Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is absolutely beautiful! The indoor and outdoor seating are perfect for any meal!"

  • "The chef certainly has some different ideas. Thus is one of the best menus also has vegan, raw, diabetic choices. I had the lamb, my husband the rockfish. Both fantastic. The soup was outstanding and dessert yummy. Good wine list. Love the fact that the chef came to each table. Nice view to the courtyard but too cool to eat out there. Worth trying this very comfortable restaurant in the Fairmont .the bread is to die for!"

  • "I hesitate to report on how nice this restaurant was, since it's most remarkable quality was how quiet it was, and I'd hate to see noisy crowds in it. It was a pleasure to be able to speak at a normal level. The food was fine, the service was fine. But, say, why does my nickname have to include a number? It's not a password. That doesn't make any sense at all."

  • "While the food is good, the view from the sun room was amazing. The other notable thing was the bread. You MUST order the bread! I would go back for a quiet early dinner with my honey."

  • "Awesome! Wonderful food and wonderful service. A great evening."

  • "This is a hotel restaurant (which we didn't realize when I made the reservation). The only way that was obvious was the decor - the finishes just weren't very high end. It was kind of what you would expect a hotel restaurant to look like. That being said, the food and service were both top notch. The cocktails were very well crafted, the wine list is small but had some good choices (most skewed high on the price range). Presentation on the plate was beautiful, and the flavors were excellent. Would definitely recommend to a friend"

  • "Reliable, dignified, fine for a business lunch. It won't thrill you but it will not disappoint. Fat crab cakes!"

  • "Good place to get locally sourced food for a business brunch. Quiet seating meant you were comfortable talking and didn't have to shout. Service was what you'd expect in any hotel buffet lobby restaurant but the food was not. Far more refined. The egg-white omelet with goat cheese, roasted peppers and quinoa was a healthy indulgence. Only wish I had tried some of the loose leaf teas."

  • "For the price you get Great food, Great service, Great ambiance. A truly savory and enjoyable meal."

  • "We went for brunch and were SO impressed (and full)! Come hungry- ($50) brunch buffet with dessert table PLUS you pick and entree off the menu. Bottomless mimosas, or just champagne if you prefer. Extensive health-smart menu and many gluten free options. Farm to table all the way. We will be back again and again since we now struggle to find somewhere as good for brunch! Service was outstanding and professional."

  • "Overpriced for what you get. And not at all noteworthy."

  • "This is not your usual hotel fare. The food is exceptional. Very fresh and local sources used. Many different food needs are accommodated(even Paleo!) but the regular food is well prepared and we ordered salads from the unique side of the menu that caters to gluten free, heart healthy, vegan etc. We heaved been there twice and both times were excellent."

  • "Great open buffet, plus opportunity to order an entree. The hazelnut muffins... I die! Also, bottomless mimosas with orange juice or mango - delish!"

  • "The food was wonderful; the view of the street was disappointing. The food was wonderful; the price of parking was shocking. The food was wonderful; the place was empty. The food was wonderful and everyone was very polite. If you need a quiet place where you and your spouse can catch up, you love food, and your budget is $150 for 2 (including parking) then this is your place. An A-list celebrity would be very happy here. No one would bother you. We did have to wait a while for menus and then again for the check, but with the buffet we didn't have to wait for food which is the most important aspect of brunch. 4 stars because the food was so good."

  • "Awful experience! Food quality was very poor! Many items bordered on spoiled! We ordered breakfast from menu – because a review of the buffet showed that all food was old, dry and stale – very distinctly NOT FRESH! One member of my party ordered scrambled eggs with a side of Virginia ham and it smelled as if it were going bad. Service was slow and non-responsive. Although it was practically empty, the service was poor, and the server made a significant error on my bill. Will not go back here again!"

  • "Local vegetables were all excellent and the bread loaf was terrific. Both steaks were requested medium/medium rare and one was done just right and the other was well done for some reason so it needed to be replaced. Once that was done, and fortunately it only took it few minutes since I was waiting before eatting, all was back on track. Recommend it for special occassions. We ate a little early because of a 9 pm show afterwards at the Kennedy Center."

  • "We use to come at Juniper, especially during spring and summer enjoying the outdoor dining area. Last visit, Valentines night, was a disappointment. Honey bread, signature appetizer, never came. Food was not the usual standard, crab cakes heavily salted. Dessert, creme bruleé, dressed with slices of grape fruit, was a complete mistake on this sweet dessert. We live in the neighborhood and hope the night was a one of in our fairly long row of good experinces."

  • "This is my new preference for a business lunch. The service is excellent. The food id good, fresh with multiple choices for those with special requirements (vegan, diabetes, etc). I find the atmosphere light and uplifting. You are able to hold a business discussion without interruption. I give the restaurant high marks."

  • "I only even found Juniper because of Open Table, and I'm glad I did. Traveling to DC a lot for work, I'm always looking for a new great option to try, and this was it. Not only was the food terrific, but the restaurant struck an unusual balance between formal and relaxed. Terrific, if a little short, wine list, walnut honey bread and lots of focus on local ingredients. Being able to craft your own "DIY" entree, and choose small plates and sides, makes the menu surprisingly versatile, too. My party of three liked it so much that we've decided to bring our larger group back in a few weeks!"

  • "Creative local-sourced gourmet food. Service was amazing and attentive without being intrusive. Quiet atmosphere. Brilliant food. We had a four-month old baby, and every person was really sweet and helpful and understanding, from the maitre'd to the servers to the valet at the end. My parents were with us, and they were blown away. They want to go back every visit! And the wine list was also amazing. The best all-around dining experience we've had in DC, and we live here and go to some fantastic places (Nora, Lincoln, Rasika, etc.)."

  • "Juniper, located in the Fairmont Hotel, is a surprising gem for a hotel restraunt. It is on the pricey side. $$$ at least. $99 for bread, a steak, one side, and 2 glasses of wine for one. There are less expensive entrees as well. I ate there twice during my stay because it was worth it not to schlep out in the cold this trip. Ribeye, excellent, perfectly to temp with wonderful crusty char and a nice garlic herb butter sauce that wasn't really needed. Maple glazed Brussels sprouts were marvelous and I'll have to try to do that back home. Delicious honey bread. Watch the Amish chicken. Presliced, but a bone in each bite... But the staff worked as a marvelous team. Attentive, sweet, and seemingly happy with their jobs. I enjoyed them."

  • "We went for Sunday brunch and were blown away. Bottomless mimosas and excellent food brightened up the day. The main food offerings would have been more than sufficient, but then found out that we got an entrée as well. We both had the crab cakes (suggested) and they were generous and full of choice crab meat. Wished we had saved even more room for the excellent dessert table."

  • "The food was amazing. Both the fish and the paleo meal were incredible flavorful. Service was excellent. Small clientele which was disappointing for a Friday night. Upscale menu and decor set the formal tone for the night. Highly recommended."

  • "I had the striploin steak, which was cooked medium with a nice crust. I also got the patatas bravas-which were were incredible! Perfectly cooked & spicy with chipotle. but it had a heat & spice that caught up to you. It was surrounded by a sweet & tangy housemade steak sauce. My husband had the maple glazed salmon, which was served with sweet potato fries that were good & he also ordered a side of brussel sprouts-which were also terrific -- glazed in soy & perfectly tender but crunchy. Dessert was an interesting chocolate tart with flaky sea salt on it & a warm apple crisp with caramel ice cream. My only quibble about dessert is that the apple crisp felt more like a bowl of apple pie filling with crunchy topping poured on."

  • "I treated my husband for lunch here for his birthday. This was our first dining experience at Juniper and our expectations were met. Juniper is on the expensive side ($84 for lunch for two before tip) so not sure how Open Table only gives it two dollar signs. The beet soup I ordered was terrific as the chopped apple nicely offset the beets and my husband was equally pleased with his crab soup. Hubby was extremely pleased with his cod entree and the side serving of lentils and whole grains. My crab cake sandwich was very good, but the roll was on a greasy side. We would return."

  • "We've exhausted the selection of restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the Kennedy Center - or so we thought. Juniper is minutes away by car, and there was ample street parking. We got there early - and were the first to arrive, giving us the choice of where to sit. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. He even let us try two different Rieslings, I chose one - my wife the other. Our dinners were well prepared, beautifully presented and flavorful. I especially liked the grilled vegetable with my Amish Chicken. I look forward to the chance to return in the spring and dine in the courtyard."

  • "My husband and I very much enjoyed Christmas brunch at Juniper. The atmosphere was lovely - a bit more refined than is usual thesedays, which was a treat. And the food was divine. My husband raved about the crab cakes. It was a great choice. We will be back."

  • "Wonderful food, great relaxed ambience, and phenomenal service. My fiance took me here for my birthday, and it was a great night. Every employee we encountered was not only incredibly helpful and friendly, but they bent over backwards to make sure we had a special experience. The food was delicious, and they had a surprising variety to fit a number of special diets. They also use their own honey for everything from the bread to their "Beetini" drink (which was DELICIOUS!), which was both novel as well as tasty. Also, the noise level was low, with appropriate music, which made for an intimate dinner that one can't always find in DC. I can' say enough good things about this place."

  • "The choice of Vegan , Heart Healthy, Macrobiotic and just Regular haute'cusine makes this a favorite restaurant to return to. This last visit however was just a tad marred by the Cod being a bit over-cooked...I let the chef know but did not hear a reply back through the waiter. Presentation, ambiance, waitering, support staff was , as usual, spectacular. Next time I will insist on not being seated near the table that holds 8+ people, the noise level , especially after they consume a few bottles of wine, can ruin the experience. Very nice outdoor garden dining, weather permitting."
