Once again enjoyed "Yesterday's Soup" the Veal Shank was so moist, it fell off the bone and could simply cut it with a fork. The Blue Cheese au gratin potatoes were to curl your toes. Of course Celina and staff were so kind as well as curteous. Thanks for a memorable Birthday.

My wife and I made a last minute reservation using Open Table and were very pleased with everything about the restaurant. We showed up just as the restaurant was opening for dinner, were seated promptly, and were quickly introduced to the menu and specials. We were both very pleased with our menu choices; we both thought that the food was outstanding and the service was attentive without being intrusive. We eat in the area fairly often even though we live up near the Kansas City airport, so the Brookside area is a destination for us. This was our first time at Julian's and we will definitely visit again when we are in the area

It is possible Chef Tio may seat, serve or simply chat it up a bit with you. But with certainty, she will cook up a genuine, delicious, top-end meal usually reserved for those who have more disposable income than us, and she will do this as if she is at your home dinner table. Go on Sunday evening and enjoy the four-course speciality (keeping it a mystery is more fun) meal for a VERY modest $35. On our recent visit, the fennel pasta appetizer was melt-in-your-mouth wonderful and the salad had delightful crunchy sweet/spicy candied nuts, followed by fantastic chicken over a white bean/kale base and finished by pound cake with lemon sauce and berries. OK, I just made myself hungry again. Can't wait to go back for our next celebration.

Well this was delicious. Our first time in and Celina Tio seated us herself! This is a cozy little spot tucked away in Brookside and is worth the trip. Delicious food and charming atmosphere. The short ribs and Brussel sprouts were great along with the homemade pretzels and Gouda. We enjoyed every minute even with slower service (which I expected based on some reviews). If we lives closer this place would be dangerous!

We were there for a special occasion. It could not have been better experience. They were super busy because of a special event. Even with that going on they made it a joy to be there. The food was excellent. The chef came out to personally talk to us. It was an overall great experience.

The food was prepared perfectly, and the ingredients were fresh and high-quality. Those of us who had the scallops all agreed they were the best we'd had in years. I can't recommend Julian enough for a fantastic meal. On the down side, the restaurant itself could have been cleaner. The Ambience didn't match up to the excellent quality of the food!

I visited Julian over their fifth-anniversary weekend and finally got to try a dish that they've had in the past and brought back for the occasion: Lobster Shepherd's Pie. It was everything I could never have even begun to imagine. One of the best entrees I've ever had.

Our dinner at Julian's met all expectations with one disappointment. We were unable to consider the roast pork entrée because it arrived late at the restaurant and was not ready at 7 pm when we ordered. Very possibly not Julian's fault but a disappointment all the same. On the other hand, the salmon deviled eggs and arugula salad starters were outstanding. Our entrees, chicken and scallops, were well prepared and very tasty. A nice wine at a reasonable price completed a very enjoyable dinner. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others looking for a well prepared meal in the Brookside area.

Excellent food. Four of us order four different meals. The pork was not available that evening, so it must be very good, next time will have to try. We all shared our meals and we all loved each entree. The salmon deviled eggs are divine. Unique atmosphere. I had found this place a few years ago on Check Please. We would recommend it to our friends back home.

We were looking forward to a dining experience at a restaurant owned by a master chef, but found the food average at best. The evening was beautiful and we enjoyed the outside patio at least. I had an open-faced pork belly "BLT." The pork belly was rubbery and hard and the egg on top was cooked hard instead of over-easy. I mentioned this to the waiter (he was new) who came back 10 minutes later when I was nearly done to offer a replacement egg. My wife's $14 hamburger was "OK." All-in-all it seemed like average café fair at double the price.

We absolutely love Chef Celina. But the pattern has emerged that when she is not on premises the food suffers and the service suffers. It hurts me to say that, but we are finding it to be the case. We are big fans of Julian.

Very nice selection, and we appreciate seeing one or two vegetarian options beyond salads. However, our selections were kind of blah considering the prices we paid. My pork shoulder entree had a nice creme fraich sauce, and was plenty tender, but flavorless. It reminded me of the pork shoulder I used to prepare in my crockpot: juicy, but needing lots of added ingredients to make it special. We had the hush puppies and pretzel sticks. As someone used to the wonderful corn meal hushpuppies served on the East coast, Julian's version of them were moist but flavorless. Since the pretzels are good but bland, the dip served with them needs to be much zestier than the very mild gouda cheese sauce. The arugala salads were fine, if not notable.

Food was great--from the hamburger to the scallops, every entree tasted delicious. The service was inconsistent and seems to be the case recently. While I think the server had good intentions. our wait time was more than I thought necessary considering the restaurant was not overcrowded. Overall, a better experience than our last!

Would not recommend and no reason to return. Service and food both average to below average. Atmosphere below average, sat on patio lined wth broken and rusted heaters that should have been stored out of site. Visit at 7:00pm on Saturday evening and both patio and inside almost empty. It seems a lot more attention needs to be paid by the owner concerning food, wait staff, and atmosphere.

We were seated and enjoyed a very pleasant, romantic and quiet experience. The wine list was superb. The meals were timely and excellent. Service was there when you needed them and not when you wanted to be alone. All in all an excellent experience in a truly gem of a restaurant in Brookside. I would highly recommend Julian and will definitely return myself.

Julian has a wonderful and eclectic menu! We have had brunch, lunch and dinner there and have been very happy with every meal. The outdoor patio is so lovely, the service is wonderful and the food is really good. They have the world's best French fries, and the chocolate bread pudding is outrageously good!! Also, a great cocktail menu and wine list.

Chose this restaurant for a special occasion dinner and loved the food/wine list. Was disappointed with the choice of seating - seated near the door and a noisy TV in the bar and only later discovered more seating in the rear of the restaurant that we were not offered. Liked the timing and spacing of food courses but would have liked to order another glass of wine and never got that opportunity. Dishes we particularly liked were the pretzels and the bread pudding for dessert.

My wife and I decided to have brunch with her sister's family. Having kids is sometimes hard looking for a nice cozy place where you can enjoy good food and still be able to manage kids . We our daughters with us , one almost 3 y.o. and the almost 7 months plus my 3 y.o niece . They provided us a nice place where we sat and did not disturb the other customers . Front of the house , waitresses and the chef was really warm and welcoming .. Good was great , my wife loved the dish she picked the tofu scrambled with grilled veggies and she loved it and I was happy with my Cuban Benedict. Our daughter got the Mac and cheese and almost finish her bowl.Lastly the orange cheesecake was amazing !! We are looking forward to our next visit !!!

We were seated immediately and the waitress was very friendly. However, we asked for indoor seating and had a table next to the open "window" kitchen. The ambiance was that of a small town diner and certainly not on the same scale as the prices. The food was average and nothing to go back a second time for. Perhaps dining outside would have had a better feel but due to the limited selection and the cost of the meals I would not return.
