K & L BistroLove K&LIts been too long since I've been to K&L... probably 10 years. We went for a business lunch, and found the 2 salads ordered by our group of 4 (two had Ahi and two had Cobb) were well presented and tasted equally good. Fresh ingrediants and wonderful service rounded out our experience. The only challenge was the noise level . Decided to try K&L and we're glad we did! Very comfortable place. Food was very good; we had salmon and branzino (see bass) and they were cooked perfectly. The oysters to start were excellent! We also had beet salad and carrot soup special; both were very good! Our server was very friendly and attentive, as were all the wait staff. The owners/chefs keep the bar running as well as the kitchen. Food is served hot from their fire oven; fun to watch them cook! We had the radish salad, branzio, grilled asparagus, fries, and strawberry shortcake. The food was simply, but perfectly prepared and of excellent quality. The service was very good and unobtrusive. I was especially great to watch the cooks - they were calm and focused throughout the evening. The restaurant is very pleasant and not loud, which we really liked. There are some new things on the menu, including the return of the beloved persimmon and walnut salad. The wine list also has been refreshed with some interesting bottles. Prices remain a bit high. For example, the K&L crab cakes are now listing at $28, whereas elsewhere they're about $15. We started with a beet salad that was delicious; fresh and crunchy...the kind of salad one seems unable to reproduce at home. For our entrees my companion went for the Scotch Salmon, which she loved. I enjoyed the special for the evening, a lamb ragout over pasta.

The charcuterie plate was exceptional, as was the Caesar salad. We had a very good glass of an Italian sauvignon blanc, a first-time experience in that type of wine. Staff was attentive and very pleasant. Having the kitchen right there works as it adds "flavor", remarkably, without lots of noise. The staff is great, the ambience is chic, yet warm, the food variable. My petrale was not hot enough when brought to me, and pretty bland. But my husband's lamb ragout pasta was delicious. When we sat down, looked at the menu, and saw that the appetizer for the dinner was octopus, my wife and I weren't too sure about it, but decided to take a chance. We're glad we did, because it was amazingly good. The main dish was pork belly, which was a little bit fatty, but oh so delicious.
