Diner Reviews
  • "Made a reso for brunch on a saturday @ 11am on opentable, so convenient! Didn't even know their beautiful second floor existed. Service and food were great, 2nd floor was bright, gorgeous and had lots of room. Our party was two couples and we each had a baby/toddler. There was a big unisex bathroom on the main floor with a change table, which means that next time, the hubs can change the diaper while I sip on my delicious Caesar ;) Will def be back for brunch, lunch or dinner!"

  • "Overall experience was meh. Better breakfast places in the area."

  • "Short rib hash was amazing as were the scrambled eggs. Corn bread pancakes had the potential to be the same however they were a little burnt :-( although the blueberry lemon compote made up for the slight burn factor. Overall it was a great brunch portions were on point and the price in relation to how delicious the food was also scored points. definitely will be hitting this place up again in the near future."

  • "The service was slow and a little rude. The hostess insisted that we didn't have a reservation and sent two members of our party away even though an Open Table reservation was made the day before. The resteraunt was very, very cold. The brunch fruit was over ripe. Nice Benedict and short-rib hash, though. We won't be back."

  • "A very tasty wine followed by a juicy burger, delicious poutine and good Canadian butter tart! The waitress even thoughtfully put a candle into the tart for my friend's birthday. It was a very nice night."

  • "just to let you know there was a hair in one of my friends meal service slow on the uptake of taking away our plates had to remind server that there was special order for a happy birthday piece of cake"

  • "I had never been to Joy Bistro before. I wanted to take advantage of Winterlicious with a couple of friends. We live in that general area so I suggested Joy after checking out their menu for Winterlicious. We were not disappointed! We all picked different items on the menu and ended up tasting each other's because they were so delicious. The service was warm and courteous. I would definitely dine there again and would bring along friends and family."

  • "This was our second time having brunch at Joy and we enjoyed it just as much as the first. The menu is varied and very interesting. Starters and mains are excellent. The red quinoa, barley, jasmine rice salad was amazing. The Alaskan Halibut was just as delightful. Desserts like chocolate mousse & lemon tart were very high quality & most flavourful. Servers are very friendly, attentive and professional. We'll certainly return soon!"

  • "Very limited wine list, food overcooked, fries clumped. Seemed like restaurant us closing or very least neglected."

  • "The room was cold and table wobbly. The food was okay but the service was horrible. We waited forever for our drink orders while we could see the servers chatting and eating toast behind the bar. When they finally brought our coffee we had to ask for cream and stir it in with our forks. When we asked for spoons they said "would you like be to bring you some?"...um yah! The food was decent, but nothing great. The kids meal is good and it's nice to see fresh fruit offered. Good job with this. In the end the food could have been perfect but I still wouldn't go back because of the poor service."

  • "My friend and I had a great time at Joy Bistro. I'm a vegetarian and was given the option of having tofu/eggplant off the lunch menu. I loved it! We had organic red wine which was also a treat. My friend had the winterlicious meal and really enjoyed it. I will recomment this restaurant to my friends and family."

  • "Everything was great except for the vegan dish which was a little bland. Our server was great and overall we had a good time. I would recommend this place for casual dinning or drinks on the patio in the summer."

  • "I read some good reviews about Joy Bistro but our brunch was bland and the the staff seemed disinterested in serving us. Food could be taken up a notch ... I had poached eggs, home fries and toast (hard) which lacked flavour. I could have made it myself. For the $14 more of an effort was needed."

  • "We happened upon the Joy Bistro listing in the dining section of "Where Toronto" while looking for a place to have New Year's Day dinner this week. It is in on Queen St E in "Leslieville", an easy Queen St streetcar ride from our downtown hotel. It is a neighbourhood place, with families and couples and singles there that night, all enjoying January 1. Jasmine, the hostess/server was welcoming and efficient in seating us, and full of information about the day's menu. Our mains of baked halibut and shoulder of lamb were well-prepared, tasty, and in ample quantity. Jeff, the owner and one of the chefs, visited each table during our time there, wishing all well for the New Year, and seeking opinions about the food. We'll be back."

  • "We've eaten at Joy many times, most recently on New Years Day, and it has never failed to delight. The menu changes from time to time, and while sometimes favourites disappear, new and interesting dishes take their place. The carrot cake with lemon-cream cheese ice cream and caramel dribble is one of the best things ever. Our server at the last visit, Jasmine, was authentically upbeat and enthusiastic about the food, and, I expect, life in general. You can't go wrong here!"

  • "Joy Bistro is a real gem. The food and service was excellant. The choice of good but differently prepared foods was outstanding. This was our first visit but will not be the last. Looking forward to sitting on the patio on a summer's nite."

  • "We had our Christmas brunch here with 14 ladies and it was terrific, one server for our whole table who didn't make one error with any meal! Also had our cheques separate and the end and was quick to take payment. The food was beautiful to look at and tasted just as good! Thank you for the great experience!"

  • "Seemed like the menu underwent a makeover but with a disappointing result. While what we ordered was good the choice was not very diversified. The menu used to have more choices. There was only five or six red wines to choose from with our first choice not even available. If this had been our first experience at the restaurant I'm not sure I would go back but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time around."

  • "Joy Bistro in the heart of Leslieville was a real find and we will definitley be going back for more. The Quebec Eggs Benedict complete with poutine was amazing. Talk about comfort food - so tastey. Others in our group had the Leslieville Eggs Benedict, Warm Goat Cheese Salad and the Beef Burger - all were delicious. Everything appears to be made on premises including the ice cream and the ingredients are fresh and organic. Portions are a good size but not over the top - leaving room for dessert. The carrot cake was everyone in our group's favorite. We had our 3 year old grandson with us an we were pleased to see a number of children around the second floor dining room - definitely a kid friendly restaurant. Very good service too."
