Diner Reviews
  • "We all enjoyed what we ordered, sitting outside in beautiful weather. Our server was perfect and friendly. We'll come back!"

  • "My group of 4 ladies who brunch chose this location as our monthly spot. The service was great with the server giving honest and good recommendations. I had the eggs benedict and they were awesome. The hollandaise sauce was light and tasty and the potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I really enjoyed myself."

  • "The bar is very noisy but once you are seated in the restaurant, it is completely quiet. I think the dinner menu is a bit limited, however, our selections were delicious."

  • "Wonderful right on the Mission Beach boardwalk and terrific ocean view."

  • "The patio at JRDN is an outstanding location to have group events."

  • "From Chicago and probably enjoyed one of the best steaks of my life for dinner. Very tender and flavorful. Had an awesome avocado appetizer finished with truffle oil. Ate outside amongst the ocean views. Noise level was moderate enough to have a most memorable dinner with my wife. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for high quality and flavorful eats in Pacific Beach."

  • "I have been going there for four years in a row, Thursday and Saturday night, same weekend. Spend $550.00 each year. This year was terrible! Won't go back. They no longer have lobster, the crab leg appetizer was dry, they were the skinny legs, cut in half, served one forkful for each of us(2). (2 legs cut in half). The special bone in ribeye was TASTELESS!!!! I've had Costco steak with 10 times the flavor! Needless to say, after still spending $230.00, we cancelled our Saturday reservation."

  • "The most romantic setting in Pacific Beach! The food was incredibly flavorful, and encourage your server to recommend a steak butter and sauce. There are many butters and sauces to choose from and our server was very knowledgeable when it came to pairing each with our steak selections. The lighting, contemporary atmosphere, and great service made our dining experience a very memorable one."

  • "Great food and well handled gluten free, but it was so loud I could almost not hear my companion."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Sophisticated restaurant with a more contemporary feel. A good view of the ocean while dining inside or out. Definitely a great date night place. The restaurant offers free valet parking for 3 hours after validation from the restaurant, which is great since parking in PB can be a challenge. Would definitely come back here!"

  • "A little out of the way in Pacific Beach. Cool vibe. Menu is a little small but food is well-prepared."

  • "We had a wonderful Sunday Brunch. The location was great for people watching and ocean view. Our server was on top of everything and even remembered our special requests each time we ordered something. Not a big selection of food for brunch, but what they did have was done well. Bloody Mary's were fabulous!"

  • "It seemed pretty loud inside, especially for a Saturday afternoon. But, the patio was perfect. The food was delicious, a perfect blend of comfort food with a modern twist. Definitely go for the ceviche tostadas. The bloody Marys and flavored mimosas were great. The waitress was chill and completely on top of her stuff. They do three hours of parking with restaurant validation, perfect for a meal and a nice stroll down the boardwalk to let your meal settle. Overall, awesome."

  • "First off this was a very important date for me so I went online and booked almost a week in advance. The whole reason I reserved a table was because I had the special request of sitting outside to see the sunset. The day before the reservation the manager even called to confirm my reservation and I made it very clear that I REALLY needed the special request to be met. None of the hostesses knew about my reservation. We waited the 10 minutes for them to tell us there was no seating outside. We had to sit inside next to a table full of sleeveless guys and guido girls who all wore sunglasses inside and didn't even eat food (they just drank all night and were really loud). They were also out of ceviche and grey goose."

  • "Took my mom (83) and her friend for dinner. Had a beautiful table to watch the sunset. Dinner was delicious, it was quiet enough to hear well and energetic enough to be fun. It was a super experience!"

  • "Beautiful location and atmosphere for Pacific Beach to view the sunset and have cocktails and light fare; however, I didn't enjoy my dinner."

  • "One doesn't necessarily think of fine dining when they consider Pacific Beach. JRDN offers a view of the ocean, modern décor, and delectable cuisine. Looking for a place to hold a special event? You should check into holding your event at JRDN. Like wine? They have great wine events. It's a hidden, neighborhood gem that you'll be happy to discover."

  • "Very poor service. Our server left us after serving dinner. Then he never came back to take our dessert order, more than 30-mins! We had to flag down another server but at that point we just wanted to get home."

  • "Our lunch experience was less than expected. I had heard/read mixed reviews re. the restaurant. Some were raves, others not so much. I attributed that to the often finicky nature of higher end consumers/diners. On the positive side, the setting is excellent, as it's on the boardwalk. That said, there are several other P.B. restaurants with similar settings and lower prices. We had the blackened chicken salad. For the price, it was an indifferent offering with somewhat tough breast meat, iceberg lettuce, and little else. The dressing was the only thing that dressed it up. As there were no gluten free offerings, per se, one of us found the menu very limited. Our server was adequate, no more and no less. He took our order and served us."

  • "What? No more kale salad! How could this be? Well, they recovered. We ate some brussell sprouts and burgers and they were yummy. The service was attentive even though the place was crowded and hopping on a sunny, gorgeous Saturday afternoon."

  • "Wonderful service, delicious food, and fine wine... All around great experience! Wonderful happy hour specials on the bar side prior to the meal. One of the best steaks I've ever had... Would recommend going early to enjoy the sunset & the happy hour."

  • "This is a great place to take a group. We had our team dinner here. Excellent scallops, nice service and the view is spectacular. Always a fun place for cocktails."

  • "We had kale salads and added some chicken. They were delicious. Just the right amount of sweet, sour, and crunch. When one of us asked for the recipe for the salad dressing, the chef agreed. Altogether a fine experience."

  • "SLOW!!! OK food. Server was taking care of too many tables, and the heating units practically burned my hair off! It was also too loud to have a decent dinner conversation."

  • "We took our aunt for her 89th b.d. and 90-year-old dad came too. Inside the acoustics are so bad they could only hear what somebody yelled in their ear. Really we all (including my 20something daughters) had to yell to be heard across the table of 6 by each other. Out of five different meals, only the french toast, which really wasn't french toast, was considered delicious. the rest of the food was either odd in an untasty way or just mediocre in general. Quite a disappointment for all. Maybe outside would have been better, but the day was cloudy and chilly. On the other hand, the staff was lovely and helpful and we appreciate their attention to detail and the delicious birthday mud cake they served our aunt with a beautiful presentation."

  • "We celebrated our 34th Anniversary at JRDN at a friend's recommendation. The restaurant sits on the boardwalk in Pacific Beach with both indoor and outdoor dining. We were seated on the "nicer" side of the restaurant (crystal and white tablecloths) on the outdoor terrace, with a view of the boardwalk and beach. It was just the right combination of nice, but not too stuffy. Our service was attentive without being intrusive, and the food - he had the salmon with crispy skin and I had the roasted duck - was delicious! We particularly enjoyed their salad menu with a selection of greens and a variety of "goodies" and dressings to choose from. The "Happy Anniversary" chocolate cake our server surprised us was a lovely treat to end the meal."

  • "Six years ago my husband proposed to me on the beach and then took me to JRDN for dinner. Little did we know it would become our go to spot for special occasions. Went here for Valentine's Day dinner and had a wonderful time, as usual. I ordered the salmon and I am pretty confident that it was the best salmon I've ever had. Food, wine, and drinks were all excellent and the service was top notch. Can't wait to go again!"

  • "It is not a 'scenic' view if you expect to be sitting up high overlooking a grand beach-scape, but it is right on the boardwalk... if you are sitting outside. A great way to catch some sun and keep an eye on the people... and, you are beachside. Not a huge menu but everything we had was delicious. Generous portions and great brunch beverages."

  • "i have to say i was a bit disappointed:my mushroom potatoe brunch dish was extremely salty. I bring out of towners here and we are usually very happy with the experience. Perhaps it was just too busy and the cooking staff was more pressured than the usual."

  • "my wife ordered poached egg that were just about raw and the capuccino was luke warm"

  • "We had another fabulous meal at JRDN. We went the day after Valentine's Day. We all had the 8oz Filet, but because of the options given for it, we enjoyed different rubs and different sauces and different sides. All three preparations were delicious. My wife ordered the Kale salad. I do not like Kale, but she made me taste it and it was very good. It is not a quiet room, but feels vibrant and the noise was not a distraction as we could hear each other with a conversational voice. We sat inside this time, but in the past have enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the patio."

  • "We walked up at 4:48 pm for a 5 pm reservation. The hostess told us that they did not open for dinner until 5 pm and that we would have to wait about 10 minutes for our table. The noise level inside the restaurant was ridiculous, you couldn't even carry on a conversation and hear the other person. We sat on the patio, it was still very loud but not nearly as bad. The view of the sunset was pretty... when we could see it through all of the people standing on the boardwalk. The Food was ok but not worth the cost. I got the Chef's special, jumbo scallops. They were okay, nothing to write home about. My fiance had the tenderloin and while it was cooked to the right temperature, the crust of the steak had been burned. Server was excellent."

  • "My family and I were in town on vacation, and we happen to walk by this restaurant one night. While it looked like an adult only hipster spot, we decided we go ahead and try it out with our two-year-old and three-month-old. The staff was so embracing and sweet to us. I highly recommend this place as a date night out, but if you have kids, they were really sweet to us as well. They have a kids menu, but I just shared the pumpkin soup and the ravioli off the adult menu, and my daughter loves them both."
