Diner Reviews
  • "I really enjoy the new accessibility of the New JR's. I continue to be impressed by the new menu and food. I believe it is the same quality for less money, with no smoking. I am at a loss to understand why the wine sippers are so appalled to now have patrons who are drinking beer from a mug from a bottle sitting next to them. Truth be told, that is what all of the complaining has been about!"

  • "Took the best of JR's Grill menu and combined it with the best of JR's Steakhouse menu. Great idea. I can still have a great steak and not have to dress up for dinner. Glad they kept the best calamari ever on the menu."

  • "I tried the grilled plank salmon on the new menu, which now sells for $16.00 versus over 20 on the old menu. The new salmon has lost all of that excess seasoning which ruined the flavor of the salmon-the way that they used to serve it, and is a great improvement. So as to this dish, you get a significantly lower price, and an improved dish-a winner on both fronts! I shall return to try some of the other old, improved dishes!"

  • "I was really confused when my favorite fine dining restaurant closed for remodeling, but was excited to see the new changes. My friend was in from LA and a group of us went here for dinner. We were greatly disappointed, it went from fine dining to bar environment throughout the restaurant. The decor and setup is an eye sore, the quality and taste of food was disappointing. And the server wasn't very knowledgable and you could tell he didn't want to be there. We had been looking forward to trying Jrs out when they reopened. It was a waste of our time and money."

  • "Well, where do I start? Combining the Steakhouse and Bar & Grill is good on paper, but I don't think it works in actuality. We had a party of 4 and reservations on a Saturday night and things were going great, but then I saw a family of 4, with the dad in shorts and the mom in sweat pants. We used to think this was a 'special' place to go, and now it's a lot more like.... Chili's. The food was good, but I wouldn't say great. I did like that they had a 'Date Night' deal on the menu. We will most likely be spending our special nights somewhere else. If I'm going to be paying $160 for a 2-person meal, I don't want it to be next to a crying 4 yr. old. We've had some great nights there in the past, but won't spend that kind of money there again."

  • "What was a great local steak resturant is now a place to eat without identity. No longer special. I don't want to eat an expensive steak dinner next to a crowd eating $8 fried bologna sandwiches. You CANNOT be all things to all people. So sorry you tried. I won't be back."

  • "Combining JR Steakhouse and JR's Grill into one restaurant was a mistake. This now seems like going to an Outback Steakhouse instead of a nicer restaurant. Steak was average at best. If you are looking for a casual place to watch a game, might be fine for bar food but no longer a destination restaurant."

  • "We have long been customers of J.R.'s Steakhouse and J.R.'s Grill. The decision to combine the two venues is outstanding. We dined with another couple and two of us had pepper crusted filets off the Steakhouse menu while two had the parmesan fried chicken from the Grill menu. All the food was outstanding, and of course, I could pass on J.R.'s wonderful calamari."

  • "JR's has regrouped and combined the steakhouse with the grill. The only pro was some of the prices had been lowered. But so had the quality. It was very noisy and the wait help was not so attentive. This was my favorite place for a good steak but I will not go back."

  • "We were looking for a nice steakhouse for a nice date night. When we arrived we realized they combined the steakhouse and the grill. The service was poor- once we were able to order drinks and appetizers it took 20 mins to finally get appetizer. The steak was overcooked and not good quality. I've had better at Outback. The ambience was more of a sports bar casual atmosphere."

  • "This was our first visit to JR's. We usually go to Bob's Steak and Chop for our anniversary. We had heard very good reviews about JR's Steakhouse. To our disappointment, JR's is no longer a high end steakhouse. It's at best a sports bar with $40-50 steaks. The food was excellent, but the ambience and service were not that of Bobs. We paid for a romantic meal served by a Cheddars quality server in a sports bar."

  • "JR's has upgraded its interior, looking more spacious, and, most importantly, NO SMOKING inside! The filets have gone down in price, and are just as good, in quality, as the old JR's we have become familiar with! As a bonus, the side is now free, and they are generous with the free side of mash, which is also very good!"

  • "JR's finally has banned smoking inside the bar/restaurant, and has blended the best of both of the menus of the former restaurant and grill, so, aptly renaming the restaurant JR's Steak and Grill. The prices on almost all of the former JR's Steak house entrees have gone down by at least 2 dollars (ie. the filet) and now include a choice of a side, which is new. The grilled salmon has dropped in price all the way down to $16.00 all the way down from 25. The staff tell me that they are using the same suppliers for their food as before, so the quality should be the same, and, as far as I could tell, was."

  • "The food was excellent, this was my second time dining with them and a first for my wife, I'd previously been there for business. On my first visit the waitress we had was spectacular, this time around, not so much. He was nice enough but not very attentive and spoke very low."

  • "J.R.'s Steakhouse is outstanding in every way. Great food and service. The pepper crusted filets were perfect and the Calamari is the best of any restaurant we have ever visited."

  • "Our server, Tyrell, made our dining experience very enjoyable. He was attentive without hovering, very well versed in the menu, very well spoken, and an all around exemplary representative of your fine dining establishment. The wet-dry T-bone steaks were wonderful as was my wife's crab cake dish."

  • "the food was excellent as steaks were prepared exactly as ordered. appreciate the owner(?)/manager stopping by our table to personally inquire if meal experience was satisfactory."

  • "The T-bone special was way overpriced for what I received. It was good but not worth the price."

  • "Had a great Bone-In Filet, cooked to perfection. Enjoyed the dinner very much. We had a group of four and everyone was pleased with their meals and service."

  • "We have been to JR's on multiple occasions, with time in between visits, and each time we go the food and service are exceptional. Unlike other upper end restaurants we have visited, we are always impressed with the consistency with our experience. This is truly one dining experience that is worth the time to enjoy, from the appetizer to dessert, you can't go wrong."

  • "Had a perfect table in front of fireplace while listening to small 3 person band playing in the bar. Sound carried through the fireplace (double-sided fireplace), gave us a wonderful dining experience. Sound level was the perfect amount, we were able to carry on a quiet dinner, but had music filling the air...the perfect Valentines Day mix!"

  • "The food was excellent as it usually is at JR'S. The portions were large both the starter and the sides. Each side is enough for 2 or 3 diners. Our last visit was on Valentines Day. The place was fully booked and the wait staff either could not keep up with the demand or JR'S had temps added to fill out the staff. We had sides not delivered until after the meal, missing silverware. No spoon with the coffee, just not up to JR'S usually standard. In the future we will avoid JR"S for "special days, since the y had so much triouble."

  • "The food was awesome! I had the petite fillets and my husband had the new york strip. It was seriously the best steak I have ever had. My only complaint was that you had to choose a set menu. I wasnt expecting that, but I booked a reservation online. If I had called Im sure they would have told me. So it was quite pricey, but we will definitely go back again, when there isnt a set menu. It is more of a special occasion place for us because we normally wouldnt spend that much money. It was delicious and we will recommend, just expect to spend a pretty penny. Also even though it was expensive we received SO much food. We were stuffed. The lobster bisque is also a must have. So good!"

  • "The only complaint that I have about J.R.'s is it is a little pricey. We knew it going in, but for two people $200.00 is a little pricey for dinner. But we had a wonderful time."

  • "We understand the need to pull help from the kitchen on occasion. However, the kid just was not up to par. When I told him my Caesars salad had no Caesar dressing on it, he looked at me and said "oh really" and walked off. My wife and I just laughed it off as the kid not knowing any better.....oh really! Once we got our food we did not hear from him till it was payout time. Steaks were fine, the appetizers were chewey and moderatly warm................Please Calamari to the pros. Next time, if there is one, we will eat at the bar, at least they seemed to have their act together."

  • "We have dined at JR's multiple times and love this restaurant. We have also dined at the restaurant several times on Valentines day.. This Valentines Day was not a good experience. We made a dinner reservation for 7:00 pm several weeks ago. After sitting at our table for 2 hours, we only received a lobster bisque and salad..we left around 9:15 without having dinner."

  • "Each time we have gone, it gets a little worse than the last... Too bad you can still smoke, certainly does not add anything!"

  • "We have been to JRs multiple times in the past over the past few years, typically for a special occasion. The staff does everything possible to accommodate any request you may have. It had been a while since we had been to JRs. I made reservations for Valentines dinner. When we got there the first thing that hit us as we walked in the door was a strong smell of cigarette smoke. I know they allow smoking but I don't remember it being that strong in the waiting area in past visits. I can see where this could be a major turn off. We ended up having to wait about 30 minutes on our table. Not upset or surprised by this given that it was valentines day. The food was outstanding as usual and no smoke smell in the dining area."

  • "Filet mignon was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Quality of appetizer and dessert were well below what I was expecting. Service was slow and inattentive. We did not get the experience we should have based on the price we paid."

  • "We choose JRs to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. The experience was everything we expected it to be. The food was superb, the service was great, the atmosphere was romantic and elegant without being stuffy. This was not our first visit to JRs and certainly won't be our last."

  • "We went with a few other friends to JRs - a total of 6 in our party. The food, from the bread to the desserts, was amazing. My steak was perfectly cooked - and I mean perfectly. Its amazing how many steak places can get that wrong. Our server seemed either overbooked or distracted though and we waited between rounds of drinks, waited to hear the specials, waited to order...you get the idea. It was more annoying than awful though, and it definitely didn't distract from the food. In other words, the less-than-great service would not stop me from going back -- the food was awesome."

  • "Our party of 4 enjoyed our evening at J. R.'s. It was a birthday celebration for my 23 yr. old son and because I indicated the occasion on our reservation, he was treated with a beautiful piece of birthday cheesecake! That was the final piece to our excellent meal. The steaks were perfect as was the salmon. The only complaint I have is that our salmon was a tad too salty. We each ordered a different salad as well as a delicious order of calamari. The servers were wonderful and attentive. We will definitely consider J.R.'s again for a special evening out."
