Diner Reviews
  • "One of the best dining experiences I've ever had from Start to Finish - appetizer to dessert. The Food and Service were Awesome!"

  • "The first time we went on a week day evening. Regardless of the day we go (week day or weekend) it is the same excellent service and the food. The Sea Bass is the best kept secret - when this is offered as the special I highly recommend it. Best sea bass anywhere - never had any better."

  • "Our first time at this restaurant. Based on the reviews on here, I thought this would be a great place for my wife and I to enjoy our date night. I was not disappointed. The staff was welcoming from the time we walked in the door. We were seated upstairs with only one other couple there when we arrived. Our waiter was excellent and presented us with a list of options for dinner and gave us his recommendations. The three courses were timed just right, tasted great, and the food was excellent. I had veal for the first time and it was excellent. As we set, the place filled up and our little private dining experience as gone. Overall it was excellent. I'd prefer sitting upstairs over downstairs if possible or outside weather permitting"

  • "Joseph Tambellinis is by far the best restaurant in the city of Pittsburgh I have never had a bad meal and will continue to return and also recommend it to everyone"

  • "It's no wonder Joseph Tambellini is on the "Very Accurate" list of top pittsburgh restaurants. It's by far the best Italian in Pgh. Gotta try the meatballs, their like no other!! So once again, they are appropriately named one of Pittsburgh's top venues."

  • "Past meals here have been great and tonight was no exception: from the creamy dressing on the wedge salad to the perfectly portioned entree to the shareable desserts. The new perspective was not the menu or the foo preparation but the view. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the early evening breeze. The oversized umbrellas kept the sun away from directly interfering with the meal yet let enough light through to add to the ambiance. Getting a visit at our table by Chef and owner Joe Tambellini is an added extra - a normal part of the care given to customers at this great restaurant."

  • "The service and food were amazing. We will definitely go back!"

  • "Great place for a date night. The food was absolutely amazing. Met the owner, he was very kind... Hostesses could have been a little nicer. But it was worth the trip and we will definitely be returning."

  • "It's hard to find good Italian food in Pittsburgh as most people of PGH think the Olive Garden as a quality restaurant. I got eggplant parm as I'm on a quest to find the best eggplant parm and I must say that this was one of my top favorites. The marinara was perfect. We got the fried sesame calamari and I wasn't impressed. It was too sweet and had too much roasted sesame seeds that gave to much of a burnt flavor. the meatballs are succulent and tender. I'm sure if you like good food, you'll enjoy your meal. "

  • "Honestly, they are one of the best in the city. So attentive and the food speaks for itself. Definitely one of my top 5 dining destinations in Pittsburgh"

  • "The cuisine was the best ever, the service top notch and Joe's visiting with us table side and for pictures outside was over the top. Thanks for a great evening "

  • "Joseph always greats guests, a nice touch to know the owner is in the kitchen but has time to interact with guests. A very nice touch. "

  • "The new outdoor dining section that recently opened is awesome! Highly recommend the new outdoor area. Same hospitality as inside and same great food only now outside under the stars. Missy & Joe did it right when opening the new outdoor dining area. Great new addition to a great restaurant!"

  • "The place for excellent Italian cuisine in the Pittsburgh area. The food is superb, the service is top notch, and the atmosphere is very quaint. It is pricey, but worth every penny when you want to splurge a bit. We were there for my husband's birthday and he got lamb chops (daily special) and gnawed them to the bone. I had pasta and added meatballs. The meatballs are fabulous, too. Can't wait to go back on our next trip to Pittsburgh. "

  • "It's a bit out of the way but it's worth every minute of the journey. Great food, good menu. If you haven't been to J Tambellini's restaurant you are missing a special treat. The chief is excellent, don't overlook the nightly specials."

  • "For more than four years we've been looking for Joseph Tambellini's and we find it for our last dinner in Pittsburgh! Our group of six ordered a broad set of "classic" appetizers and main courses. All were very nicely presented and prepared. The fried calamari and fried eggplant (cut oblong - a nice twist) were crisp, but not overdone and the accompanying sauces were excellent. Everyone loved their entrees! A few came in meat sauce with a meatball which can correlate closely to overall meal quality. Don't laugh, how often have you tasted a dense, tasteless meatball with an otherwise great dish? JT sweats the basics! Very good service was a wonderful grace note to the meal. So glad we ate here! A meal to remember! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!"

  • "I have never been disappointed with a visit to Tambellini's and this visit was no different. The seafood platter was magnificent. Snap peas cooked to perfection, crisp salad and crusty bread were a perfect addition. Sharing the decadent butterscotch pound cake warmed with ice cream and butterscotch sauce was the perfect finish to the meal. Thank you Joe for that anniversary treat. "

  • "Food was fabulous, service could not have been better. If you are looking for an enjoyable experience with some of the best food you will ever taste - this is the place. Not sure how anyone could leave here with a bad experience. "

  • "The Best Italian restaurant in the City! A must dine at spot. Wine list on an iPad is a nice touch. Lots of great menu options, just an overall great spot."

  • "Soft Shell Crabs were Excellent! Pasta sauce and meatballs are by far and away the Best period. Such a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. We didn't actually sit outside in the new courtyard, but it is as classy as the interior. I'm looking forward to having dinner outside with some friends. "

  • "Our first experience at Joseph Tambellini was excellent, so we decided to have our anniversary dinner there last week, with friends. Unfortunately, even though we had a reservation, and even though we let them know that it was a special occasion, the server ignored us and it was more than twenty minutes before she decided to stop her conversation with friends and bring us water. We had to ask the hostess to get our server's attention. The food was cold by the time she brought it to us and so it was not a good experience."

  • "Tambellini's has very good food consistently. This time the service needs particular commendation. My dinner companion was very late so I had a glass of wine and some of the fried zucchini while I was waiting. We both had one of the specials and the waiter did not rush us. We even had time for dessert. I don't think I would try that on a weekend because the restaurant gets very busy."

  • "Staff was polished and refined. Food excellent, it's nice to have a classy place like this to dine. Keep up the fine work. Highly recommended. "

  • "The ambience was nice. The host/hostesses are full of pretense. I got a call on Sat afternoon confirming my 6 pm reservation and informing me that they double book tables on Saturday evening and that the table is reserved by someone else for 8 pm. Fell like I was on a shot clock eating dinner. Not much time between courses and the next plate came out I felt rushed and compelled to have the table cleared by 745. Food was fair and quite expensive. I had better in "not so fine" restaurants. Would not rush back there!"

  • " Another great Sunday dinner at Tambellini's!! A little pricier than some places, but a great value!! You get what you pay for. Excellent quality, excellent service, and overall awesome!!! I saw some previous reviewers that seemed to have "sticker shock", yes it may not be for everybody, guess thats why there is alway Olive Garden for some folks........if you want the best Italian in the city this is your place!!"

  • "Staff very friendly and helpful, the food absolutely delicious. We were stuffed, but we couldn't help ourselves. We knew we should take it home, but it was so wonderful we had to keep eating. And we did try to resist but succumbed to the pecan ball. My steak was perfect perfect perfect. I had to be rolled to the car."

  • "Food was good, not excellent for the expensive prices. Service was excellent."

  • "My wife and I made reservations for this restaurant since we were visiting family for Easter. It had been quite some time since we last ate at Tambellini's and we were truly looking forward to those famous fried zucchini appetizers. Although the zucchini tasted good, it wasn't quite what we remembered them being. (Negative) The price of the entrees were higher than we expected and I say this even after being a resident of Manhattan and dining in many great restaurants in NYC. (Positive) The Server was extremely friendly and accomodated our needs very well. Most likely our last visit. "

  • "The food is consistently delicious, something for everyone and always lots of specials to choose from in addition to the regular menu. The service and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Keep going back because overall a good experience each time. It is a real gem. "

  • "We had a small party of 3 on Saturday night. The restaurant was packed. The food & service were excellent. We started with salads, a small pasta dish, our main course and then dessert. All of us were very happy with all our selections. Chef Joseph T. and his team did a fantastic job! We will be coming back."

  • "I've been looking at Joseph Tambellini's for a few years now and finally got around to trying it. The food was outstanding, they started us with bread and dipping oil, and the oil was very flavorful as it had garlic and what looked like sun dried pesto in it. the meals included a salad or soup, and they had chicken pastina which was great, my family loved the chef's tasting salad as well. I got the Veal Marsala, and it was literally the best ive ever had. It was pounded thin, mushrooms were cooked well and the sauce was perfect. My Fiancee got the chicken romano and it was great, nice batter on the chicken and a little bit of parmesan on top. For dessert I had the mousse cake, which was the perfect end to a delicious meal."

  • "Never a bad visit. Dinner was awesome. The friendly team that takes care of you during the meal is 1st class. Adam is shows dedication and attention to his customers needs. Missy and Joe don't a beat and an opportunity to thank the customers for stopping in for the visit. They will do what ever possible to make your visit a memorable one - they will prepare the meal any way you want it so as to meet your desires. Highly recommend a visit."

  • "Joseph Tambellini's is a favorite when I want to impress someone. The service is very good and usually not intrusive. This is not an inexpensive place to eat but I never have had anything that was not perfectly cooked and very delicious. Tambellini's is my favorite Italian restaurant in the city."
