A taste of Boulevard St. Germain on St. Mark’s, Jules Bistro has captivated diners for twenty years with its amber coziness, nightly live jazz and authentic French bistro cuisine.

Having resided in Harlem for many years upon his move to New York, owner Georges Forgeois was inspired to bring the energy of the many jazz venues he frequented down to the Rock ‘n Roll East Village. With Jules, Georges revived the long overlooked jazz era and introduced it to a whole new generation alongside heaping piles of moules frites, bubbling bowls of onion soup gratinée and tender onglet de boeuf.

Whether you’re stopping by for a glass of red, settling in for a romantic meal or enjoying the music, Jules Bistro delivers a memorable experience with the reassurance "we’ll always have Paris."

  • "Took advantage of the Loire Valley Week Menu: oysters with wine pairing and cod, also with wine pairing - both were delicious. Service was friendly & good - never felt rushed to finish courses, ambience was fun, and the jazz music was really wonderful. The restaurant only takes Amex and cash, which the maitre'd told me when I confirmed over the phone and again, when I gave my name at the reservation desk. It's always nice to go to a french restaurant where the servers are french (the accent made us feel like we were in Paris). Will definitely go back soon."

  • "Small basement level spot with regular live jazz. Our group of 4 was seated right in front of musicians, which seemed nice at first, but then ended up being more disruptive to the conversation. Service was pretty good. The ambiance was appropriate, the menu selection has some interesting options. The sore point: expensive food that was absolutely not worth the price. It was not bad, but fairly underwhelming. "

  • "Our first time at Jules was a very mediocre experience. Escargots appetizer plate was good, but the french onion soup and the hanger steak were rather disappointing. We loved the live music and the ambiance and may possibly drop in again just for a drink. I rate the service "poor" because of the waitress. The rest of the staff was pretty pleasant and helpful. The waitress was short in her communication, almost poked my eye while cleaning a few plates from the table and really did not know how to communicate the absence of items (wine to steak frites) in a nice way to direct us to another choice. Another female employee (maybe the manager) even asked her if everything was OK while she was being unpleasant with us. "

  • "Why can't they make croque madame sans jambon? Because it's frozen. The ham literally cannot be physically dissociated from the cheese. The jazz is good, and I'd go there for drinks and music. But I went as a restaurant. Which it wasn't, really. My crepe, which, being the daily special, did allow of the 86ing of the jambon, was thoroughly lackluster. It did not neglect to be lackluster in any regard: not in its conception or execution, its texture or its taste. Which is, I suppose, an accomplishment of sorts. A pity, because the band was good."

  • "I' ve been there with my husband and we had a special night out!I took the soup de jour(creamy mushrooms)and a plate of cheese a d meat for him(huge...I suggest you to share).As main course I had the skate wings and he took the lamb cooked into the wine....both simply delicious!We ended with a Tarte Tatin to share and we definetly "had a jump" in Paris!!!"

  • "We were looking for a nice place for dinner and some live music and found Jules Bistro on Open Table and thought we would give it a try. Feuled only by other patrons reviews we tried it and absolutely LOVED the restaurant. The risoto was to die for. The sauteed spinach was incredible. And the music was amazing. On top of all that we had a wonderful server who really made the experience even better. There was a great live jazz band playing and we had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend this restaurant!!"

  • "I had my birthday dinner here with my best friend. The host saved a seat for us right in front of the jazz band...it was like having front row seats with a completely unobstructed view. The bartender was lovely and very friendly. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The music was fantastic. I will definitely be coming back!!!"

  • "Went here on a date after seeing a show downtown. We were early for our reservation but it wasn't problem, we were still seated right away. Initially they sat us by the window- I think so we could have privacy but it was pretty cold and the window's are not insulated so we requested to move to a different table- they accommodated us no problem. Though we sat down after 10 the restaurant was still relatively packed. The live music was really enjoyable and not disruptive at all. At one point our waitress- who's french, joined the band for a song- it was a fun treat and made for an authentic experience. The food was good- the duck breast was well cooked and my date liked his chicken. Would def go back."

  • "Always a pleasure coming here, but I only bring people I really like because I don't want to ruin this little gem! I attended a wine tasting here years ago, or I would never have found this place. Cramped, worn red leather and wood decor, but it's so beautiful and the setting is intimate. Live jazz periodically plays, which is always a treat (yes it gets loud, get over it and enjoy it!). The lovely French lady server I usually have even sings sometimes, which is so cool. Cons: I always have to ask them to warm/toast my baguette to go with my escargots (SO GOOD), and they only take cash and Amex. Pros: Everything else! Totally worth the trip downtown. Keep it up Jules, don't ever change, I love you just the way you are!"

Tables near that rear of the restaurant are around the corner from the music. The rear, however, is a narrow space with servers and bus crew passing through with chairs and racks overhead.   • "My mother came to New York for Thanksgiving. The entire East Village was dead except for Jules. It was candlelit, lively, and filled with beautiful people. Its as if we stumbled into Paris. We were seated in the front next to the live jazz band. The waiters, managers, and waitresses were doing everything in their power to make us feel special. They were all so charming and charismatic. Our waitress even stood up and belted an impressive melody. We were given complimentary champagne, wine, seltzer water, and our meals were delicious. It was such an enjoyable moment. Now no other restaurant I take my mom is as good as Jules. It set the bar too high."

  • "even that the table for 2 space is really reduced(very common in NYC) they manage to do the best possible. I highly recommend to go early(around 7:30) so it is possible to use the adjacent table. The service is REALLY outstanding, they are not buzzing around your table but in the second you need they come. The food came pretty fast. A mandatory place to go if you are in NYC. the night we went there was a nice jazz band(I am not a fan of jazz but my girlfriend say they where amazing, in my opinion it was the perfect sound for a dinner)."
