Kanella is my favorite brunch place. The food is wonderful, and the wait staff helpful and unobtrusive.
The reason I don't say Great for Outdoor Dining, is because it is on a busy street, and the tables are just too close to walkers and street traffic...although I have eaten outside as a last resort...

Great food, good service, as always. This was a special occasion, our daughter was being recognized for receiving a writing award, and we stopped for brunch prior to the ceremony. All of the dishes were excellent, including the homemade sausage and duck egg, and the outstanding roast lamb.

I liked our waiter and his service. He was helpful when we realized we'd forgotten to bring our wine. My husband's whole fish was the best he's had recently (and we just returned from eating a few in Lisbon). My friend's veal pleased him (a visiting Kiwi). My stuffed squid was less interesting--I could have ordered better. On the downside: we were 3 people at a 4-person table in the center and it was hard to hear across the table. We liked it better when the two of us ate earlier and sat along the wall. Didn't seem so noisy although restaurant was full.

Kanella always serves fresh food with tradition, and it's always a boisterous atmosphere. The specials are an excellent alternative when you want something different, but I highly recommend the rabbit. While all of the staff are friendly, I sit in John's section. He's enthusiastic about the food, super friendly, and offers up some great suggestions when asked. And if you're squeamish about filleting the fish yourself, they are more than willing to assist!
