Diner Reviews
  • "I've been looking at Joseph Tambellini's for a few years now and finally got around to trying it. The food was outstanding, they started us with bread and dipping oil, and the oil was very flavorful as it had garlic and what looked like sun dried pesto in it. the meals included a salad or soup, and they had chicken pastina which was great, my family loved the chef's tasting salad as well. I got the Veal Marsala, and it was literally the best ive ever had. It was pounded thin, mushrooms were cooked well and the sauce was perfect. My Fiancee got the chicken romano and it was great, nice batter on the chicken and a little bit of parmesan on top. For dessert I had the mousse cake, which was the perfect end to a delicious meal."

  • "Well prepared fairly traditional Italian style. Not too loud. Good selection of drinks. Very overpriced for what it is"

  • "Never a bad visit. Dinner was awesome. The friendly team that takes care of you during the meal is 1st class. Adam is shows dedication and attention to his customers needs. Missy and Joe don't a beat and an opportunity to thank the customers for stopping in for the visit. They will do what ever possible to make your visit a memorable one - they will prepare the meal any way you want it so as to meet your desires. Highly recommend a visit."

  • "Joseph Tambellini's is a favorite when I want to impress someone. The service is very good and usually not intrusive. This is not an inexpensive place to eat but I never have had anything that was not perfectly cooked and very delicious. Tambellini's is my favorite Italian restaurant in the city."

  • "We were very excitied to try Joseph's after all of the fabulous reviews and word of mouth comments. Unfortunately, our experience fell short. The service was excellent. Everyone was extremely friendly from start until finish and very accommodating. The food came out at the perfect pace. It was the food that fell short for us. The calamari as well as the greens (in the greens/beans appetizer) were chewy. The special salad was amazing. In the scallop entree, the scallops were overcooked. We were too full for dessert, but they looked very good."

  • "Never heard of this place since I don't live near Highland Park - but it was worth the drive. All courses were amazing and the ambience was great."

  • "We took out of town guests from New York. All of us enjoyed our food without question. Our steaks and lamb were perfectly prepared and delicious. The menu was sufficiently diverse and creative to keep everyone happy. Portions were ample. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. This is a popular restaurant that seats every two hours for parties of four, so there isn't an opportunity to linger long over coffee afterward, but if you are OK with that timeframe, it's a great atmosphere for good food and conversation."

  • "The service was excellent. The food was good and as described, but I'm not compelled to go back for more. The Snapper needed something with more oomph than the cream sauce. For all the fancy wording and glowing descriptions the pound cake dessert was just that, pound cake, with ice cream and something non-nondescript drizzled on it. Perhaps i just ordered the wrong thing."

  • "We enjoyed another excellent dinner while celebrating another special occasion. We especially enjoyed talking to the owner regarding food, Italy and more. Our young lady server was excellent and I apologize for not getting her name."

  • "The food is excellent! It is expensive, but worth it. The only negative is that it can be a little loud if the bar is busy. Given the quality and price of the food, we expected a more refined and quieter ambiance."

  • "It was a torture to get to, lots of road detours, and parking not so great... but when we did arrive, we enojoyed a friendly welcome and a fine dinner cuisine. Scrumoptous meatballs and well presented."

  • "Joseph Tambellini's has become one of my top three restaurants for special occasions. While the menu is firmly grounded in traditional Italian fare, it's always tweaked into a high-quality version through the use of fresh ingredients, lovingly prepared and presented. Each server we have had has always had a sense of enthusiasm about the food: Adam was no exception. This time the enthusiasm extended into a congratulatory spirit for the 18th anniversary that my partner and I were celebrating. Excellent food with a good vibe -- a perfect recipe for a special occasion."

  • "This was the first trip to Tambellini's and for a special occasion. Other than having some parking difficulty, the night was wonderful. The food and service couldn't have been better. It's nice being in a restaurant that actually gives you time to enjoy the delicious food that's in front of you without having the next course shoved at you. Eventually the whole table is jammed full with plates and you can't seem to eat fast enough. We were there slightly over two and a half hours and never felt rushed by our waiter. It was a very enjoyable, relaxing and quality evening."

  • "We have visited many times now. This was the second special occasion and once again the food was outstanding. • "Attentive service with a smile, tambellini's provides a cozy, romantic ambience with great portions of high quality food. Went for a highly enjoyable Valentine's dinner. Chicken Pastina soup was a little salty for my taste but the meatball and calamari apps were top notch, as were the side salad, chicken Marsala and caprese. Would gladly recommend"

  • "The food was outstanding,. The service was outstanding. (Wendy was our waitress) We were treated nice from the moment we walked in the door. The place was busy but you could still talk and not have to shout to be heard. The chef / owner actually came out and talked with us for a while and I thought that was a nice touch. I'd rate this as a very good place to eat and I would also say bring your wallet it is expensive but that is not complaining, if I would tell a friend to go there I would have to mention that as it is expensive. Would I go back. Of course, this was not our first time there., and we will be back."

  • "we are transplanted pittsburghers who live in south florida fo the last 15 years but still have many friends and family in "the Burgh". We come back to visit a couple times per year and always make a stop at Joseph Tambellinnis a least once for dinner. The food is EXCELLENT, the service is great and everyone there cannot be friendlier to us. Favorite spot for dinner in Pittsburgh !"

  • "The host seated my party next to a window. It was almost unbearably cold. We had to wear our jackets and scarfs to finish the meal. Our chairs were also right next to the table next to us so we could both hear each other's conversations the entire time. Also to note, the decor was very old; the chairs specifically were very unstable."

  • "Dinner at Tambellini's was a treat on Friday night. The food and the service were both perfect. The host, service staff and kitchen were on their A game. We had the Grouper Romano and the Veal Romano served hot at the table with a pasta or green bean side. There were nothing but praises for all the dishes and we are a picky foursome. We will back for more and recommend it to everyone who wants romantic dinner with great food."

  • "The restaurant is attractive and like the charming neighborhood feel of Bryant St. White linen tablecloths, and tasteful decor. It reminded me of good restaurants I've been to in Italy. We were greeted with a friendly smile and a coat check. The food is outstanding and service was very good. The only negative is the tables are close together. With the small space and a full house I was repeatedly bumped by the waiter serving the table next to ours."

  • "The atmosphere of a cold rainy Pittsburgh night was left at the door when we entered Joseph Tambellini for a recent Sunday dinner. From the warm greeting by the maitre d' to the gracious&friendly welcome by our server we knew we were in for another great evening at Tambellini restaurant. As the evening progressed Joe took a break from the kitchen&greeted each table of diners in the full restaurant with a friendly comment, checking on the satisfaction with the meal,as well as telling his guests that if there was something that they wanted but not on the menu, to let him know. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The food was well prepared, attractively plated,&elegantly presented.A restaurant that should be on everyone's 'go to' list."
