One is a "full blooded" Italian from Brooklyn so I was a little nervous. The menu was impressive as always and the specials spot on for our tastes. They were really impressed when Joe took time to talk about his restaurant with my guests. He even made a special fish dish for one of them who had dietary restrictions. What service! THey were even more impressed with their dinner selections! RIghtly so. THe food, service and atmosphere is always the best at Joseph Tambellini's.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat neighborhood ItalianI was in Pittsburgh for a multi day conference and wanted to get out of the downtown scene with a few friends from various parts of the USA. This great place was a short ride away and is truly a gem...great accommodating service, wonderful menu with creative and seasonal additions, nice and reasonably priced wine list, and an all around very enjoyable experience. The Tambellini name is legendary in Pittsburgh with various family members having had successful restaurants in the area...and the branch of the family that owns this one has clearly gotten it very well.

It's hard for me to justify a $114 bill before tip for anything other than a special occasion. And if I'm paying that amount, I think I should still be thinking about how good the meal was for days afterward. We are looking forward to making it 4 in a row when mother/grandmother/great grandmother turns 98. Melissa, Joe and staff went out of the way to make sure we had the right seating location on the first floor, were happy to make a reservation for 12 work on a busy Saturday night and to have everything prepared for our guest and guest of honor in an amazing manner. The food was awesome as usual. A great, great evening thanks to all the hard work of Melissa, Joe and team. Would highly recommend to anyone living in Pgh or new to Pgh. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and took time to share the extended wine list. The food was well portioned and cooked to our liking. The menu had something for everyone's taste without being too overwhelming. The melt-in-your-mouth meatballs were the best my wife and I have ever had. The service was impeccable. Chef came around to every table to say hello and thank you. I have no financial or business interest in any restaurant nor do I work at one. I simply love great food. That's what you get every time at Joseph Tambellini's. I have been there more times than I can count; by myself, as a couple, and in groups from 4 to 20. No matter what, the food and service is always wonderful. Don't take my word for it. Was there on Friday evening celebrating a friend's 50th birthday. It was her first visit, but sure won't be her last. I had the filet (butter-knife tender even when cooked to the perfect medium I had requested), and the wife had the Chilean sea bass. Both dishes were superb. We were incredibly pleased with our experience. Everyone was so welcoming and made us feel like regulars. Mr. Tambellini came over to make sure we had enough pasta to get ready for our race. Our meals were delicious from the tasty infused dipping oil to our chicken and pasta dinners. Our server was attentive and accommodating. A venturesome diner would also note the more unusual items that are available off the menu, like the cockle appetizer in a savory, creamy sauce. Our server, Ralph, was quite personable, as well as knowledgeable, and the ambience of the upstairs dining room was orderly and efficient without being stuffy. I've been looking for an outstanding (not "good", outstanding) Italian restaurant since moving to Pittsburgh 3 years ago. Have now found it. The seafood pasta was amazingly good and the Shrimp Scampi to die for. Service was a little slow, but not disturbing (they were full on Friday night), the ambiance just right and our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating.

The table setting with flowers added (using the link on the confirmation email) was perfect. Each part of the meal was just right as far as quantity, quality and timing between servings. Our server recommended Joe's home made meatballs as a appetizer, not wanting to over eat we split one just for a taste test. WOW it was fantastic. Our server recited the special list, everything sounded so tasty but we stayed the course and went with the menu items. My wife had Pork Chop and I had the Home made Ravioli, Both items were off the chart fantastic! The meal comes with a choice of soup or salad, We both picked one and shared, Loved them both. I have to say that not only have we not had a bad meal, we've never even had an "ok" meal. The food is excellent...every time. The appetizers, salads and dessert are also always fantastic. Their 24 oz delmonico is the best I've had. It's a relatively small place but it's quiet, they take their time and the service is also terrific. I highly recommend Tambellini's for anyone who wants a great meal. Food is fantastic, the service is outstanding and the ambiance is perfect. The staff really works hard to make the experience memorable. Located in an out-of-the-way neighborhood it has the rare combination of excellent menu selection, great food, superior service, and an extensive but fairly priced wine list. The Owners/Chef also pay specific attention to their guests and assures that all is good to the guests' satisfaction.
