If Kai was in Scottsdale you would wait months for a table but since it is off the beaten path it is not an impossible task to get a table so take advantage of a dining experience unlike any other in this city. And surprisingly it wasn't that expensive. We have dined at other highly rated restaurants in other cities and to be honest the food here was better and we spent less. The facility is beautiful and peaceful, the staff courteous, efficient and helpful. As for the food, it was impeccable. The creativity of the chef shines in each dish and the taste must be experienced to be believed. The cost is in line with what you would expect to pay for a 5-star dining experience, which Kai most certainly is. What stand out most, even more than the food, is the service. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful without being pushy. The appetizers were great to look at even better to eat. We both tried the buffalo entre....like eating a filet mignon. From the fabulous menu to the spot on service all went well and it was a wonderful experience.
The only downside is that we were seated in the wine room. While no doubt a great place with a larger group, my husband and I felt completely shut off from the entire dining experience. Additionally, when we needed an fork we had to wait until someone came in to the wine room to ask, versus being in the dining room and signaling a waiter for assistance. Also, all of the wines served in the restaurant came from the wine room, thus there was a lot of in and out to get the wine which was intrusive.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCreating Memories as well as Meals!From the time we were greeted with small flutes of chilled fruit juices, we knew we were in for an experience of a life-time! We began with delicious and imaginative cocktails (my favorite was "Skocu Thu") followed by a small complimentary Dungeness crab starter. The Souse Vide Roots salad was one of the tastiest and most beautifully presented dishes I've ever had, proceeded by the grilled buffalo tenderloin entree - tender and cooked to perfection. Although the quality of the food and it's preparation are the raison d'être at Kai, the service and attention to detail cannot be surpassed. The drapes were pulled precisely at sunset, giving us a spectacular view of the mountains. Breathtaking! We loved how well the culture was interwoven throughout the whole evening. Our servers' were extremely helpful with sharing the background and history of the restaurant and the surrounding area. We started with cocktails, the Kai Mojito is outstanding! You have to try the breads, all of them are so good. The appetizers were delicious, they were the highlight of the meal. I got the duck and foie gras, the portion was perfect, the presentation as well. I got the spanish Turbot as a main course, I was a bit disappointed. The fish itself was of great quality, but, it did not go well with the tomato sauce that came with it. The other member of my party was also not impressed with the entree.
