Rare these days is being able to hear the others at your table. Not so, here: very high ceilings, comfortable space separating tables, courteous patrons. Service is friendly and attentive. Menu selections are diverse, nicely presented and excellently prepared, all at very economical prices for such fine dining. Wine list is modest, but not the usual vintners...Julia Morgan building is impressive, but it makes for an odd restaurant setting. University area, so parking can be tricky (though there is an unobtrusive lot across the street).

We had scallops for appetizers, perfectly cooked. My wife had the swordfish and she was pleasantly surprised how moist and delicious it was. I had the duck breast. Even though it was not hot it did have great flavors, I still would recommend the duck. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. This might be the best place in Berkeley

Julia's, at The Berkeley City Club, is an oasis in the middle of Berkeley. The wine list is unique, and the food was outstanding. I can't believe that I used to live in the Bay Area, and I had never heard of the City Club, or Julia's. Check it out. It's worth the visit.

Julia's is in the Julia Morgan-designed Berkeley City Club, a historic building listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It's known as Morgan's "Little Castle," since she also designed Hearst's castle, San Simeon. This building is a true architectural gem with now, a first class restaurant. Be sure to attend plays by Central Works and chamber music concerts by Berkeley Chamber Performances, also held in this gorgeous venue.

Fresh choices of California's bounty prepared and delivered with skill and art in a one of a kind historic building. Julia Morgan Architect (Julia's) was designing and building Hearst Castle around the same time as she was working on the Berkeley City Club and many of the features at Hearst Castle can also be seen here. The entire building is poured in place concrete, shaped and molded into what many regard as "The Little Castle." It is a mix of styles: medieval, Gothic, Baroque but it all comes together in one word: awesome. Likewise, the restaurant mixes the best of what our region produces and in the shelter of this amazing structure presents to your palate: awesome. I love The Slanted Door, Kokkari , Delfina and dining HERE! Thank you Chef Alaun Grimaud!

Julia's is a step into the elegance and grace that once was Berkeley (and a lot of other places as well). First of all, the building is a lovingly preserved piece of Julia Morgan architecture and sets the stage for an excellent dining experience. We arrived a bit early and enjoyed a cocktail in the bar (the bartender happily split one very good Manhattan for the two us). The dining room is clearly that of a private and exclusive club but it is calm, inviting and gracious as well. All of this and excellent knowledgeable service to support the obvious talent and creativity in the kitchen. Julia's is a great contrast to, and escape from, the otherwise seedy and depressing community that surrounds it.

I had not been here for a few years. But with a new chef in the kitchen the food has changed dramatically in the restaurant "Julia's" in the Berkeley City Club. I went with a friend for lunch and everything we had was very good! The service is wonderful also. And of course the atmosphere at the Julia Morgan designed club is very special. Will go for dinner next.

Julia's is a very fine dining experience with an interesting menu and excellent food. The ambiance is of course exquisite, the dining room being in Julia Morgan's little castle.Worth going just to see her amazing architectural style. There were 4 of us, and we had no trouble hearing each other but that might have been that we were there on the late side and there were not many other dinners. I know it can get noisy in the dining room when full. The risotto was delicious as was the salmon. The gem salad was totally fresh and dressed to perfection. I definitely recommend Julia's.

Located in Julia Morgan's historic Berkeley City Club. The food is outstanding, ambiance quietly elegant, a la Julia. Great place to dine or just have a drink at the bar before taking in a live performance at the theater located in the same building. We just enjoyed a performance by the Hausmann Quartet (Berkeley Chamber Performances series.) Restaurant is generally quiet enough to carry on conversation but it can get noisy as sound builds and reverberates in vaulted ceilings. But that won't keep us from coming back. Looking forward to expanded menu offerings. So delicious! Compliments to the chef.

We knew it would be good, because two friends recommended it based on separate dining experiences. Even with high expectations coming in, they managed to impress. The service was fantastic. For example, our desire for four plates served one at a time as four courses was not only met with a smile, but they plated each up separately without us asking. We had a wine that was amazing, and not expensive. All four plates were fantastic. Well done!

The Berkeley Club is a beautiful historical hotel. Our table was next to an open window in the dining room, which we appreciated because it was hot outside but pleasant inside. Dinner was prompt and service was excellent-friendly staff. My friend's tuna was over cooked and she expressed to the waitress that she preferred her tuna more rare. The waitress removed plate and returned later with tuna, cooked rare-excellent. I had the Risotto, which was also very good. Warm bread was brought to table before dinner was served, which we enjoyed with our wine. Service was great and we had a very pleasant evening there.

We were totally surprised by this restaurant. I was looking for a restaurant close by Zellarbach Hall at UC Berkeley. It's an old building but the ambiance was superb. The ladies had chicken and the men had lamb chops. Both were delicious. Definitely a place that we will visit in the future simply for the food. Executive Chef Alaun Grimard definitely deserves five stars.

We were recommended Julia's the night before and wondered why we have never gone. Friends claimed it was one of the great dining spots of the bay area. My son was in town and he said he'd like to go to CPC for his birthday dinner... called, couldn't get in till 10pm. Hey, what about Julia's? What a grand surprise! Exciting to enjoy totally refined french cuisine. All the dishes we ordered from fish, steak, to vegetarian were a delight to the palette. We had just returned from France, dining in Paris and Burgundy and this was just as grand....at a fraction of the price. Go! Eat! Enjoy the Berkeley City Club and the elegant food and service.

In “hindsight”, celebrating our anniversary, we had a wonderful experience with the exception of uncomfortable chairs! Our server–Jessica answered our myriad of questions with aplomb. She even had Chef Grimaud offer his recipe for the romesco sauce served with the squid appetizer. Our dishes included pungent beet salad, entrees of chicken prepared 2 ways and roasted lamb rack with its savory chimichurri sauce. My only negative was the accompanying eggplant and julienne “okay-flavored” red bell peppers were overdone for my taste. For dessert a shared dee-lish piping hot berry cobbler with a refreshing scoop of corn ice cream. The Chef was very kind to comp our dessert! Possibly because of our intended plan to FIX THE CHAIRS crusade? Enjoy!
