A word from Ka'ana Kitchen at Andaz Maui
What we serve at Ka‘ana, we serve from the heart. We source from local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen. We only put on your plate what we feel is proper to serve. Our pairings speak to the ability to connect the elements of taste, smell, and touch with everything around us.
Our dishes are prepared using techniques from around the culinary world, but thought-out in accordance with our micro-climate. The way we prepare our fish, season our salads, and grill our meat depends not only on its origin, but what the weather tells us, how the swells on the ocean shape our mood, and how the land influences our feelings.
Here we hope to blur the lines between your kitchen and our restaurant, between what is external and what is internal. We invite you in, share our hopes, and create a unique dining experience that connects you to this place and its essence.

Drinks overpriced, cheapest white wine at $16 per glass. But combining appetizer dishes (as recommended) can be gourmet treat at perhaps reasonable pricing. So message is good for different delectable tastes but avoid pricy entrees and drinks.

The food was great. But our meal lasted 2.25 hours - we had to wait awhile for both our entree and dessert. We also had to flag our waiter to be serviced.

We arrived a few minutes early for our 5:30 reservation and were asked to wait outside while the restaurant staff finished their team huddle. When we asked to look at the menu while we waited, we were made to feel like that was an inconvenience they begrudgingly permitted. The delicate Kona lobster in the ceviche appetizer was completely overwhelmed by cilantro and other spices, and was way overpriced, as was the watermelon salad. Just because you can prepare something sous vide doesn't mean you should. Their center rib-eye cut had the metallic taste of the blood in which it was marinated, which was a waste for $56. Our waiter told us he was one of the "somm"s. Is the word 'sommelier' so long that one needs to abbreviate? Some of the haughtiness one comes to expect from new, so-called 'farm-to-table' restaurants would have been tolerable had the food come close to meeting our expectations. Sadly, that was not the case.

As a chef/owner I pay attention to details. Service was great, but the execution of the menu fell short. As I know from experience we can only improve from constructive cridisisum. First course I ordered was the lobster ceviche, good flavors but was missing a main component- avocado. As I mentinoned this to the server they brought me a small side of 4 baby size peices after my dish was almost finished. The pork belly I ordered was more like a pork stir fry. Nothing special about this dish. The pork was underseasoned and could have been much more crispier. This place has great potintial and I am sure this will help to improve their operation.

So glad we chose ka'ana kitchen again for restaurant week. The Andaz is beautiful. I recommend heading there early and having drinks at their pool bar before your reservation. We like the indoor seating because you can watch chef Isaac at work in the kitchen. His food is simply delicious. Our server, Jeff, was awesome too. Very attentive and helpful. We will definitely be back.

  • Excellent dinner at Ka"anna Kitchen
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 11/12/2014
Ka’anna means to share and we shared the appetizers, main dishes and dessert, which were all delicious with many interesting flavors. We started with the watermelon salad with arugula and feta and the grilled octopus with secret sicily (cheese), asparagus and watercress. The monchong main dish was served over a quinoa granola with yellow squash and chard highlighted by sweet vanilla raisins. The perfectly cooked pork special came with greens and a foie gras sauce. We shared the sundae of coconut ice cream, chocolate cake, macadamia nuts and chocolate sauce. We arrived at 5:30 and watched the sunset from the terrace. The service was leisurely paced over more than two hours. Every table was taken. Music from the singer at the pool bar and the sounds from the presentation kitchen created enough noise that I found myself leaning forward and speaking with a raised voice for conversation. This was a first-rate dinner with 3 drinks and tip well worth the $209.

We went for Sunday brunch. Modern pretty dining area with a great view of the ocean, and kind accommodating staff (we were late, had a 5 mo old baby, and they were still helpful and cheerful). Excellent buffet choices for whatever you're in the mood for incl fresh fruit and fresh squeezed juices, local favorites like malasadas, fried rice, pork dumplings, coconut granola as well as usual fare- eggs, bacon, French Toast, omelet station etc. So delicious! AND bottomless mimosas- how can you beat that?!

I can see that we may have just had an off night. The quality of the ingredients combined with the creativity of the presentations should have made for a five star experience. It didn't. The menu while creatively and uniquely presented, was challenging to make course selections. The food was complex with interesting and bold flavors and somehow just missed the mark. I loved what they are doing and I really wanted it to be good, but alas, I would not go back.

I am absolutely obsessed with this new restaurant at the Andaz wailea. chef Isaac has put together an amazing creative innovative and delicious menu that is to die for!! I live in Lahaina but I would drive all the way to wailea any chance I get especially when friends and family come to visit just to eat at Ka'ana. I would highly recommend this place for foodies looking for farm to table w/ local ingredients made with delicious flavors and flair carefully plated and delicious down to the very last bite! The pork belly the lobster the Ahi and Barada just some of my faves. Thank you Chef Isaac and the rest of the staff, our waiter Jeff for always treating us like family and feeding us memorable dishes that we look forward to every time!

All the dishes we tried were amazing. The chef, waiter (Stephen was awesome!), hostess and everyone else made our night so special except for the sommelier... He had a snobby attitude and I am not sure why he is a part of such a great team. If he wasn't there to ruin some moments, I would have given 5 stars. We would definitely go back when he is off.

We stayed at the Andaz and had a dinner, as well as our breakfasts here at Ka'ana Kitchen. The food is amazing and the service is great. Dining on the terrace offers a great view of the ocean, but thanks to the beautiful interior design of the restaurant, including the open kitchen, even a meal indoors makes for a great dining experience. We highly recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Maui.

As a person with Gluten allergies I was surprised to go to a restaurant with such a strong reputation and find that there was so little choice for celiacs. What especially concerned me is that many of the foods that are normally gluten free such as rice had glutinous grains added. After working through the menu and asking for several specially created sides I ended with chicken rice and onions. Sorry to say this but the Outback does a better job for celiacs.

Went there for dinner last night. By far one of the best "farm fresh" meals I have ever enjoyed! The open kitchen without walls in the middle of the restaurant lends itself quite well to the overall experience. Service was superb and the food five stars. The people are friendly in a different, casual way. When you are directed through the entry, waiting to be seated, you're face-to-face with a bartender. He talks with you casually, as if you're the only guests. Then can make you an excellent cocktail as you watch. The style and personality of the place is just a very pleasant experience. From the greeting of the Valet service to the sunset upon our entrance into the Andaz at Wailea Lobby to our walk down the grand staircase and greeting with the restaurant's host to our seating and service provided by Kim -- the Aloha Spirit was alive and well that evening. Our server's knowledge of the farmers, menu and pairing of wines to our preference was on point. We had five dishes: pork belly, grilled octopus, lobster, eye of rib eye, and red snapper that were all excellent in flavor! We ended our evening with two desserts: coconut ice cream sundae and goat cream cheese cake which sealed our five-star rating!

We usually go to the four seasons for breakfast, but decided to branch out...won't make that mistake again! The buffet is ridiculously overpriced at $45 for less choice and definitely lesser quality food. Everything is awkward about it. The food had clearly sat out for hours and was unimpressive. The only thing I agree with other reviewers about was the fresh juice guy. The service was just "ok". After asking to change tables (and not being allowed to do so) our server was clearly annoyed and ignored us most of the remainder of the meal.
