Been dining here for years, has
been consistently exceptional everytime. Try the Green Turtle Roll!!!"

Needed a place to feed my brother
and nephew before my nephew hit the stage at Zanies across the street. Location couldn't be better and the dinning room is beautiful. The service is a little slow for a quick pre show but it is a nice place to linger. Food is very good. I eat allot of Japanese and this was not the best I've had but we were all impressed with the presentation and the deliciousness. Udon noodles with shrimp excellent. Great gomae. Yummy miso and edame very good chicken teriyaki, katsu a little dry. Had two sushi rolls can't remember the names but beautiful and tastey. This was my second time there and I would definitely go back"

Decades-long reputation of
delicious sushi, Kamehachi on Wells is ideal for dinner before heading to Second City. Or just dine at your leisure anytime!"

Me and a buddy came here for
dinner before a birthday party at Corcoran's down the street. Typical sushi and appetizer options, but ambience and service were great. Seating wasn't cramped and didn't have to yell to have a conversation. I would go here again if im in the area."

We love taking my husband's
daughter here when she comes to Chicago, as it is a favorite of ours and we always have a great time, both experimenting with special creations and enjoying the lovely atmosphere."
Dined on 12/27/2013
We took seats at the sushi bar and
enjoyed watching the chefs create edible works of art while we dined. Great service, valet parking. We will be back!"

The veggie options for sushi are
outstanding!! Always a go-to for veggie sushi options."

My girlfriend and I came for by
birthday and everything was just great the service the food and the saki!"

We've been to Kamehachi before,
but not since closing the original location. We decided to give the Wells Street location a try. The food very good as always! The salmon was excellent, and I would cross a busy highway for more of the asparagus beef rolls. The service needs some work though. I had to ask for silverware twice. Getting a drink refill was not easy (we had to ask several times). The server forgot to bring out the wine order. And she forgot one of the appetizers. It wasn't that busy, so I'm not sure if she was new just not good at being a server. Despite the service, I would probably go back."

Our group of 6 had a good time.
Food and service were good and reasonable menu items."
Dined on 12/18/2013
I went with a friend on a Saturday
night at 8 p.m. and it was not crowded. I was easily able to make a reservation an hour before we planned on dining. Because of that I was a little worried, but the food turned out great. We both really enjoyed our rolls and thought the fish all seemed very fresh. We were seated upstairs and it was very quiet and empty. I think I would have preferred to be seated on the main floor. The prices were decent, and I'd come back again."

I wanted to surprise the guy I am
dating for his Birthday. He is really into Japanese culture. I heard about the restaurant on line through the Sites you have to visit in Chicago page. The place was wonderful. Very comfortable, great music, yet very intimate. The service was great. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about certain foods. When she found out it was his birthday, she brought out Green Tea ice cream with a candle. He was really excited. The food was excellent!!! I had the Spicy Shrimp Tempura! Delicious, and we both tried the happy bride Sake. This is a great place to meet with friends of go on a romantic date. I love it and we plan to visit again soon!"
Dined on 12/13/2013
Loved the decor and breakup of the
front bar/cafe seating and back dining room areas. Miso soup comes out quickly - always important! Recommend the Hachi ceviche -unique and delicious and Summer roll. Our table ordered a few other rolls which were all good and a few items of the daily specials which were great."

I love there food...it was great
except there servers took FOREVER! They were a little rude! All I know next time I will be ordering out...won't be dinning there again"
Dined on 11/15/2013
Not much to say about this
resturant. It was decent, we did not have a bad time. The waitress was weird and forgot alot of things but, everything was accomodating. Food was decent yet, slightly overpriced. I enjoyed myself as did my friends"
Dined on 11/22/2013
Great food, fresh fish, huge
portions for sushi. Good find!"
Dined on 11/19/2013
While definitely on the pricey end
of the spectrum, the food is absolutely delicious. The selection of beers, wines, and sake are impressive as well. They even have my all time favorite beer, Hitachino Nest XH Ale, which just spoils your palette. Bring a date and spoil them!"
Dined on 10/1/2013
Kamehachi is consistently strong.
They seem to have the best wait staff in Old Town, both knowledgeable and friendly. The food is outstanding. Don't be afraid of trying new dishes; sure the rolls are good, but they are "western". Go for some more exotic options, you won't be disappointed. ENJOY!"

Went for dinner on a Tuesday
night, with a reservation from Open Table. The restaurant was empty enough that the host didn't even ask under which name it was (may be it was the only reservation that night?). Service is ok, on the slower side. Sushi is great. My wife had a tuna teriyaki hot entrée which was good, not great. It's really a sushi place, period. Very reasonable prices. BYOB. Casual modern décor inside, nothing fancy, pretty relaxed. Outside they have outdoor seating on the street, both on Wells and on Schiller, which we took advantage of."
Dined on 9/11/2013
Atmosphere was relaxing, very
chill. Service was timely and friendly. The food was just "ok". Overall I'd say this place was just average. I would recommend to those that are in the mood for decent sushi and a nice, quiet atmosphere in a good location."
Dined on 9/8/2013
exquisite, healthy food...we were
a group of four and each one of us was pleased: the steak and fingerlings--to die for. I'm not a sushi eater, but the gents loved the "wonder roll" particularly. Pot stickers, miso soup, a cold, healthful spinach dish, and the edamame were each beautifully prepared and tasty."
Dined on 9/1/2013
I keep on asking myself why the
restaurant is not fool. I am concerned that the quality of the food is declining. Plus I hate that Chefs think that we don't know better. I ask for sashimi I got sushi I complained and got back exact same fish but without the rice. They still charge me sashimi price. No bueno."
Dined on 8/31/2013
Great sushi spot. Atmosphere was
relaxed and romantic. Food was delicious. Good wine selection."
Dined on 8/25/2013
we enjoyed our dinner at old
town's kamehachi. fired oysters were good but you only get three, green been tempura came with a green sauce which was OK. Their tempura in general was nothing special. sashimi was acceptable but you didn't get a lot for your money."
Dined on 8/14/2013
It had been several years since my
wife and I had been to Kamehachi, and we used to go a lot when we lived a couple of blocks away, but the old location at Wells and Schiller had gotten rather seedy and it seemed the sushi wasn't as good. The new location is much nicer, larger, and the sushi was great. Presentation was beautiful, ambiance was great and the service was excellent."
Dined on 7/30/2013
The food and drinks were great. We
celebrated a birthday and the night was romantic. Thank you"
Dined on 7/19/2013
Very convenient to the area
especially for those going to Second City down the street. It is good for a quick bite to eat and for a leisurely evening. Everything tasted so clean and flavorful."
Dined on 7/25/2013
We ate here because we were going
to a Second City show and thought this would be easy because it's close. It was very convenient but I wasn't that impressed with the quality of the sushi. We ordered rolls that we typically get from other sushi restaurants and there wasn't a lot of flavor compared to the places we normally go. One thing we did like was the Rock Shrimp starter, that was delicous."
Dined on 7/21/2013
I would absolutely return to this
restaurant next time I visit Chicago."
Dined on 7/4/2013
I was rather disappointed. The
food was good, but not great. I didn't feel thr menu offered much variety or anything interesting that would set this restaurant apart from any other sushi place. Service was beyond slow. We were prepared to order more food and drinks, but by the time we were asked if we needed anything else, we were over it and ready to go. No need to go back"
Dined on 7/8/2013
The toro was divine! I highly
recommend it for those who love seafood/tuna. Also - the sushi was fresh and served to perfection. Looking forward to a second visit..."
Dined on 6/30/2013
What can I say: this place was
awesome from the fresh dishes and good Saki to the server who was knowlegble and graceful. Kamehachi is definitly in my top two Sushi places in Chicago. The oyster and/or sea urchent shots were great starters,"
Dined on 6/30/2013
I love Kamehachi, great sushi spot
in Old Town. The Veggie Crunch is delicious."
Dined on 6/23/2013
Wonderful food and service, as
always! Creative, great quality food. Will continue to go back!"
Dined on 6/16/2013
Great food and service and a very
nice space, interesting drinks...but a little pricey."

I have been going to kamahatchi
for years at their former location. The food is always excellent and consistent. Upstairs was my favorite. It had a great vibe. The new location is great, the food is still Great and the new upstairs space is just as cool as the old one. Bravo kamahatchi"
Dined on 5/10/2013
Hey I'm a fan too but don't leave
we chasing u into the bar to pay my bill. While the food was good the portions like the roll size were smaller than I'm used to. All that said we will go back again when none of the Chicago sports teams are playing."
Dined on 5/6/2013
This restaurant is located in an
area with many restaurants and entertainment venues (Zanies Comedy Club and Second City) all within one block. The sushi and rolls are above average to very good. Individual sushi pieces are large and cost $3. The rolls could be bigger but they were tasty.. Avoid the spicy tuna roll because it has a tiny speck of tuna and too much rice. I would recommend ordering everything as "easy on the rice" as you will have more fish and more flavor. Do not get the special fish from New Zealand or wherever because it will cost 2 to 3 times as much as the regular salmon or tuna but will taste any better than the regular fish. I recommend customizing orders (more fish less rice). The sushi chefs are very good!"
Dined on 5/4/2013
Foods are quite authentic. They
have some good choices of fishes that are uncommon to be found in other Japanese restaurants. Highly recommend those daily specials. But instead of American style entree (steak, salmon, etc), I wish they could have more wasyoku (Japanese entree)"
Dined on 5/4/2013
Apart from the good food, great
atmosphere and the best sushi in Old Town - special thanks to the awsome manager - Ray (sp?). He alays remembers a name and will not hesitate to gpo out of his way to meet any special requests."
