There aren't many new restaurants in Maui, so we were excited to try Kahana Grill. Staff was very friendly but they forgot 2 things we ordered and had to be reminded. The wine list was very good and not over priced. The shrimp wontons were not wontons at all but batter coated shrimp that could have been cooked more. They should rename them and the waiter should have explained this, I would not have ordered fried shrimp. The sushi was excellent and the ribs were awesome, falling off the bone with a nice, spicey, not-too-sweet BBQ sauce. Their iced coffee was meh. Overall- I'd give them a B+ by Maui standards (a C if it were a major city). We'll probably give them another chance, perhaps for lunch, but they need to work on a few things.

Been open less than a year. Trying to be gourmet, but our food was more Midwest homecooking. Chicken with jus was tasty and tender, served over Pecorino potatoes but no evidence of Pecorino. Braised short-ribs, my order in any restaurant that has them, were disappointing. Two huge chunks of meat, but not "falling apart tender" as described by server; sauce/gravy had more tomato flavor than red-wine or beef flavor. Meat not flavorful. Interior is dreary. Tables all in a row makes it seem like a cheaper place. My red wine served VERY cold, not just a little chilled. Bartender was defensive about it although did say he would serve whatever temp I liked.

Had an amazing end to the day with dinner at the Kahana Grill; this was in a spot originally and for years held by Roy's.First of all, our waiter Robert was so attentive and friendly, making sure we felt like the only people in the restaurant. Had their Shrimp Won-Ton which was a great beginning, then had the Monchong as their special dinner, along with a Green Curry Seafood - wow!!! and our granddaughter who was pampered - had a ahi tuna specially made just for her. This will not be the last time here. The number of people dining was rather small, but everyone seemed to love the food and attention.

My wife and I dined here on a Friday night and had such a good experience, we went back on Sunday. The food was excellent as was the service. It was a pleasant surprise. It has a variety of options from salads and pizza to wonderful fresh seafood as good as any fine dining restaurant.

We were looking for a restaurant in Maui that had good food but wasn't exorbitantly expensive. With two teens and a tween eating is very pricey on Maui. There were expensive items on the menu to be sure. But there were also a variety of more reasonably priced items. The surprise was that everything was made in house from the pizza crust to tthe BBQ sauce to the mozarella cheese on the kahlua pork pizza. It was delicious. Our family also had green curry noodles with chicken, vegetable risotto, and baby back ribs. Everything we ordered was delicious. What wasn't house made was locally sourced. My family would definitely go back.

The food was good - we had the Thai curry, cheese pizza, and mong chong fish special. My son had the grilled keiki fish. Problem was the service. We sat for nearly 10 minutes before we were forced to flag down a waiter--apparently a waiter hasn't been assigned our table. Our waitperson apologized profusely, took our drink order, and then disappeared for another 10 minutes before finally returning with our drinks. We asked for a couple more minutes to place our order. 10 minutes later, he returned (again apologizing profusely for the delay). The restaurant was only 1/4 full, so it's not like they were understaffed. Too bad- food was good but we will never return due to the poor service.

Kahana Grill has a great deal of charm, outstanding food, and a menu designed to please: it features small plates, full-size plates, salads, sushi and even pizza! We really appreciated the variety of quality food. Our group of 3 shared veggie tempura and Caesar salad to start, then two had various sushi and specialty rolls while I had the night's special small plate, lamb shank Bolognese -- and it wasn't too small a plate, either! None of us had room for dessert. The previous week we had had ahi tartare and crispy duck and those were also very good. A good variety of drinks as well, including a fresh and tasty mai tai with house-made orgeat and spiced rum. Attractive modern open decor and hands-on owners giving good service.

Service was very, very slow - 20 mintues after being seated drink order still had not been delivered. Ribs were good but came with mushy, luke warm fries. After complaining about the fries was told that they could be replaced but would come back the same as that is how they are prepared.

This was our first time at Kahana Grill and we think it definitely has potential. The restaurant is large and completely open which makes it rather a noisy place. It is good for kids with all the room and the background noise, but it is a little hard to communicate with your dining companions. The food was very good, we had the Mala pizza, Caesar salads, and polenta on the side. The price was very reasonable and service was good. We will definitely come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed this place, the ambiance was wonderful and the food was amazing and you could tell that every dish/recipe was unique and full of flavor. We actually ate there the week before our valentines dinner after landing in Maui since it was close to our condo. The fish was done to perfection. Love this place! And the added bonus was a young guy on an acoustic guitar playing some really good music.

Get em in, get em out type of place. Poor service, average food. Our food came quickly, but then we were ignored as they shuffled more people in and out. No one asked how our meal was, busboys cleared plates while i was still eating, our second glass of wine came after we finished eating, someone we never saw before brought the bill. Don't bother with this place.

Food is very good, open friendly atmosphere. Plenty of parking so easy to get to. We had to ask for olives for our martini and there were no desert wines available. Staff is still getting used to the computer system it seems. The bar is open to the restaurant which can be a bit of a distraction when there are games on the television but overall the experience was positive.

This restaurant opened just a couple of months ago and we have already been there 7-8 times. The menu is so varied that there is something for everyone and at a wide range of prices. Everything we have tried has been delicious and our waiters Ian and Todd (at the bar) have given us excellent service. Also, it has been nice that the owner walks around to the tables and greets the diners.

We have been to Kahana Grill twice. Our first experience was very good, although the Kahlua Pork that I had was a bit salty, but, overall we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. And, we thought our waiter was great! We enjoyed the experience so much that we went back a few days later. This time, my wife ordered filet mignon and lobster. It came cold. We sent it back, and while the potates came back hot, the rest didn't, and it seemed that the returned steak was half the size. My chicken was hot but dry. The same waiter we had the first time was not "great", either. They did take the steak & lobster off the bill. Unfortunately, while there are some good things about the restaurant, we will not return.

Worst dining experience. Place was half empty on New Year's Eve and now I know why. Service was terrible. Took 20 minutes to get a glass of water When our first bite of food finally came over an hour after we arrived, it was our entrees. We had ordered a first course. So they dumped all the food at the table at the same time. We mentioned we never got bread. At the end of the meal we were brought bread. No apologies or attempts to make it up to us. Had they tried to make it up- comp something or provide a voucher so we would try it again maybe I wouldn't feel compelled to write this horrible review. Instead we got to pay full freight. Maybe they thought we were one time tourists. We are not.

My husband & I had the 3 course PF menu on Christmas. Food was outstanding: grilled caesar salad, lobster risotto jam packed with lobster (a little under seasoned, had to ask for salt), and upside down apple pie that was the best dessert I've had in a long time. Waitstaff is untrained & inexperienced. A few training needs: opening a wine bottle (need to cut the foil off before extracting the cork, don't put the unopened bottle on the table & rotate the bottle unto the corkscrew, don't fill the glass as if it were a water glass), replace cutlery as necessary after courses without the customer having to ask, check back with the customer after they've had a chance to take a few bites. Atmosphere is fine not great. Not a place for romance

This was our first visit, but the person who was with us had been before and liked it. The restaurant looked pretty much like it did when Roy's Kahana Grill occupied the place. The food and service was good, but our steaks were not cooked to the temperature we ordered. The restaurant also ran out of the bread they normally serve, and substituted something other kind. My friend's sushi came warm instead of cold, so she advised our waiter who checked the temperature of the chiller. This is a good restaurant, but since they are new, I think they are still trying to work out the kinks. We will go back and try again, because our food tasted good and the ambiance is nice, too.
