bland and rubbery), and the prices are a little steep for what you're getting now. Sadly disappointed."

  • "This restaurant is a very secluded place where you can dine and have a great selection of wine and great food without hurting your pockets. Very friendly and great service from everyone. It was my first time there and I will be going again."

  • "We had another great meal there for Valentines Day. My husband had the Ribeye and I had the Asian BBQ salmon. I saw that they no longer offer it with the Forbidden Rice, it now comes with potatoes. My suggestion is to go back to the rice."

  • "We arrived 20 mins early and It took that long to get a drink. The bartender never acknowledged us. Another manager came back to take our order. The bartender brought our drinks and never spoke a word. Dirty glasses were there when and never removed the entire time. waitress at dinner was very nice, but our water glasses were never refilled. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water so we could have water. We ordered a bottle of wine, and they were all out of it, so we settled on another. They brought two HOT glasses I'm assuming fresh out of the dishwasher, which made our room temperature wine very warm. I had to put an ice cube in it. The food however was very good! I don't know if I'd go back again."

  • "The staff was very friendly and the service was superb. I had the special, Asian ribs with Asian slaw and rice. Spectacular!!! I am a rib expert and these were tender and as full of flavor as possible. It was a large potion and unfortunaly for me, I could not stop until every bone was picked clean. That and a few glasses of good wine led straight to food coma (straight home and sleeping as if in a coma) no late night dancing. The girls had a prawn and scallop dish with vegetables. Very tasty. We took our time having a drink before dinner and then spent time after just talking. Great dinning room. It was nice be able to talk at normal levels. Great place to catch up with friends or take that special someone for a intimate evening."
