Diner Reviews
  • "Kanishka's serves Indian spiced food but not traditional Indian fare. Many of the names for dishes have a familiar ring (Korma, Masala etc) but more as descriptive flavors for an eclectic, extensive menu of interesting small plates. Confirmed carnivores, We loved several of the vegetarian dishes as well and there is enough selection for everyone, even a children's menu! Focus is interesting selection of beers but wine list was serviceable & well matched to the food. The dining room is fairly small and not noisy for us at 1/2 capacity. If it were crowded) it might be a bit noisy. If so, it is probably just the excitement of people trying dishes with flavors they recognize but completely unique and new tastes at a remarkably low cost!"

  • "This place was fantastic! My only fear is that, because of the eclectic nature of the food, it won't make it in Walnut Creek. Great food..especially for vegetarians, but we meat eaters have plenty of good stuff too. Lamb Sliders!!!! The chicken courses! A great selection of Ales.... Wine list is a little....weak...at least for my woman's taste. Great Service, they care... Great place and will repeat often."

  • "it would have been fine but the noise level is off the chart. We enjoyed the flat bread, shrimp sliders and lamb chops though. Mostly a young crowd. Great TV for watching sports."

  • "What a unique and great find! Off the beaten path of the bland and typical fare, this is an adventure of small plates from around the world with a unique twist. The atmosphere, service, presentation, staff and tapas were excellent and well worth the visit. My only advice, go with a full wallet and do not go hungry! This is an excellent place for small bites and tasters. We ordered 4 Tapas, 2 beers and a wine and the bill was 75 plus. Don't get me wrong, it is worth it but do not expect to leave full, expect to leave uniquely teased by interesting flavors. Other feedback-each plate should come contained with what is needed on the plate to balance the dish. Each dish we ordered was very spicy with little to no elements to balance the heat."

  • "Had a great time at Kanishka's trying out their menu. Tempernillo wine was perfect pairing with their spicy foods. Enjoyed every dish from cheese plate, chicken, steak and shrimp (Special) and beet salad. All was delicious! Server was very attentive and had great suggestions. Definitely will be back for more."

  • "My friends and I tried this place the other night and LOVED it! The menu is diverse and there is something for everyone - as long as you like heat. Almost everything we had was spicy so be prepared. This is what we ordered for three people and it was plenty: 1. Smoked Gouda, Parmisiano 2. Portobella Mushrooms Crostini 3. Papas Bravas Reinvented 4. Manchurian Crispy Prawn-Tini 5. Tandoori-Tini 6. Argentinian Flank Steak 7. Chocolate & Timmerman’s Kriek Strawberry Mouse They do not have a great wine list (although the glass I had was delicious) but their beer list is AWESOME (lots of Belgium beers which are my favorite)! In the end, I am excited to go back and try more of their food!"

  • "I like the concept at Kanishka's, adding a new twist on Indian cuisine. That said the food itself was just so so. For a gastropub, the beer selection was fine but unremarkable. The plates we tried ran the gamut from "That's pretty good " (the papas bravas and Asian shrimp po boy) to "Hmm, weird, kinda tastes like lemon pledge" (the chicken korma poutin). We also had a cheese plate (nothing special). Argenitine Flank Steak was perfectly cooked, but for $15 a small portion even by small plate restaurant standards, and the green chimichurri sauce was, well, a chimichurri sauce. Perhaps this place will continue to experiment and turn into something special- it has the potential. For now, I'd recommend Vanessa's or Sasa before here."

  • "Acustics in the restaurant are terrible. We had two couples behind us that spoke extremely loud, we had to finish our drinks and appetizers and leave, we were unable to stand the noise to complete our meal. The food was fair, the service was not great, we wait almost 15 mins to get a beer and everyone was standing around. I hope it gets better for the owner that put some much into this restaurant. We will not be returning!"

  • "Food was okay but served at room temperature. Salad was not cold, hot dishes not hot. Everything was lukewarm."

  • "We love everything about this place. We had a lamb rice dish, okra taco cups, tandori mahi mahi, lamb chops and three great bears. Everything was excellent and interesting. The service was great too, We'll be back soon."

  • "There lamb sliders on flat bread are the best burger that I have had in the Bay Area. There Lamb Chops are pretty special as well."

  • "This is a great new restaurant in Walnut Creek! Great food with flavors I haven't tasted before. I think the menu is a bit too much and the service was slow but I think that's all because its a new restaurant. I will be going back a lot! I've already recommended this to my friends. So glad we have a great new spot for excellent food!"

  • "We ordered five items ---two great (tandoori salmon and vegetable tempura) , two good (beet salad and ken ebkac fries) and a disappointing eggplant tini. The last was a too cute concept of eggplant in yogurt in a martini glass with fingerling potato halves on a skewer as if it were a food martini. My advice: drop this dish and focus your efforts on improving the salad greens and dressing. Not bad but not top shelf. For the prices if the small plates, these items should sing. It's worth keeping this in mind if you are in walnut creek. Also, post the beer prices on the board too so customers can see what they're buying."
