This continues to be my favorite neighborhood upscale eatery! I've reviewed before and nothing changes. Food, ambiance and service couldn't be better. I continue to recommend it and have annual out of town guests who always want to dine there. Unfortunately on their most recent visit our dinner date was for a Monday----need I say more??! Of course, I'll be back!

Joseph Tambellini's is true italian dining pleasure in Pittsburgh. Its an old 3 story house that makes for a cozy dining experience. Don't be fooled by the age of the building, they offer free wifi and convenient reservation taking through the "Open Table" app. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The service is great. Most importantly, the food is amazing! You won't leave here hungry. They have a great wine selection and can make great food pairing suggestions. I highly recommend the house cab with their eggplant parmigiana. You'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't try their meatballs. Also some of the best Beans & Greens I've ever had. I could rave on and on. Make this place your next date night!

This Highland Park neighborhood gem is wonderful from it's superb owners (Joe and Missy Tambellini), fabulous menu that Joe creates, terrific service, delightful home-like atmosphere and relaxed dining experience. There is something for every palate and diet, and if it's not on the menu, just ask Joe if he can make something special for you. He will if he can.

This great local restaurant was a find. Our experience confirmed the rave reviews. Food and atmosphere were great. Service was attentive and pleasant. Especially notable was the tableside visit from Joe Tambellini, the chef owner, and his lovely wife Melissa. He even remember our phone conversation before the visit. Everything had a personal touch. We went with my grandson who just started at Pitt and we all had a delightful evening. Will be back. Put it on your list.

Excellent food; very high quality - superb presentation. Nice variety on the menu in addition to daily specials. Our waiter was attentive and friendly without being overly so. He apologized for one small error (I had requested my dressing on the side of the salad) and promptly offered to make it right. The prices seem a little high - definitely for us more of a special occasion restaurant rather than a regular night out. The noise level was quite high; we had to strain to hear each other over noisy tables around us. This was the first time we ate upstairs. We don't remember it being quite so noisy downstairs. It was a Friday night and the place was packed. Because of the noise, I would shy away if you are looking for a quiet romantic night.

Everything about this restaurant is top notch from the food, to the service, to the personal touch that's added by Joe and his wife Melissa. My wife had the flounder and I had the chicken parmesan both were prepared excellent and the portion size was very generous. The staff is excellent, everyone goes out of their way to make you feel like you are eating a fine dinner at a family member's house. My wife and I drive to Pittsburgh every year for our anniversary to stay overnight at the William Penn and to eat specifically at Tambellini's.

Out of town company thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Pittsburgh after this meal. Calamari Arrabbiata was tremendous -- right amount of spicy. Service was attentive with out being oppressive. Terrific pecan ball for dessert -- those whole pecans are best in Pittsburgh (a hint of salt with the sweetness makes them pop). IF the ice cream was homemade and few more pecans were present, it would have been beyond reproach and the best ever. There are gluten free pasta and dessert options.

Went there for our anniversary dinner, 1st time. Food was excellent. I ordered:salad, Special of the Day: New York Strip baked in Gorgonzola cheese topped with bread crumbs with side of green beans. Pecan Ball with butterscotch syrup and caramelized pecans. Bread with dipping sauce. Salad was nicely presented. Portion size just right. Good bread and dipping sauce was excellent. Steak was best I've had in a long time - pipping hot tender melted in your mouth. Beans were good but to crunchy to my liking. The pecan ball was killer! Wife ordered: salad, Seafood Michele. Crushini Fritti for desert. Loved it! 2 things I change: 1. serve the bread warm 2. put the music on earlier. (we did get there at 6pm but would have been nice atmosphere).

This restaurant not only offers incredible food, a nice variety of choices, and a welcoming atmosphere, but the opportunity to meet the friendly owners who are accessible and eager to please. We used to go to this location when it was the Chariot long ago so it was not only a great experience but a trip down memory lane. The only reason that I didn't give the food 5 stars was the "famous" fried zucchini which didn't live up to expectations. Other than that, everything was outstanding. Best Caesar salad we've had in years. Wonderful service! What few children that were there were nicely behaved - thank goodness.

My wife and I were celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary and were looking for some place different to go. We live in Highland Park and had never been to Joseph Tambellini so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. From the ambiance to the service to the cuisine, everything about the restaurant was perfect! My only reservation is that the building has approximately five steps to access the restaurant and consists of three floors. I didn't see any amenities for persons with disabilities. I did inquire if they had an elevator and was told by our server that they did not. Other than this I have nothing negative to say about this establishment. My wife and I look forward to our next opportunity to dine here.
