Diner Reviews
  • "Nice change to the standard fare you find in Tahoe with a Hawaiin menu. Love the pork, fresh"

  • "Lots of great selection for sushi. We ordered 3 rolls and the seaweed salad for 2 of us and it was more than enough food. There were lots of kids in the restaurant. We really liked the family friendly atmosphere but if you are looking for a quiet romantic evening you may want to try someplace else."

  • "There were no "out of the park" moments. The service could have been better, but the food was reasonable and the wine list had a couple of gems at good prices."

  • "The food was okay, although over-priced. Not a great wine list. The waiter did not get a good recommendation for us. All in all, the meal was fine but not outstanding."

  • "Awesome meal with exceptional service. If there was anything negative to say about this place would be that menu options are quite pricey."

  • "We were very happy to find an upscale dinner pace in the Village that was kid friendly. Food and service were wonderful. We will be back!"

  • "We have a wonderful dining experience . I would highly recommend dining here."

  • "Interesting mix of sushi and more traditional menu items. Recommend the mahi mahi and other tropical fish dishes. Perfect location in Heavenly Village."

  • "In Tahoe there are not many options but after eating pizza and burgers we went to this restaurant as one of the few options on Open Table. It was a nice surprise. Nice decoration. Friendly staff and two menus, a traditional and sushi. The sushi is not Japanese, but more of a mix having great ideas and flavors. The traditional menu the Sea Bass and the scallops outstanding. A definite go, and in a budget. A group of 6 adults and 3 kids with wine for dinner was 400 tip included. So after a good day of skiing why not a good dine."

  • "We ve been dining here for years as we make our annual 2 week ski trip. Love the bar for happy hour, dining room for both lunch and dinners. Food is always High quality, creative and serviced with a smile."

  • "They have a good location in the middle of the heavenly village and a huge menu. All items are a little above average in quality but the prices are through the roof. Go next door to base camp, or go any where else in town. Exaggerated, very exaggerated prices. I do not recommend."

  • "Great food and service and a total gem to find this place in the Tahoe area! My teenage kids also loved their sushi and food!"

  • "Having been to Kalani's before I was anticipating a top notch meal for Valentine's dinner. Booked the reservation and everything was a go, thank you OpenTable. Arrived a couple minutes early, not a big deal as the hostess was pleasant and once seated our server was awesome, hence the 4 stars for service. Moving on to the food, this is where it kind of went down hill. We started off with an order of UNI (amazing) and the mussels as an appetizer (also amazing). On to the main coarse in which we were intrigued by one of the specials. To get the best of both worlds we chose the beef cheek special and the sea bass. Beef was not really presented well at all and the sea bass was over cooked / tough. I think next time we will stick to sushi."

  • "We sat at the sushi bar and had great service from both the chief and server. Food was dynmite! It was pricey but very good."

  • "We were in Tahoe for a birthday and decided that this was the proper way to spend Valentine's Day. The drinks were delicious, though slightly pricey. The tuna tartar was by far our favorite, and I could not believe how delicious the sea bass was. My husband enjoyed his Hawaiian roll and scallops. Definitely someplace we would go to again if we're town for a special occasion."

  • "I have to say - we had a great dinner and enjoyed ourselves, but it is very overpriced! The food was yummy and the service was excellent.... Not sure if we would go back, purely because of the cost...."

  • "Very tasty restaurant! It's a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. There is notable wine list as well. All of the food was delicious with no complaints. The service was also great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place to eat in the Tahoe area."

  • "It's seems funny to find a Hawaiian restaurant up in the mountains but this is a great find in Heavenly Village. The food was terrific and the staff very attentive. We ordered the delicious lobster bisque, the crab-crusted Mahi and the pork tenderloin. All the food was great! Definitely book your table ahead of time. We tried for a table on Friday night to find a 2 hour wait. We booked on Open Table for Saturday night and were seated immediately."

  • "The restaurant is average with nothing really special in the menu. Food was ok but the place is noisy. Many kids around."

  • "Advance reservations are a must! We were notified that our table was ready early so we got seated 15 minutes early; not rushed at all despite the crowd. All entrees were spectacular! Would definitely recommend to friends."

  • "Yet again, my husband, two children and myself have enjoyed a wonderful meal at Kalani's. The baby back ribs get big thumbs up from my 14 year old son, the coconut prawns are a number one appetiser in my opinion and oh my goodness, prepare yourself for an amazing tastebud journey with the entrees. Can recommend the lamb shank, or the pork chop & belly. The service is exceptional and hosts are a true asset to the company as they are so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our meals so much that we squeezed another visit in on our last night of our holiday. I would totally recommend your restaurant to anyone wishing to have a great dining experience with superb flavours and ambience."

  • "Tuna pokie was great, sake was great. The rest was horrible. Our waiter was rude and unavailable. The Ono was mediocre as was the signature dish Sea Bass. The Ono was submerged in liquid. The Sea Bass had little to no flavor. This was our Christmas eve dinner, and the waiter made us feel unwelcome even before we ordered dinner. We will not be back"

  • "Several of us stopped in for dinner during our short visit to South Lake Tahoe. While we were told it was a Hawaiian restaurant that isn't entirely true. There are some Hawaiian themed dishes to be sure and it's not a negative in any way as the tood is quite tasty. I had some perfectly cooked scallops for dinner with coconut shrimp appetizers. My wife had an Ono dish that was tasty with another enjoying HuliHuli duck. The lumpia with the duck dish were a little dry, but overall the restaurant was quite good and some great service. This is definitely a place we'd return to."

  • "Been to Kalani's at least once per year and love it every time! Seafood and sushi are the best options, great cocktails too."

  • "Popped in on a whim and sat at the bar for some cocktails and snacks. Both the dinner menu and bar menu is available at the bar. While the dinner menu is a bit pricey, the food is quite good. The bartender was great; she made me an excellent dry martini. Most of their craft cocktails have a Hawaiian twist. We also watched her whip up some off the cuff sake margaritas for another group, taking a little taste (with a straw) as any good mixologist should. The food we ordered was delicious, which was also available during their happy hour for a few dollars off. They also have sushi, which we did not try. Great place for a nice dinner, or for lighter fare at the bar. We will most certainly be back!"

  • "Nuff Said...(it's a side for the pork chop with pistachio crust, also pretty damn good!)"

  • "Restaurant esthetics were lovely, the blueberry martini was a nice start, then the dining nightmare began. Our waiter was extremely rude, & never smiled, leaving us feeling uncomfortable. My wilted salad was doused with a sugary sweet dressing. The recommended sea bass was covered with sweet sauce and was previously frozen and rubbery. Everything was sweet, a diabetic nightmare, giving new meaning to the word "sweet tooth". The menu was "Hawaiiana" in words only. Simplify the ingredients, do not sweeten everything. The Chef needs to dine in Hawaii at Roy Yamaguchi, Alan Wong or Sam Choys restaurants to learn from the Masters what a Taste of Aloha is truly all about. And please, please fire the waiters that do not have the "Aloha Spirit"..."

  • "Loved the Ahi Poke and the large mixed seafood platter appetizer. Great service, friendly without hovering. Didn't care for the brownie with the jalapenos, way to spicy hot. Good wine selection and nice interior; quite deceptive when looking from the outside and coming from the pizza/bar place next door. Great location for all the timeshare people in the vicinity."
