Diner Reviews
  • "Great food during HP Market week. The fried chicken was fantastic, and our server was prompt and very helpful."

  • "Extraordinary barman--remembers clientele and their drinks--enjoy sitting/dining at bar as one meets interesting people--rather than just the two of us looking across each other. We do that 24/7. Food is always "top shelf"!"

  • "Four of us dined and each of us loved our food and it's presentation. Service was a little slow. Expect to spend $$$$ as each course is expensive. Wonderful for a special occasion!"

  • "Food is seasonally new. Ingredients fresh from the farm. All creations delicious!"

  • "This was our first time. We arrived a bit early and sat at the bar prior to our reservation. The bar tender was awesome. He made us feel like he was an old friend serving us drinks. Once we were seated the server was as friendly and courteous. She was attentive and thoughtful. The food was, I cant think of a better word, tastee. The only issue was that a large party was seated next to us about half way trough our meal and they were a bit loud. Personal space is at a premium there. My wife and I both decided that we would wait until warmer weather before going back to sit on their deck....."

  • "I am reticent to leave anything but a remarkable review as Josephine's is my favorite place to dine. I live in Central VA, so it's also a bit of a drive for me.We enjoy the fine dining experience & we appreciate both the careful pairing of flavors/textures Chef Chris normally puts into each dish & the farm to table prep. However, for a $17 appetizer, the foie gras was a grand disappointment. We have had the dish before & I was so looking forward to it. This visit, however, the proportion of foie gras to biscuit was off. The biscuit appeared to be the star of the dish this time around. The roasted oyster appetizer made up for some of that disappointment, as it was spot on & the rest of the food was fine-but the usual wow factor was missing."

  • "Three of us visited Josephine's on Thursday night and enjoyed the wine tasting at the bar which featured several French selections. We ordered a freshly made hummus tapas with phyllo chips which was delicious. I also recommend the beet salad and stuffed flounder entree which comes with roasted Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. One of Josephine's strengths is waitstaff that is knowledgable and friendly. The atmosphere in the dining room that evening was relaxed, informal, and welcoming. Josephine's remains one of my top restaurant choices."

  • "We were going to see a play at 7:30 PM, so we made dinner reservations quite early (5:00 PM) in order to be finished in time. We were actually there in time for the Early Bird Special, so we took advantage of that. The food is always good here. The only complaint I have would be insufficient parking, although at 5:00, we didn't have that problem."

  • "The food was very good and all of the ingredients were local. We are from out of town and this is our second time dining there and would definitely go again. The small plates are a great option. The service was outstanding."

  • "Even when part of our group arrived early, there was no problem. Table was ready and we were invited to relax and enjoy until others arrived. GM was extremely helpful and knowledgable in selecting wines from the outstanding list. Variety of food selections in small and larger portions was excellent; everyone found something to their liking. Even better, there was no push to turn the table, as we met after the ACC semi-finals and shared stories. Absolutely will return during next year's tournament."

  • "One of our favorite Greensboro dining spots. Knowledgable friendly staff. Food is amazing but 2 of the 3 specials were unavailable which was a disappointment because my husband and I wanted those 2 entrees. But plenty of other delectable dishes to choose from. We arrived at 7:30 for our 8:15 reservation but didn't get seated until 8:35. Initally the host had said there would be no problem being seated ASAP but clearly this wasn't the case. Fortunately we managed to stay comfortable at the bar until then as it seemed many patrons decides to linger longer than expected. Looking forward to our next dining experience here soon!"

  • "It was our first visit, on a Thursday night. The crowd was small, which made for a cozier evening (a plus for us). The food was outstanding & the service impeccable. They serve local/regional food that originates in (near?) North Carolina -- fresh & delicious! It is pricier than our standard night out, but this was a special occasion, so totally worth it. It's a must visit. We cannot wait to go back!"

  • "I am a big fan of both Josephine's & Lindley Park Filling Station, and I have been to both many times and will go many more times in the future. Conceptually, Josephine's captures what I love in a local fine dining spot. The menu is adventurous and gives you quite a bit of options to create the meal you truly want. I have had a bad experience with the food only once. While it was a bummer, I have to say that it was an isolated incident, and the manager Leigh handled things perfectly. The service is always wonderful, and our server Ryan could not have handled our complaints any better. I have been back several times since, and have not had an issue since. Walt & Becca are wonderful @ the bar, and the bar is my favorite part of Josephine's."

  • "Nice menu selection with upscale prices. However, the prices were worth it."

  • "As usual, we had an excellent experience with Josephine's. Food was fantastic, service was fun and engaged, and the bar makes my wife's favorite cosmopolitan in town. Can't recommend highly enough..."

  • "This was my first time at Josephine's. I had heard about the Wed. night mussel special since I moved to the area a month ago. I took my cousin and her husband and we each ordered one of the 3 mussel offerings along with two sides. There was nothing that did not at least meet our expectations. Dessert was a different story. We ordered 2 deserts. Both were delicious, but a little different from expectations. Overall, a pleasant and enjoyable evening."

  • "Josephije's offers an eclectic menu, and they do a good job preparing most dishes. My wife and I both had the french onion soup, and it was excellent. We selected the fried chicken and pork chop for entrees, and both were delicious. Although the dishes sound simple, Josephine's uses unique spices and sauces to make them interesting. My only complaint was that our server disappeared at times particularly at the end."

  • "We usually consider Josephine's to be one of our "go to" options for dining. The food is always excellent! On this occasion, however, they really missed it. The food was only average, but I think that was due to the service. On this visit the service was terrible! Our server had trouble keeping our water glasses full and took way too long to retrieve our beers from the bar. Our appetizers were late to the table and had obviously been sitting in the window long enough to cool down. And, honestly, this is consistent with our last few visits.....the service seems to be going down hill. What a shame, but the reality is that the excellent food is starting to be over-shadowed by the REALLY BAD SERVICE!"

  • "Was disappointed that the entree was not hot, only barely warm; on the other hand corking fee was only $15 which was very reasonable."

  • "went with friends who not been there previously...all enjoyed the food and the attentive but not hovering service...our favorite place in greensboro"

  • "Somewhere on Spring Garden that serves bone marrow instead of wings? Unexpected yes, but this place has it. I've enjoyed cocktails, elk, and now a hanger steak. A really surprising gem. I'm going to come back with an outragous bottle of sauterne to try the foie."

  • "This is only our 2nd visit to Josephine's ( on Valentines day ) and this is our favorite restaurant all ready. The food & wine was excellent. The PEI mussels & flounder stuffed with oyster stuffing.were outstanding. Thanks for a GREAT evening."

  • "The food and service was great. However, the music that was playing overhead was frequently interrupted with commercials. Almost like they had Sirius radio with ads playing between songs. Very strange."

  • "We went there for valentines day, and that was a very romantic and delicious moment. Food was great (the grilled salmon is awesome) and the service was fast. The place was not overcrowded so there was not too much noise. We had a great time and we will come back there."

  • "Hate to let the word totally out but this is the best food in Greensboro! There is always a creative and adventurous menu . I have Never had anything not delicious there. Mussels, oysters, NC flounder stuffed with oyster dressing, great appetizers (duck on flat bread, spinach raviolli in truffle oil), on and on and on of totally perfect food and fabulous friendly service!"

  • "Went on a very quite night so the service was exceptionally good. The food was great. I had a larger than normal piece of grilled salmon compared to other restaurants I've been to. The cushioned seats against the walls were very comfortable but the chairs were not so comfortable; made of very light weight aluminum that you could almost pick up with one finger. The chairs were also a bit noisy as they banged against the table base. The décor was very nice with a great touch in whoever picked out the lighting. I liked the lamps on the bar a lot."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner, the menu had a good variety and food was delicious. Atmosphere was relaxed (you could dress up or wear jeans, both would fit in). We would rank it as one of the best restaurants in Greensboro and we give it bonus points for a more casual/lively atmosphere (than other restaurants in town with this quality of food)."

  • "This is probably my 6th visit over the past year. Food and service have been great each time. Josephine's really is among the three or four restaurants that one might consider best in Greensboro."

  • "My husband and I had reservation last friday night We got there and a table was ready for us Our waiter made us feel right at home they had some nice specials, and an excellent wine list We each chose a wine by the glass recommended by our waiter, and felt he gave us great choices The food was presented beautifully I had a small plate, which I needed a box for it was so generous My husband had a large plate, and realized he should have made it a small plate I loved the use of local foods we had a to go dessert (chocolate pecan pie) which was good, but I could not find a pecan in it Overall it was a great dining experience and we plan to go back soon"

  • "We were there on what I thought would be a slow night but there were a number of people there when we arrived at 7PM. I did have to find on street parking as there was no parking available - the limited number of spaces were all occupied. We shared an appetizer and each ordered a meal. The portion sizes were generous and the food was excellent. If you order wine by the glass you get a really good pour. BTW if you are a martini lover they do not skimp on the gin! Again, we were there on a Monday night so I really can't give a meaningful review on noise level but I imagine on a busy night it would be a bit higher as the space is limited. But, based on this experience I will plan to return."

  • "If you check out the menu on-line, you'll see that Josephine's is presented as an upscale restaurant. The prices and the number of adjectives and adverbs associated with the menu entries certainly give that impression and that is what we were looking forward to enjoying. Our server was very good and knowledgeable about the menu. I selected the pan seared black bass and my wife chose the stuff flounder. Simply put, the bass was OK. The stuff flounder was presented very under-done and had to be sent back. This was our first trip to Josephine's and we were excited when a friend recommended it. We are still good friends but I cannot recommend Josephine's to any reader."

  • "A lovely little jewel in Lindley Park - Josephine's food is fresh, innovative and delicious! The staff is attentive and knowledgeable and make you feel special. I have never had a bad meal here - whether entrees, small plates, desserts or drinks. Great work - and always a treat!"

  • "Josephine's is a favorite. Hands down, one of the best restaurants in Greensboro. A small restaurant, not good for groups over 4. while I have had great food in the past, this was my least favorite experience. while the food was expertly created and prepared, I have decided that fall foods from NC are not my favorite. Josephine's is a farm-to-table restaurants, so they are linked to the season in which the food is prepared. and fall options include winter squash, greens, etc. most with inherently bland flavors. I look forward to returning in the spring when fresh herbs and veggies are back in season."
