Diner Reviews
  • "18 Oaks is way over priced for what you get. Way too expensive for a sports bar atmosphere. If I wanted to go to a sports bar you should lower prices and raise you food quality."

  • "Went here for an anniversary dinner and it was one to remember. The steak was perfection, the service was fantastic and we could actually have a conversation without having to raise our voices. Lighting was subdued without being too dark and the light fixtures are definitely worth a look."

  • "I literally do not think, I really ever tasted a good steak before I came here...absolutely phenomenal."

  • "i'm not sure if it was an off night, but our food was just okay. My husband and I both got a steak, and although it was cooked correctly, I think they got the timing off, and it was luke-warm when it arrived at the table. It was alright, just not outstanding. And for a $220 dinner - I would expect it to be outstanding. Our server, Casey, was great though. Very polite, knowledgeable, and had a relaxed air about him. If we were staying at the JW again, I would go back and try something other than a steak."

  • "Wonderful staff, location and service. Stephanie helped with my reservation details as I was surprising my partner for his birthday. Chris provided excellent service and quality attention. A birthday dessert was the ending plate and delicious! Thank you we will be back. Kimberly Macy's Inc"

  • "The service was excellent along with our server being very professional. The steak dinner was one of my best meals ever!! The décor is very beautiful at night along with a great wine selection."

  • "Great service and good food. I had the pork chops which were enough for two. I received two large well seasoned center cut pieces. My spouse had the venison which was also prepared to perfection and cooked med rare as he requested. Our children (15 & 6) enjoyed the dining experience, also. We would def. go back if I was looking to do upscale dining."

  • "Ambiance and service were great. But for the price i expected the food to be better. Its not up there with a Ruths Chris or Perrys even though the cost is similar. My biggest issues: 1) ordered steak medium and it was medium-rare. For a fine dining place like this you expect streak to be cooked perfectly to your liking. 2) shrimp bisque was watery and taste was a average at best 3) paid $9 for side of asparagus and got 6 spears. Went to Ruths Chris a couple weeks ago and got more than twice the amount for about the same price. 4) wife had the striped bass and for $34 you expect it to be excellent. We've had better fish for much less"

  • "Great restaurant if you are looking for something quiet, romantic & scenic. My wife and I was able to sit, eat & talk w/out distraction. Staff was great, very attentive & affable. The food was excellent. Appetizers, oysters & crab cakes; both were great. Entrée, Ribeye (both), cooked perfectly. Sides, grilled asparagus/risotto (both delicious). Desert, chocolate cake w/a scoop of ice cream & the crème brulée…both great. Overall, awesome…worth the price. However, the real charm of this restaurant is the ambiance. Tucked within a resort hotel, it has great views of the Texas hill country and the PGA Tour golf course. In addition, it was quiet, romantic, perfectly lit and secluded. Great for a delicious private meal with the one you love:-)"

  • "A great place for a steak. From the bread from the in-house bakery to the chocolate dessert, everything was fantastic. The décor was very warm and the staff was very friendly and attentive. A Great dining experience."

  • "We were on holiday and decided to dine here. Food and service impeccable!"

  • "Went there because they had live music and I heard the brunch was excellent. Brunch was so-so but very expensive. There wasn't sufficient variety and much of the food was pretentious. They tried too hard and then charged well over $50/pp for a less than stellar brunch. Waiter kept asking us if it was a special occasion. Afterwards I realized he must have asked that because he thought we were crazy for paying for such an expensive but mediocre meal."

  • "This was a New Year's Eve reservation that I held for 2 months. We had eaten here several times in the past and I was looking forward to having the Colorado lamb chops again. I had confirmed the reservation several times, including earlier in New Years Eve. I was never told that the restaurant was doing a special menu which unfortunately did not include the lamb. The usual menu was posted in the foyer outside the restaurant earlier that day. While the dinner was very nice, it was not what I expected. Better communications were needed. We likely would still have come. My entrée was a 16 oz prime ribeye. Very tasty but way too big. I barely ate half of it. The other gentleman in our party had the same experience."

  • "I was expecting a nice brunch with my family however I received so much more. The dining experience was the best I have ever had! All of my family ranted and raved about how excellent the food quality, ambience and the variety of food prepared. This will be a regular experience for us! I was expecting a good experience but they far exceeded my expectations!!"

  • "Our reservation was handled flawlessly and we were seated upon arrival at a nice table for two by the windows with a view of the fireplace. Steve, our waiter, also a chef, not only knows the menu upside down and backwards, but can describe how each dish is prepared in great detail! He assisted with pairing the wine w/ our dishes which is always helpful. I had the short-ribs. They were cooked slowly for 9 hours and a knife was unnecessary! There was slight caramelization on a small part which caused slight chewiness. The mac & cheese was just good, not great. The soup and bread were homemade and delicious. The ambiance is traditional Texas style with very high ceilings and metal and rock trim. Nice interior and not too rustic."

  • "We dined mid day. We're told they ran out of chocolate covered strawberries. Very disappointed. Only two salad dressings offered. Live music extremely loud. Prime rib was good, most vegetables seemed cold. It seemed over priced. Had to walk through servers hall to reach our table, due to crowding of tables."

  • "For the past four years my wife and I have dined at 18 Oaks every Christnmas Eve and Christmas evening. The food is always outstanding but we did notice a steep decline in the service both nights. Pretty dissapointing but it will not keep us from going back. Hope to see some progress next holiday season."

  • "This was a lovely restaurant however our server was not very attentive or knowledgable. My steak was over cooked & the wine was so-so."

  • "Five girls going out to eat for a Holiday dinner. Location was difficult to get to, but worth the traffic hassles. We all had some version of steak and all plates were absolutely delicious! Our waiter was excellent and the only reason I didn't give service 5 stars was that the wait staff delivering our plates had switched everyone's plates. Would choose this restaurant again for quiet atmosphere and great steaks."

  • "We arrived after running the Illuminations half marathon there at the Marriott. Our reservation was at 9:15pm for 4. We ordered quickly and had a few appetizers which were timely. However, we guess that the chef must have been given a long break after we ordered our steaks because there were only about 5 other tables at that time and our steaks/dinners took Forever!!! We all were looking around and couldnt see our waitress to ask her as well so that was frustrating. It was around 40 minutes for us to receive our 4 meals. Overall--good ambience and food--but very frustatingly, extremely slow service. For those reasons and the price, not sure if we will be back. Much better servuce at other similar steakhouses in town."

  • "Relaxed atmosphere with fabulous Texas ingredients. The double pork chop and crab cakes were favorites. The duck fat French fries are a must try. My husband I dined there 2 nights in a row."

  • "I took my wife to 18 Oaks for our 5th Anniversary. I had the ribeye and she had the lamb chops and we shared the duck fat fries and macaroni and cheese. Both the food and service were excellent. The only drawback was the noise level. That is the only reason I gave ambience only 4 stars. However, that was hardly the restaurant's fault. Unfortunately, some people think they are much more funny and interesting than they really are. Once that table of idiots left, the noise level and atmosphere was really nice."

  • "My husband and I decided to try your restaurant for our 43rd anniversary. We knew we wanted steak and we weren't disappointed. The baked potato and wedge salad was very good, as well. We enjoyed ourselves very much."

  • "It was a first for us. I wanted to take my husband somewhere nice for breakfast/brunch and had eaten at another restaurant at the Marriott so I made a reservation. The food was great and the service was even better. A must do. We will be back."

  • "Service was very slow. It took over 3 hours from the time we sat down until the time we finished dessert. I would go back, however, just to enjoy the French fries fried in duck fat."

  • "I was not disappointed and was happily surprised with the entire experience. The place is beautiful, relaxing, had lots of room for our party of 5, the noise level was low which was a huge plus, and the service was great! We plan to return in the future!"

  • "The food was simply awesome! Our wait staff gave great suggestions!"

  • "Nice ambience, beet salad and sides were well prepared and enjoyable. Entrees were way over-salted, scallops were not seasoned well, not enjoyable. Filet ordered medium was well done. Sent it back, took 20 minutes to re-fire. Hit the table medium the second time, they didn't kill it with salt the second time, but it was served on a sizzling griddle pan. That made no sense whatsoever. Unless you eat the whole steak within 3 minutes it over cooks as it is on a hot cast iron plate. Took a few bites but by then it was over cooked and dry. I gave feedback to them suggesting that they re-think how they serve steaks. On that note, they served homemade jerky with the bread which was good, should have just stook with that."

  • "Excellent service, from our waiter, Mark, good wine suggestions also. View of the golf course was beautiful. Dining room was spacious and not crowded or noisy. Our food was excellent, steaks were cooked exactly to our liking, side dish of truffle corn left me wanting more. Crab cake appetizers were delicious. Restaurant manager, Chris, stopped by our table to see how everything was. Seemed very proud of all of his staff and their dedication to quality service and food. Will definitely return."

  • "Every time I come to San Antonio, I make a reservation here. The steaks are to die for, the farm to table fresh vegetables are delicious, and the service staff are very knowledgable and attentive. The chef is very innovative, with the fresh products grow on property. Reservations are recommended."
