AMAZING!!!! In short, NOTHING COULD HAVE BEEN FINER!!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways GreatJumpin Jay's is the best restaurant in Portsmouth. The seafood is always excellent, the service is solid, and it is unpretentious. Really good food at good value.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding foodSeafood was fantastic, so fresh.....bread was delicious as well. Excellent choice and would definitely go back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best seafood restaurantsJumpin Jays is by far one of the best seafood restaurants in Portsmouth NH. We are from the Boston area and are in Portsmouth quite often. We have dined at several other restaurants in the area but we are always drawn back to Jumpin Jays. Love the oysters, little neck clams, mussels and of course the entree's.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMJ J sGreat ......as always. Good food, good service and friendly staff. Never had a bad meal here.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest seafood restaurant myBest seafood restaurant my wife and I have ever been to. For us it is for special occasions 2-3 times a year.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent DiningThe food at Jumpin Jays Fish Cafe was excellent. The seafood was very fresh and the menu contained good variety of preparation styles. The service was also wonderful. I will highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great mealWe went to Jumpin' Jay's to celebrate Mother's Day! Everything was great!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful eveningGreat meal and service on Fri 5/10 celebrating birthdays and Mother's Day with my son and my elderly parents. Our waitress was super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. She even went above and beyond without our asking- secretly securing 2 candles in our 2 desserts because she could tell we were there to celebrate.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBravo! My husband and I were in neighboring Newburyport for the day and hoped to find a place that served a Raw Bar but came up empty. Using Yelp, we decided to visit Jumpin' Jays Fish Cafe. It was fabulous. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable and thoughtful. We liked the combination of funky decor and upscale cuisine. We appreciated the menu choices and especially loved the smoked calamari in the Raw Bar. Sourcing local ingredients is another plus. Already we have both recommended JJFC to our friends & co-workers. We will be back.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as usualJumping jays has become our go-to place for a nice dinner out. It has great food and a positive atmosphere. Their hostess, Chelsea, does an excellent job of keeping patrons happy in a very busy restaurant.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe couldn't get in on Sat,We couldn't get in on Sat, so we went on Sun--turned out in our favor. We really had a great time. Not the first time I've been there--but the best. The meal was really excellent and the service was spot on--not overbearing but attentive. Would highly recommend.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMswordfishThe portions were adequate but the food was terrific. I, of the small appetite ate my whole meal and was satisfied but I think that the rest of my party could have had more. Tthat, after munching on bread and olives and baked garlic, and drinking cocktails before our entree was served, and then sharing a hot fudge brownie sundae among the four of us for dessert with coffee and in one case a cappucino after dinner.
Service was excellent and our table was ready for us when we got in.
What more can I say? It was a totally delilghtful evening.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly surprisedWe went for a Friday night dinner, in a city that has a ton of good restaurants. This one is a few blocks away from the center of town, but it was a lively scene, many happy diners. Started with oysters on the half-shell, a mix of PEI varieties. Twelve shells came out but only 11 had oysters on them, but they happily replaced the missing mollusk. Entrees were excellent, such as the lobster carbonara. Overall, a great find and we'll certainly come back.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat date night dinnerMy husband and I went here for a date night dinner. The lobster bisk was yummy but could have used some more goodies in it. The drinks were good. The calamari was very good too!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the place for fish3 types of delicious oysters, superbly cooked flounder and salads. Efficient service. No other place on the seacoast can match the quality of a seafood meal here. If only it weren't so noisy.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost a Perfect ExperienceThe food here is amazing! We had the Fried Oysters appetizer, & they were the best we have ever had anywhere. I tried the Thai Green Curry special, & I would come back for that dish alone. Our waitress Meredith was wonderful. She was attentive, friendly and knew the menu well. The only reason we didn't give service 5 stars is because when we arrived, we had about 10 minutes to wait for our table (we were early), so we went to the upstairs bar for a drink. We were the only 2 people standing there. The bartenders ignored us for the entire 10 minutes. One of them stood right in front of us talking to waitresses, sorting her checks and never looked up at us. It really started our night off on the wrong foot. Our server Meredith saved the night.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite Portsmouth restaurantJumpin Jays is so consistently great! We go there every time we visit the Portsmouth area and went two nights in a row this visit.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMVery rude hostessI had an excellent dinner and waitress. However, my entire experience was ruined by a very unpleasant and rude hostess. I was seated at the window, at 7:00. As the sun went down, the glare was awful. So I adjusted the shade next to me. Then the car headlights were right in my line of vision, so I asked the waitress to adjust the blinds at the next table. Suddenly the hostess comes running over, opens the blinds and tells us that the other diners, and the people outside need the shades open! She was very rude.
later I had to adjust the blinds, as the headlights were glaring. She gave me a nasty look.
When I left, I told her she should be worried about the customers eating dinner. She had a very haughty and nasty answer.

Very nice ambiance. Had asked for a seat near a window and we had a lovely table by the window. We did not realize it was restaurant week but was informed at the hotel we were staying. My husband chose off the special menu and I had haddock piccata. Everything was wonderful. Mussels were wonderful and fresh, salad with gorgonzola was wonderful. Haddock picata was very tasty. My husband enjoyed his fluke. We both tasted each others as well and agreed both were really good. We normally do not do dessert but the key lime pie was the best. Wine and beer lists were long and choices were many. I enjoyed my cote de rhone.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were sorry when we finishedWe were sorry when we finished eating, because the food was so delicious and the service, so gracious!!!Jumpin Jays was highly recommended to us. First time and it won't be our last time. Reasonably priced... wonderfully fresh seafood raw or cooked to perfection. Chef caters to Dietary Restrictions. Waitress also very imformed of what is in each dish. Everyone pitches in to help waitress. This place is a GEM. I'm sorry that it took us so long to try it. No disappointments here... all is very YUMMY. Casual Dining and don't be afraid to go as a group. Very comfortable atmosphere. Now, one of our favorites.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMJumpin Jays was "jumpin" theJumpin Jays was "jumpin" the Saturday night that we went for dinner, and we were glad that we made advance reservations. The atmosphere is sort of "50's" with funky metal tables and chairs that reminded me of my grandma's kitchen when I was a kid. The food was very good and our wait person "KJ" was just excellant. The prices were typical for downtown Portsmouth - moderately high. My only criticism would be that the wine list could use some work. All-in-all, we had a very good experience and can heartily recommend Jays to all!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my third time diningThis was my third time dining here and it gets better every time. The food is amazing and cooked perfectly, don't have to wait longer than 10-15min for it to come out on even busy nights. The service was also really great, took us a while to decide on the wine and meal but our server was patient and very helpful in answering all of our questions thoroughly about both the food and wine. The lobster fetuccine was just the right portion of delicious richness. I tried a bite of the Arctic Char and thought it was tasty. My boyfriend liked all of the sauces in the sauce sampler. The staff was attentive enough and the bread (which was just right) came at the right time. We'll be back there again. Great seafood!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHaddock PicattaWe love this place. Haddock Picatta is our favorite. The ambiance is nice, but almost "shabby chic" and can come off as not matching the prices.
